Barrymore is now the shock favourite to win Celebrity Big Brother.
Before his entrance last night, bookmakers reported they had not taken a single bet on the fallen TV presenter.
But his ecstatic reception from the crowd has changed his fortunes and his odds are at 3/1.
Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: "The public reaction proved that Barrymore`s star is still shining.
"We feared he might be damaged goods but the phones started ringing as soon as the show was over.
"The punters have started to make their move for the troubled funnyman."
Preston and Maggot are at 4/1, followed by George Galloway at 10/1.
Barrymore`s appearance on the show marks his TV comeback four years after partygoer Stuart Lubbock was found dead in the star`s pool.
Last night, he made his entrance into the Big Brother house, falling to his knees as the crowd cheered and chanted his name.
He wiped away tears and told them: "I`m not worthy."
But Mr Lubbock`s father Terry branded him "pathetic".
"It was pathetic to see him playing to the crowd the way he did," he told the Daily Mirror.
"It was a desperate attempt to revive his non-existent career. But I hope people remember why it hit the skids."
However, it seems that the public have already made their minds up.

Yeah it does seem so!! He's all over the place.. what's he famous for? I know everyone loves him and stuff but Im the one who stands out of the crowd and dosen't know half the time lol... Don't kill me or laugh at me!!..

aww bless him though i felt for micheal barrymore when he was crying. awww i hope he does win he seems the only normal one in there. my mum said she didnt no who most of them where. she knew who micheal was obviously and you must have been living on andother planet if we dont know who jodie marsh is and pete and the ginger woman but any of the others she had never heard of and i wasnt far behind her infact inew maggot and the rest i stil ldont have a dicky bird on! lol

ive know barrymore a few years he is an ok guy people should move on and let him live his life.
Barymore, rula , and pete burns were visiters to a well known club that i was the door woman of for 20 years they are nice people and a good laugh, so sit back and watch the fun.
i have never really liked barrymore to be honest...........but thinking about i will see how he unfolds.........you never know really!!!

Barrymore use to make me laugh with his show Kid's say the funniest things, I think it's about time the press got of his back. I would like to see him go far but I'm not sure if I want him to win.

Well thats fine if you believe that but to say you wishes he drowns and dies is such an immature thing to say! your only believing what the papers have said! You dont know what he has gone through anymore than i do, but to wish death upon anyone is just sick! to be perfectly honest

it was a party...barrymoore was noit the only person there...if you had a party alan and had 100s of guests and in the morning someone was lying dead in your pool, with those injuries, it wouldnt mean you did it! anyone could have done it....just becuase barrymoore is homosexual dosent mean to say he was responsible for the anal injuries inflcited on the young man.
barrymoore left the country, not becuase of a guilty conciencse, but because the media had whupped up a story to get the readers, an untrue story as most always is the case, they ruined this mans life!
what i personally think happened: everyone was drunk, barrymoore went to bed, this man maybe not willining got raped by someone and then being drunk fell into the pool

Surely you understand that the media twist the facts, and bedn the truth. Even if he did, do you really think that they would print it in the papers? Would it be on the news? Asnwer: no. Your just listening to pathetic tabloid papers, that suck you into beleiving that everybody who was in a 10 miles radius of a death, is guilty. The tabloids would are heartless, and would ruin lives to get a good story,a nd get readers- and your being gullible. Wishing death on someone is sick to be honest, and as Charlie said, its frankly extremely immature. If i were you, i'd grow up and make your own opinions instead of listening to the bloody press.

They never had any DNA evidence on Micheal,given the offence there would have been DNA evidence,of the person that did this, he would have been charged.he is still inocent. So I think we should move on and let him live his life.

I think you are in a minority here... Barrymore has not yet been proven guilty, he is obviously upset about what happen, the guy get emotional about the mere mention of that incident... I think it is wrong to label the guy as murder/rapist, he is gay, don't mean he inflicted the damage on the guy found in his pool
What annoyed me most about watching BB is that guy Maggot, obviously thinks like you alan, in the dairy room saying Barrymore was looking at him. Michael Barrymore is funny and entertaining and I hope he wins...

i think barrymoore is fab!
he hasnt done anything wrong and should be left alone to live his life the way he wants to!
i really do hope he can renew his career after the show is done!

Ok folks it would appear that I was wrong. The dead mans father has accepted Barrymore's side of the story and so should I. So as promised I am admitting I was wrong. Strange though that this story was released in the SUN one of the tabloids most vehement in their condemnation of the whole sad affair.
