Geography and Outdoor Adventure or OUtdor Adventure and Geography

Katy
29-01-2006, 15:50
that sounds good. Im thinking about doing Geography, but i think i really messed up my AS level. Either Geography, or Law. I waiting to see how my AS go and then decide what i need to concentrate on.

Have you any idea on what you want to go onto do. I have no idea which doesnt help. Did you know at this stage last year or am i panicking for nothing.

Cornishbabe
29-01-2006, 15:52

Good luck to you all - I hope that you get your first choices. In Scotland Uni starts in October. It is a great time in your life, wonderful opportunities to try different things and meet new people - and to study too, if you have time,lol.

if youve already got an offer from the uni then you wont need an interview, if you havent already got an offer then you might need to attend one.
well it was for performing arts and the audition workshop was really weird, we had to do this thing were one person had to be walking, one person had to be hopping, one person had to be running etc then when the person walking stopped someone else had to start walking but only one person could be doing each of the things, im not really sure what it had to do with performing arts! then the interview was with 4 other people and the interviewer just asked us why we wanted to do the course, what we wanted to achieve from it, then she asked us about shows we had been to see recently

Congratulations on your offers Layne.

I have had 4 conditional offers, just waiting on my last one. I think I am going to put down Bangor or Aberystwyth as my firm choice (most likely Bangor) as it looks amazing there.. going to an English taster day to both places in February/March time..

Well done on yours too :)

Ive got a visit day at Cardiff next week, then one in Liverpool next year (09) and just waiting to see if i get anything through for Nottingham Trent or Loughborough :D Nottingham Trent will probably be my insurance because it wants lower grades, but then ive just got to pick a firm choice - Cardiff i think, maybe L'poo ... or loughborough - Ooh who knows!

Just got a conditional from Hertfordshire :D 240 points for the Biological science with a year in continental Europe. According to the tarriff table its three C's.

Uwe wants 300. Birmingham said I couldn't do Europe because I didn't do a language so I doubt I'll end up there.

Thats the same as Herts wants for me. I think that's CCC. Ucas have a tarriff thing you can look at.

I'm on BBC at the moment.

I'm going to visit Bristol and Herts again because I can't decide between the two. UWE's great but its so far from the city...Other Bristol uni didn't want my applied science. :o I want to look at the other campus at Herts as well.

I know that
A= 120
B= 100
C= 80
D=60
E= 40

So I think that must mean Lincoln want CCC, I think

Im doing four subjects still and last year I got BBBC
But im hoping to get a few of them up this year

I got a D for philosophy last year :p I dropped that though an couldn't face retaking theory of knowledge. :lol:

Hopefully I'll do better this year with science. Last year most of our coursework was in Physics in Chemistry. We don't have much for Chemistry this year or Physics mostly in Biology which is good.

my lowest offer was 160, it was from somewhere in twickenham though. i was going to apply to christchurch but it was a new course and they werent sure whether the facilities were going to be built on time, i still dont think theyve all been built 3 years later lol! ive always found it quite funny how points for similar courses can differ so much, for kent i needed 320 points

some unis take longer than others. when i applied some took a month while others only took a week. dont worry if you havent heard yet as they tell you either way so it could still be good news :) especially as the deadline for applications has only just passed and some unis wait til all the applications are in before they decide

Shame I hate synoptic papers

Abigail
25-01-2009, 00:22
My synoptic wasn't too bad. For the extended essay, I went through all my units and brain stormed all the key areas, like the kidney, insulin, ATP synthesis, transport of water in a plant etc. Think I ended up with about 15 sheets of paper in the end but it was worth it when the extended essay was one of the areas that I'd brain stormed.

Are you on Edexcel?

di marco

I have a question by the way about uni offers, when you hear from the all, when do you have to choose by?

The deadlines differ as to when you got your last reply. If you get all your replies by March, you have to choose your firm and insurance by 31st March. If you don't, your offers will be delined by default.

There are different deadlines for Route A and B courses and international applicants. It explains here (http://www.ucas.ac.uk/advisers/dates) about the deadlines.

Right so Im looking at the end of March, well I think the results come out 12th march so that gives me some thinking time

Woo got offer at Cardiff :D.
But I don't get the conditions..
I'm sure this one is a HND course... which the requirements were pass pass pass from my diploma... but it says this..

This offer is subject to you obtaining

BTEC 18-unit Diploma

The Core is considered as a 2nd A level or equivalent for a HND programme and a 3rd A level or
equivalent for a degree programme eg typical offer 240 points, Core counted as 80 points towards
offer (dependant on programme).
Does that mean I need 240 points? :S I don't get it lol..

Email the university admissions and ask. It says a typical offer, not the offer that they have given you.

For a HND you shouldn't need 240.

Where does Sheffield feature in your choices? Would it be worth going for an interview if you're not going to choose the university anyway?

Abbie
30-01-2009, 19:48
Thats what Im thinking, cos to be honest I out sheffield as one of my last choices on ucas cos I wasnt sure mainly at the time they wanted ABB and I had liked it when I went but I dunno i just seem to prefer others and Ive pretty much chosen my final 2
But I dunno whether to go cos if I tell my tutor he might say you might as well go for experience and see what happens, you know what I mean?

And at the the same time I honestly thought my application would be unsuccessful straight away from them

Im in a muddle :(

DaVeyWaVey

It was quite informal really. Do you know if your interview will be formal or informal?

The lecturer that interviewed me just went through the course content in more depth, what I should expect from the course etc and asked what my interests were, what books I've read, my favourite authors etc. She also went through my personal statement and asked a few questions on that.

The important thing is to just be yourself. Is Sheffield one of your top choices?

Abigail
30-01-2009, 19:52
I got an interview for Canterbury. It was the last offer I received and I had already made my decision about my other offers so I didn't go.

Do what you think is best. If you don't think the interview is worth it and you've already made your mind up, then don't go.

Abbie
30-01-2009, 19:56
It says informal on the webiste now that Ive checked it out and on my email when I followed the link it seems this interview it like part of some open day, well departmental open day too

I dunno, because the thought of an interview makes me feel sick and I get so nervous and Ive really had to have one before so maybe I should go for pratice?
But at the same time its just gonna be a waste of money to go......I really dont know what to do

DaVeyWaVey
30-01-2009, 20:02
You wouldn't have anything to lose if you did go and it went good or badly. You'll still have all 4 of your other offers. It's up to you at the end of the day.

If it's informal, there really isn't much to worry about. They'll probably be talking to you quite a lot and will probably just ask you what your interests are and whether you have any questions on the uni or the course.. well, that's judging from my experience of an "informal interview"

I dunno I need time to think, my mum was like: do you really want to go if youve made up your mind?

Anyway this morning Aberystwyth sent me loads more information and saying how Ive been accepted. It does look good there but its just way too small of an area for me. I mean I would have gone if I didnt get accepted into others and liked it, but I prefer the bigger areas

You might as well go along, so at least you give it a chance. I barely gave Portsmouth a second thought, and i happened to come to a departmental open day, and fell in love with the place. You applied there for a reason, even if you think you've made up your mind already, you might as well give it a chance.

I know but at the same time Ive already been to an open day their and Ive seen the area as well as I went into town and I only put it on my application to see what would happen but as Ive been looking up my course and stuff I think I would better in my other 2 choices which I love
The only reason Im not sure to go id for this interview but then I keep going back to the fact that I think even though it might be a good experience its gonna be a waste of time
Sheffield is basically the offer Ive been awaiting to here from so I can start accepting the ones I want and declining the others

i agree, i only went to the canterbury open day cos my mum wouldnt take me to the other one i wanted to go to which was on the same day! but i liked the uni so put it down even though i liked other courses better, but after going to the interviews and stuff i decided to put canterbury as my first choice. if youd asked me when i first started applying i wouldnt even have considered canterbury! have you decided what youre going to do yet?

04-02-2009, 18:48
Thanks for all of your advice guys

The thing is Ive already been to an open day there and yeah I liked it so I applied cos I wanted to put 5 to be safe but to me an interview isnt going to make a difference
I already got offers from my fav 2 and I have the backup of another 2 If I change my mind
Im only gonna apply to one that wants the B in biology which is gonna be exeter (not sheffield) the rest want C's which is good cos thats what Im on at the moment and need a safe insurance choice
I just need to go on the website and say Im not going

I know there are so mnay reasons why I should go but after thinking about everything like I just have I just dont see any sense in me actually going

And Im sorry for for being so back adn forth about this, its just this is the last decision before actually accepting and declining some and well its a bit daunting and makes me nervous
At the end of the day its not like I havent been there cos I already have this would just be a second visit for an interview so it wont make a difference to me

Hope this all makes sense
