ASSAULT AND BATTERINGS
Stacey goes wild on a spree of drink, drugs and violence and falsely accuses new boy Bradley of indecent assault

With a Slater girl’s night out often ending in a court room, prison cell, hospital ward, or all three, at least Racy Stacey is upholding a great family tradition.

Getting the keys to Johnny Allen’s empty house sets the scene for the terrible teenager to go seriously out of control.

Throw in a showdown with Juley and the capacity to down vodka like a Russian soldier, and you discover that, in the words of Shameless’s Frank Gallagher, Stacey ‘really knows how to throw a party’.

It lasts two nights and results in the villain’s home being trashed, a succession of fights, Stacey’s drink spiked, a false accusation of indecent assault, and two young lads thrown in jail. Just a typical week in Walford, then…

And it’s one that Pat’s great nephew Deano, and newcomer Bradley Branning – Jim’s 18-year-old grandson – will probably never forget.

The mayhem starts on Monday. While most of the other Square residents – and viewers – will celebrate Johnny’s house being sold and him taking flight to Acapulco with drippy Ruby, Stacey takes it as a personal affront.

So she decides to hold a party at his gaff for ‘just a few mates’. But when Juley gets jiggy with Dawn, Stacey goes off on a vase-smashing spree.

‘You couldn’t wait to get yer ’ands on that old tart,’ she scowls. ‘He was being paid to sleep with Ruby. Maybe if someone slipped ’im a bit of cash, ’e’d ’ave a go with you.’

But the most alarming incidents come on Tuesday.

Stacey drags the two lads to Scarlet’s, has her voddie secretly laced with drugs by Deano, starts a scrap with Amy – and then passes out.

With ginger-top Bradley looking innocent enough to have been waylaid on his way to Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry with Harry Potter, he tries to help.

But after lifting Stacey onto a bench and trying to revive her, she comes round, accuses him of indecent assault – and punches him.

‘It was ’orrible,’ Stacey tearfully reveals. ‘I don’t know what ’appened.’

Well, you made a prat of yourself, mate…

Excellent though Lacey Turner can be as Stacey, the episodes are dull and contrived and, at times, ludicrous. A ripped blouse and torn tights are the only evidence against the hapless Bradley – as Dot quickly proves with some inept Miss Marple-style sleuthing.

A guilty Deano eventually admits he drugged Stacey, gets a thump from her for his trouble, then he’s locked up – and Bradley walks free.

‘I could do you for maliciously administering a noxious substance,’ a cop warns Deano, before releasing him with only a caution.

And with episodes like these, we could bust Enders for impersonating a soap…
