View Full Version : Sonia on my nerves!!

instinct

Dont't know about anyone else but I am really starting to dislike Sonia, she keeps blaming Martin for everything and everyone seems to be on her side saying that he is the one in the wrong, and in tonights episode when all he was trying to do was defend his job and his area from that snob male nurse, that Sonia was practically blaming him again without even knowing what the argument was about. This is what type of person Sonia is: she comes to the aid of her friend before she considers Martins feelings (the man she is suppose to be in love with let alone be married with).

Anyone have any views on this?

I don't know why you are so surprised. Why should she be the only Eastenders character not to completely change her personality? :rotfl:

I didn't like her friends attitude to Martin... and she let her friend do that to her husband..

I agree but for some reason, Eastenders always want to make her the one on the moral highground. She's turned into a right spiteful mare!

Shes really annoying. They're trying to make her into an intelligent, upper class girl, but it aint working. Its just irritating and doesn't work.

but they are right in Sonia's change... many women who have been stuck at home and they get a taste of independance do change and the partner doesn't want this to happen.. it happens to a lot of couples when one of them goes to college, they usually end up splitting cause they have nothing in common anymore

exactly. but i am noticing a proper anti-student bias in EastEnders. Sonia (and to an extent Ruby, although it's never a storyline) is the only one in the show who's gone beyond compulsary education and all they ever do is portray it as a bad thing! they seem to be implying that if Sonia didn't have college she would have a happy marriage with Martin and Rebecca would be with them. to me her character hasn't changed that much, it's Martin who has- becoming a sulky kid because his wife has things in her life other than him. and the only students we see are Naiomi the confused lesbian who let Sonia go off and nearly get attacked by a homeless man and that **** last night!

That was one of the several reasons that I got divorced from my previous hubby, he wanted a little house wife, he didn't want some one with more brains than he had  Alot of couples DO break up when one or the other are less than supportive.. its a shame but its how it goes,, I can see where Sonia is coming from and I can see my ex husband in Martin ( lashing out and acting up ):thumbsdow
So I applaud Sonia for bettering herself and trying to make something of her life KUDOS to her ( even tho as a couple( Martin and Sonia) they are SNORECITY http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_50.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYNL) ZZZZ)

I don't think Sonia would be happyly married to Martin without college.. she would be married and miserable but very trapped as she would have nothing of her own.. Sonia was always a strong, independent character and Martin knew that before he met her.. what was he expecting? Sonia swapping Knitting patterns with Pauline..

Sonia was very right last week "there are two women in this house and you married the wrong one"

hahaha that is the very reason I am not with my husband anymore too.. I finished college and got a good job and he didn't want that, he wanted a mother and housewife to take care of him

I have to say though - Sonia is frustrating - yes, shes doing great to do her course etc, but Martin shouldn't be belittled for being happy and content with his life and happy with his stall and living in Walford. And for that guy saying about as soon as a doc comes into her life, she'll be off - that deserved a smack, not just a shove, so I feel for Martin ...

Looking at this from the other perspective... I married my wife when she only had a few O levels. Since getting married she has gone on to nurse and then proper psychiatric training, has now got two masters degrees as well as innumerable diplomas etc. and is a consultant at a big London hospital. I have to say that at first I did feel a bit neglected but I always supported her in "bettering" herself. And I'm glad I did. She is now a much more outgoing and confident person than when I first knew her and I like that.

The extra money also comes in handy...

I agree with that much and nobody should ever be belittled for what they enjoy doing whether it is running a stall or been a top doctor.. you usually find the people with the simpler life is the happier one!!

Yes, in the early days of our marriage when I was earning more than my wife we used to laugh about that whenever that view came up on television or anywhere. I used to tell her it was all right with me if she went out and earned enough money for me to retire and that I promised not to feel intimidated. :rotfl:

I posted something about how boring Sonia is now a couple of months ago. She is probably my least favourite character now. She's so condescending and up herself, I really can't stand her anymore. Please somebody read this and write her out.

I certainly hope not. Sonia is one of the few characters I still care about. I understand totally why she is behaving this way and I don't find her boring in the least. I'd rather she was behaving like this than the Saint Sonia character she became for a while. I don't find her condescending either. To me, she is simply disappointed in Martin because he doesn't want to know about her life outside the house in Walford. He has made no effort to meet her friends and sulks when she goes out on her own or has work to do. Martin has driven Sonia away which is a shame because his behaviour is only because he is so insecure and terrified of losing her.

But to each his own ... :)

I didn't like the way she jumped to wrong conclusions about what had happened though with that guy - spouses listen to each other before making assumptions about what has happened (or me and my hubby do anyway) - and then she wondered why Martin jumped off the deep end when she "tried" to apologise.

I am all for bettering yourself etc and think her going to college is great, but she shouldn't be so down on him like she has been - they need to move out, get their own place, and live their lives together on their own for a bit, without all of the interferences going on....

Meaning old grumpy faced Pauline,, no kidding,, the only reason Gus was good for Martin is cos Gus used to have a thing for Sonia and he knew how to LISTEN,, if Martin would just get off his HIGH HORSE and LISTEN to her for a change, MAYBE JUST MAYBE they might have a marriage worth salvaging,, right now I don't think its gonna happen!!!
Remember what happened last night,, Martin is under the assumption that Sonia is coming back to him, my guess is that shes gonna leave him plain and simple,, what u guys think ????????:searchme:
