Mac heads the New York Crime Lab. An ex-Marine from Chicago, Mac moved to New York at the end of his military career, earning a place in New York City Police Department. After ascending his way through the ranks, he found himself a home in the Crime Lab. Mac's wife was lost at the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Det Don Flack knows the streets of New York having descended from a long line of police officers - he never questioned his future. Working closely with Mac Taylor and his unit, Flack provides the link between the old school that is the New York Police Department and the all new generation of investigators that are the CSI.

Danny Messer brings his Staten Island roots to the crime lab. Growing up in a family under surveillance, Danny formulated his own set of hybrid ethics blending the world of lawbreakers into the world of lawmakers. Mac personally selected Danny for his team, which Danny attempts to live up to every day.

Dr Sheldon Hawkes is the Chief Medical Examiner. He was raised in Harlem and by age 24, was a licenced surgeon. After 2 yrs, Sheldon left trying to save the living and found safety in the morgue.
Other characters include Aiden Burn and a new face to appear this series is Lindsay Munroe
