View Full Version : Christmas Invasion- What did you think?
What did you think of the Christmas Invasion?
I thought, all in all, it wasn't bad. It was an ok episode to introduce David Tennant. The story left a lot to be desired, it was a bit tacky at the beginning, with those trees and santas, but towards the middle/end, it picked up and was good.
The new series bits that they showed looked great, especially that Cat Woman, and the Cyber Men.
i really enjoyed it, tennant was very amusing as the doctor, but im not sure if he'll be able to play a serious role in the new series, he had some funny lines tough :D
and that prime minster always intrdoucing herself as tough nonone knew who she was!
Shes funny! "Harriot Jones, Prime Minister"
That bit with his hand was a bit.....wierd. I found it funny though.
good ol' cuppa tea, eh?!
i do not like mickey! what is his purpose? she keeps rejecting you for a doctor and a phone box so why are you still sniffing around!
come on rose you know you want to get with the doctor! so why keep hugging mickey all the time!
God, he's so annoying. Her mum is funny though- "i'm gonna be killed by a christmas tree!"

ive justed realised if rose ever leaves then we wont see jackie or mcikey again, and maybe not london... as we'd have to see the fmaily and home of the new assistant...weird thought
I loved the way they introduced Torchwood as well. Very well done.

has this been in it before? does this exist in real life? i was confussed as the way it was referred to its as tough we were meant to know what they were on about?
Its the introduction to the spin off series i think. With Captin Jack, you know? Its referred to like that, so that its not all explained, but it gives a link to the spin off...
Favourite quotes from programme:
"I DOOOONNNT KNOOOOOW" (To the sycorax leader)
"No wait, thats from the Lion King"
"Am i ginger? Please tell me i'm not ginger"
"Is this an Apple? Why have i got an apple in my dressing gown?"
"I'm gonna be killed by a Christmas Tree!"
"and you know what? This hand is a fighting hand!"
"Saving the world in a dressing gown. Very Arthur Dent."

I liked it aswell when he went:
"Blood control, haven't seen that for years!"
"You know what i want to do when I see a big, threatening button? I want to do this... (pushes button)."
Mum: "What do you you need? (rants off long list of items)
Doctor: (after a lot of trying) I need you to shut up!
I loved that episode. The start was a bit boring, it only got really good when the doctor woke up. I think David Tennant will be very good as the doctor. He will make it more comical. Loved the outfit. I akm really loooking forward to this series. Lots of good guest stars including: Anthony Head, Tracey-Ann Oberman and Trigg from only Fools & Horses (can't think of his real name).
Overall I have to say it was a very good episode and I think I am really going to enjoy David tennant as the new doctor. I didn't think I'd like him but I do.

Embarressingly, i just watched it again!
It was even better second time round. The beginning was definetly really bad, but the ending, from when the Doctor woke up, was fab. I'm really looking forward to the new series.
I have an awful confession - I missed the first 1/2 hour!!!! Caught it from 7.30 though and I was in stitches from when David Tennant emerged from the Tardis in his pjs to confront them - thought what I saw overall was great and looking forward to the new series for sure - loved the bit at the end - 6 little words and sure enough, everyones confidence in her started to wane - brilliant stuff though (2nd half anyway - can't comment on first)
Roll on the Spring and the Cybermen!!! Oh, its Roger Lloyd Pack (Trigger). Apparently he was really worried though, as he has broken his leg and thought he would lose out on his role, but they are amending the script so he can still be in it!! Fab!
Anthony Head looked great in the snippet too - oooo so excited!! :cheer:
Oh i thought it were fab!!!!
I only watched the last eppi of the last series and got hooked *been watching repeats!!* so i thought i'd tune in from the start this time!
I love david tenant!I think he is fab!
And i thought he were great yesterday!
Can't wait till it starts properly!!!
I feel some Doctor who fanart coming on!! hehe
Loved the ginger comment
Am I the only one that thought it was crap? The doctor was missing for 40 mins, and then it was all cheerio, old blood trick, blah blah blah like the audience was the same as teletubbies.
David Tennant will make an excellent Doctor - just no crap scripts please
Am I the only one that thought it was crap? The doctor was missing for 40 mins,
I do agree with you there, him not being in it for like over that long, did make it not as good
But i still loved it! x

Abi, don't be embarrased I watched it again. My mum missed it and wanted to watch it so I watched it again. I have to agree with NB, layne and Abi the first 40 minutes were very boring, except for the little bits where the doctor was awake. Doctor who is boring if the doctor isn't actually in it. Does anyone know when it returns. I know it's in the spring but any idea when?

Before i watched it, with all the rumours flying around, i thought that Rose carrying the show would be interesting to watch. But it didn't work at all. Doctor Who is all about the Doctor (duh), so with him not being in it, just made it incredibly boring to watch. When he "woke up" it became a lot better. I've been watching some of the repeats of series one on bbc3, and when you compare DT to CE, i think DT is a lot more entertaining, and has the most potential, and will make it more entertaining.
As for what you said about no crap scripts, NB, well i agree in a way. The story itself was weak, the only things that held it together was the humour. If the humour wasn't there, then the whole thing would be **** tbh. Lets not forget that this was a Christmas Special. It couldn't be hard going. The story had to the basic. And it had to have a LOT of humour. It was shown on Christmas day!! How many people would seriously want to watch a complicated, tense story on Christmas day. Personally, i think that this story kind of had to have a crap script, so that they got their audience. I reckon this will stop in Series 2, as Davis is a bloddy brilliant writer.
i thought it was really good. I loved the humourous comments from the doctor such as
"from the day we arrive on the planet....oh sorry thats the lion king"
i thought it was perfect for a christmas special, and i didnt think the script was that bad. I have to agree with Abi thought i was getting extremly annoyed when he was asleep for like 40 minuites i wanted to scream at him to get up.
David Tennant was really good. His eyes really freak me out. I think he did a really good job and made the role his own.

Well, I did think I was going to hate David Tennant. But admittedly I kinda dig him. He seems ok. I can't wait to see the new series.

I thought David Tennat was really good, and i found the epsiode really good overall, even thoug my little sister was talking over most of it
I htought it was cleverly written by Russel T Davies. He put sme subtle jokesin as well, and he really made it suit a christmas day audience. He must be a role model to any wannabe writer.

I really liked Christopher Eccelston as the Doctor, but David Tennant is great. I loved all the humour in the episode, and the teasers at the end left me wanting more!
Especially the cyberman bit. I've been looking for spoilers on what happens with it. I have an idea, but its just a rumour, so my lips are sealed :p
