i had this today

Hello!

We'd like you to be among the first to try a new beta version of Messenger.

If you use MSN® Messenger now, we think you're really going to enjoy Windows Live™ Messenger. It's as fun and reliable as the Messenger you already know, and you won't lose your contact list or any other personal information when you try this new version.

Some of the new stuff it will let you do:

Use Windows Live™ call to sign-up for MCI Web Calling to get incredibly low rates on calls to phones across the country or around the world
Windows Live™ Messenger is more customisable than ever - choose your colours and more
Drop documents into special folders that you and your contact can access even when one of you is off-line

Join Now (javascript:ol()http://msninviteprod.112.207.net/b/ss/msninviteprod/1/EMAIL?pageName=AdminInvite:0eccd94b-eb48-497c-8e60-c6313f7ebb73

Please keep in mind that since this is a beta, some features are still in progress. And that we need your feedback if there's anything that doesn't seem to working right, or that you would like to see done differently.

And in case you were wondering about the new name, Windows Live™ Messenger is part of a new family of services from Microsoft® that includes Windows Live™ Mail (now a simpler, safer, faster mail), and Live.com (a new personalised homepage experience), to name just a couple.

If you have any trouble while signing up for the beta or if you would like to provide any other feedback please go to http://support.live.com (javascript:ol('http://support.live.com/');)

Thanks, and we hope to hear from you soon.

Be carefull downloading this, I searched for MSN messenger 8.0 and about 20 different website came up explaining that most of the sites where you download them from is a virus.

"There is no MSN Messenger 8 yet. Not in public beta anyway. However, there's a new virus going around pretending to be "MSN Messenger 8 Working BETA," reports the F-Secure blog."

"There's two ways to catch it. First, by downloading it from a fake site where it has been supposedly "'leaked':If you download and run BETA8WEBINSTALL.EXE from that site, you won't get a new chat client. Instead, your existing MSN Messenger will start to send download links to everyone in your contact list. It also connects your machine to a botnet server. The download link always contains the recipients' email address."

Malware authors have produced a virus which poses as a test version the latest, as yet unreleased, version of MSN Messenger. The Virkel-F masquerades as "MSN Messenger 8 Working BETA" and is available from a bogus site as a supposedly leaked early version of the software.

Windows users who download and run the malware (given the name BETA8WEBINSTALL.EXE by hackers) will fail to get the promised chat client. Instead their existing MSN Messenger client will start to send download links to everyone in their contact lists in a bid to encourage others to become infected. Infected machines will also become clients in a botnet network of compromised PCs.

The social engineering trick uses interest in test version of Windows Live Messenger 8 – access to which is being auctioned on eBay - to hook victims. Anti-virus firm F-Secure has more on the Virkel-F threat here. ®

Just thought I'd post this, don't know if it helps anyone...

You know when you've uninstalled 8.0, where are you trying to get 7.5 from? get it from the msn website theres a link somewhere on the homepage...it should work because that happened to me a few times when I tried get msn 7.0 when that was first released, but it worked fine if you get it from the proper website.

Hi just to let everyone know about live messenger.
1 you can transfer all your contacts over.
2. There is no viuses on it I have used it from the beginning.
3. only get it from the msn site or microsoft themselves as all the other sites adverting it are cloning it.

If anyone wants to know anything else about it then post back on here.

Hi if any of you get trouble with it I will try and help you but read my other post first so you know where to get it from as there are some rouge sites around that have it but then it makes your computer crash.
I have been using it for 9 mths and have had no trouble.
