Pete has revealed that his current gay relationship is his first.
The singer, who was married for more than 20 years, had previously had only fleeting encounters with men.
"I'm in my first gay relationship at 46 years old," he declared this afternoon during a discussion about self-criticism.
"So before you met Michael (Pete's boyfriend) did you have any feelings towards men before that?" enquired a curious Chantelle.
"I had two kind of non-sexual relationships," Pete answered, "one when I was about seventeen then one a couple of years later. But it just wasn't working, it was ridiculous."
Of his wife, whom he is still close to, he added: "I still love her very much - she just found my character and energy very overwhelming... there was no room for her to express herself. I think she came out of it after 20-odd years not really knowing who she was."
