DS Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) and DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) investigate a robbery at a convenience store where the distraught owner, Mr Conway (Derek Ezenagu), was threatened with a machine gun. One of the assailants was bitten by the shopkeeper’s dog, which he then shot dead.

Terry and Phil trace the man with the bite injury through St Hugh’s A&E but lose him. They pick up his mobile which was left at reception and note that the last number he rang was known criminal, Danny Wing (Dickon Tolson). Phil and Terry accompanied by C019 officers break down the door to Danny’s flat and ring him from the phone they picked up at the hospital. The number appears on Danny’s phone as ‘Joseph Oyelamu’ (Jason Steed) who is found on file; he’s got major form - drugs, guns and armed robbery.

No-hoper Danny struggles during his ‘no comment’ interview and DS Ramani De Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) tells Phil to try and get Danny’s girlfriend, Tanya (Leila Borris) to go back on Danny’s alibi.

Ramani tells Tanya she knows she is pregnant with Danny’s child and convinces her to help them with their inquiries – it would be very bad timing if Danny went down for a long stretch. Tanya shows them a copy of the CCTV tape which shows Joseph drawing his gun and Danny’s shocked reaction. Ramani then manages to persuade Danny to reveal Joseph’s whereabouts which lead to a dramatic showdown.

Ramani realises she enjoys the action of being a copper when she gets the rare opportunity to work on an action-packed case. Impressed by her bravery, Ramani is the toast of the pub.

Also, Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and Louise Larson (Rosie Marcel) agree to make the most of the time they have left together before she gives evidence against Pete and goes into witness protection.

Loved-up Smithy suggests that he and Louise run away together after the trial. Louise tells Smithy she doesn’t want to screw his life up but his mind is made up. He tells her they are going to go through with his plan. Emigrate to Australia and start afresh. They seal the deal with a kiss but will it go as planned?

THE BILL is a Thames Television production. This episode was written by Len Collin, directed by Mike Cocker and produced by Lachlan Mackinnon.

Tom dobs his mate Andy (Andy Paul Harvey) in as being the cannabis user but Smithy gives them both a drugs test.

Meanwhile, back at Tom and Andy’s student house, PC Steve Hunter (James Lloyd) and Laura discover a secret door hidden behind a mirror and are stunned to find a room full of cannabis plants.

Tom desperately tells Smithy and DC Suzie Sim (Wendy Kweh) that he didn’t know about the plants and that the landlord, John Grimmond must be involved. DC Zain Nadir (TJ Ramini), Smithy and Suzie follow John when he leaves the house leading them to a haul of cannabis production goods. Zain congratulates Smithy on the arrest of Grimmond who has given them a lead on a big drugs baron.

Meanwhile, DS Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) is intrigued when Cindy (Jacqueline Defferary) arrives at the station with a toddler in tow and is shocked when he later discovers she didn’t report the child missing straight away. It looks like it. These eps sound sooo exciting. I heard that Smithy runs over and kills a pedestrian. Could this tie in with this storyline?

Poor Smithy! I'm hoping that his name will be cleared and that Zain will be the one to do it. Although it's going to break my heart to see Smithy go through all this, these kind of storylines do make excellent viewing, especially if one of our favs is the one getting a hard time.
