Det. Peter Baker returns to Summer Bay after having left to live in the city a year ago. His relationship with his partner Clare has broken up and he is single again.
Peter is the brother of Dan Baker and when he decided he wanted to become a policeman, was regarded as the black sheep of his family. His parents had wanted Peter to work on the land as they had, and were unreasonably hard on him, disowning him for several years. They felt that Peter had rejected them and their way of life to go to the city. However, Dan has kept in touch with his brother over the years.
Peter was posted to Summer Bay and was involved in the search for 'The Stalker'. He was attacked and seriously injured, and lay in a coma in hospital for three months. His long-lost brother Dan came to Summer Bay to visit him. Dan meets Leah, a friend of Peter’s who visits him in hospital. A friendship develops between Dan and Leah, and they fall in love.
Dan later discovers that Peter, while in America, had been seeing Dan’s ex-wife Amanda. When Dan discovered this, he was devastated that his brother had been so disloyal, even though Amanda was his ex-wife. He later realized it was the manipulative Amanda at fault and he forgave his brother.
Leah and Dan marry, although Peter is still in love with Leah. When he returns to Summer Bay he discovers that Leah’s marriage to Dan has broken up due to Dan’s compulsive gambling habit. Dan has moved out of their home, but he generously suggests that Peter stay there.
Although Leah is expecting a baby, Peter becomes involved with Leah again and things become very awkward for Peter and Leah as Dan is unaware of this and tries to reconcile with Leah. Where will this triangle end?
Peter also becomes obsessed about a particular case he is working on and acts very strangely. He is stalking someone, but why?
