I was just wondering, does anybody know who emmerdale's longest serving character is? :hmm:

thought so cause it has been some years since alan was estate manager at home farm and don't forget he has since been landlord of the woolpack and owned the b&b

Yeah i think it is jack .. because the 1st ever episode was emmerdale farm and it started in the kitchen of jacks house .. If i remember correctly

I havent watched since it went from emmerdale farm so that is some years now but jack was in the early episodes,with annie and seth.Alan come much later on in the series.

Got this of Emmerdale.org

1 Stan Richards, who plays Seth Armstrong, made
his first Emmerdale appearence in 1978.

2 Clive Hornby, who took over the role of Jack Sugden
from Andrew Burt, joined in 1980.

3 Richard Thorp, alias Alan Turner, first appeared as
Home Farm Manager in 1982.

Yes it is definitely Jack. The Sugdens were the first to appear in the dales. Jack used to be a writer then he came back to the Dales and ended up staying after a few hiccups!
