Coronation Street got the biggest audience for a TV show in 2005, narrowly beating EastEnders.

A list in Broadcast magazine showed the top rating episode for Corrie was watched by 14.35m viewers, compared to 14.34m for EastEnders.

The Vicar of Dibley's New Year's Day special was the third most watched programme of 2005.

An episode of Emmerdale was the fourth most popular show, followed by Comic Relief's Red Nose night.

Doctor Who was the sixth most popular programme, as old and new fans watched Christopher Eccleston play the Timelord.

Reality shows were the next favourite, as I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing were in seventh and eighth places respectively.
