Two former EastEnders stars are joining hit TV show Doctor Who.

Mona Hammond, who played Blossom Jackson, and Raji James, who was Ash Ferreira, feature in the new BBC1 series.

They will appear in the final two episodes, Army of Ghosts and Doomsday.

Veteran actress Mona played grandmother Blossom in the TV soap until 1997, when she quit because of exhaustion.

Raji was a member of the Ferreira family axed last year after proving unpopular with viewers.

Producer Phil Collinson said: "It's a great pleasure to welcome an actor as prestigious and experienced as Mona. Raji's scenes are certainly dramatic and he's right at the heart of the adventure."

New Time Lord David Tennant will star in this spring's 13-episode series, with regular Billie Piper, after his successful debut in the Christmas special.

Other arrivals are Only Fools and Horses actor Roger Lloyd Pack and TV spiritualist Derek Acorah

I hope Doctor who producers are prepared to have viewing ratings going down the pan. Raji James can't act.
