We had ours (yr11) the week before last, they're really boring and you end up with 45 minutes left over when you've finished (well most of our year did anyway) and the invigilators wouldn't let us put our heads down and go to sleep! The cheek! :D I got mostly As, the worst was a D for Chemistry (that's a fail cos it was the higher paper). Not bad, to say I never revised  -No, I did revise for Chemistry actually  shows what good that did...:p

Tori
05-12-2005, 19:16
ah well, you did well. that annoys me about our invigilators aswell. we finish early and we can't sleep... grrr. and i am doing some revision

I had English Lit today. OH-MY-DAYS. It was sooo hard. The anthology stuff especially. Of mice and men, and An inspector calls was OK, but it was like 2 and a bit hours long, so dragged on for ages. And i only had, like, 10 minutes break between my Bilogy exam and that one. Talking of Biology, that was hard too. It was all about the blood and things, and i really can't remember that. I'm more of a plants person me thinks.

Does anyone do the Edexcel english lit?

Tori
05-12-2005, 19:40
ugh. anthology stuff. i do AQA. is it any different the poems we study?

Abi
05-12-2005, 19:52
Well i'm doing about "identity", and it sucks.

Tori
05-12-2005, 19:54
ugh. i hate anything invloving anthology anyway!

Abi
05-12-2005, 19:56
I know! I'm dreading tomorrow, i have maths and history. The maths shouldn't be so bad, as its paper 2, which i find easy, but History.... thats in a different league

Tori
05-12-2005, 19:56
i'm dreading sociology on weds... maths tmorrow should be alright for me then french

Abi
05-12-2005, 19:58
French!!! Is that as bad as German? I have to remember a whole essay on the enviroment in London for my exam. Its impossible.

Tori
05-12-2005, 19:59
well i find them ok. we had to do a memorised essay on our holidays for french and german, but my french teacher is rubbish so that bit is a bit annoying

Abi
05-12-2005, 20:01
I had to write about a past holiday for my year 10 exams. That one was ok i thought, as we've done it to death already.... letzes jahr, in den sommer ferien, bin ich nach spanien geflogen. ich bin mit meine mutter und schwester, in die nahe von Madrid..... lol. I'll stop now

Tori
05-12-2005, 20:03
in german we used our controlled cwk for our presentation but in french we didn't and i'm finding learning something really similar difficult now

Abi

I bet your having fun then!!

I've just been having a "discussion" with my mum. She reckons that exams have got easier, but then realised that she only did one final exam at the end of her schooling time, so didn't have it so bad, and that all the pressure would make it harder. Its a point.

Also, it [EDIT] me off when the news critises how well people do on exams. They were going on last year about the 97% pass rate means that it must be easier, but bearing in mind that A* to G is a pass in most subject, i'd be surprised if people didn't get 5 of them!

di marco
05-12-2005, 20:09

it annoys me when parents start saying stuff like that... that they don't realise how much pressure is put on us. cwk helps those who are normally stressed in exam situations but providing the the whole subject isn't based on cwk, then does it really matter?

also, about exam results- you do the best you can and thats it. it really annoys me like i was in france when the a level results came out and it ws all up again- we do our best and we are happy with it

German can be hard, but generally its ok. The tenses are forms get a bit tricky, but its easier than Spanish (i dropped that because i coudn't do it).

I'm so pleased that i'm finshed on the 19th, and i get more time to go xmas shopping, sa i'm not in school all the time everyday!!!

Tori
06-12-2005, 13:51

we have to go in after our mocks though :(

Abi
06-12-2005, 19:15
had my history today. not as bad as what i thought it would be. I think i did OK, but i still have my Russia section to do, so its not ever yet!

Maths was pips as well!!! It was paper 2, so it was like "Whats the volume of this cube?", it was sooo easy

di marco

i never did spanish, we had the choice whether we wanted to do german, spanish or latin, my sis did spanish though and said it was hard, she kept getting mixed up between french and spanish

isnt paper 2 the calculator paper?
on my exam board, you have paper 1, 2 and 3. You have to do two of them, and they each have 2 sections, calculator and non calculator. Paper 1 is everything to an E grade, paper 2 is everything to a C grade and paper 3 is everything upto A*. I'm doing Paper 2 and 3. On Tuesday i did paper 2, so i did 45 minutes of non-calculation, and 45 minutes of calculator. So yeah, its half and half, di marco

Tori
07-12-2005, 18:27
which board are you with?

oh right, it was different on my exam board, paper 1 was the non calculator paper and paper 2 was the calculator paper. then there were different tiers, lower, intermediate and higher

I only had one exam today :) but it was english :( most of it was ok, but out teacher told us before hand that theres not a lot you can write for the poetry one, and she wsa right. I only made, like, 2 points. Its sucked. Anyway, seeing as the other two parts, and my enlglish lit were ok, and i still have media to go, i'm hoping that i dont do too badly. Fingers crossed!

What exams do you have cornetgal??

Good luck Di Marco- you'll do fine, i'm sure :)

i had an RE exam today and it was alright but yet again i froze. at least i didn't go purple again

Kim
08-12-2005, 21:21
Trigonomety, what exactly do you do in that?

Abi
08-12-2005, 21:44
Its part of maths, to work out the length of sides and angles in a triangle. Very long. Very boring. Avoid at all costs.

di marco
09-12-2005, 06:35

di marco
09-12-2005, 14:35
well i had my maths mock today. it was ok i suppose but we only had 45mins instead of 1hr30 to do it as our teacher didnt turn up,m then he blamed it on me! :( still, i only managed to do half of it and got half marks so i got nearly everything i did right!

yeh a bit i suppose, but harder than that, instead of using sides to work out the sides, you use angles

i like trigonometry :p i can actually do it :p well i could. iaint done it in soooo long. i like pythagoras as well :p i can do that.
hows everyones mocks going then? i recently had a maths exam (proper) but it was easy :) i used to be on WJEC board (is that the same as excedel?) but now in college we're on AQA.

Abi
10-12-2005, 12:08
I dont think it is the same as edexcel.....:searchme:

Tori
10-12-2005, 13:27
i like trigonometry, i find it quite easy. but i kinda like maths that i can do!

and i don't think WJEC and edexcel are the same

Jojo
10-12-2005, 13:36
I used to love trig, especially when it came to doing my engineering stuff at college - i always remember it as soh cah toa . In engineering we also had to do loads of quadratic equations aswell, and I loved doing them - I miss it in a way now....

Tori
10-12-2005, 13:37
i like maths because i was put in a lower set because they thought i wouldn't cope with the harder stuf. i was really annoyed at the time, but i'm glad now

di marco
10-12-2005, 15:20

when my maths teacher used to say that i used to think what?! i cant ever remember how to spell that so it aint no good to me lol!

Tori
10-12-2005, 18:25
sohcahtoa- its a way of remembering the way to do it eg:
sin=opp/hyp etc

Abi
10-12-2005, 19:29
I hate doing it, even though i can. It just takes so long!! I doubt i'll ever go into engineering or arceiture, so i dont think i'll use it that much in later life.... thank god!

Tori
10-12-2005, 19:30
sorry, can i just ask how it takes so long, not being rude or anything

Abi
12-12-2005, 17:32
History was ok, but i compeltly failed maths. It was ALL trigonometry, and i mean all of it. It sucked. PE was ok, but i was in defence, and i'm bad at that, so i'm not expecting to have done that great. :(

Tori
12-12-2005, 18:11
awww i'm sure you did good

Mindy
12-12-2005, 18:44
Personally i think you should all STOP complaining and just do yur best...no use moaning because exams are apart of our lives now...so we may aswell get used to it then complain :)

Abi
12-12-2005, 18:50
lol, may i just remind you, Mindy, who was moaning ALL DAY with Junko about the Pe assessment? who was it that complained about maths? and who was revising 5 minutes efore the History exam?! Meh, it was YOU. So dont oyu go giving everyone that card!! You'll be reminded of what you just said in the morning, young lady :p

Tori
12-12-2005, 18:51

what do you normally play in netball? i normally play attack but cos there where too many other people who refused to play anything other than attack they made me play defence, im good at defence too but just play better when in attack

di marco
12-12-2005, 20:47
i had the first part of my 2nd biology mock today. i dont understand, i revise and know it all but then i can never answer the questions! it was hard but easier than the other one we done so i think i might have done better on this one. now all i need to do tomorrow is do well on the 2nd part like i did last time

I'm normally Goal Attack; because i'm tall, theres no one thats taller than me to defend me!!!! I was stuck in goal defence, which i really can't do, because my arms just go flying everywhere, and i mess up compeltly. We have loads of them fussy people in our year as well, that refuse to do certain parts. I'll give any part a go, its just whether i'm good at it thats the problem. They just refuse point-blank. It irritates me so much, but........ thats something you gotta deal with i guess....but still, meh!

yeh ill play any part, but my fave is attack, and im quite good at defense, im not very good at wings and centre though. i just think its stupid that these people refuse to play anything else other than attack even when they cant shoot, and its unfair that i have to be put somewhere else just cos theyre so selfish

I only had PE today. It was the written test, which is multiple choice, so it was really easy. It was only 45 minutes long, and seeing as i had it first thing, i got nearly the whole day off. Only 3 exams left now, and only English Media is more than an hour, the rest are German things, so they're not so bad. :cheer:

Abi
14-12-2005, 14:07
Only Gernam Speaking left :cheer: Thats on Monday, so i have the rest of today, tomorrow and Friday off!! :cheer: wahooo!

Tori
14-12-2005, 17:54
you're still on study leave? you lucky thing! i'm back in but i've got my german oral on friday so i get most of the day off.... i'm dreading sociology tomorrow

Abi
14-12-2005, 22:24
Yeah, i'm lucky. If i'd choosen Art or Music, then nearly all my study leave would be taken. As it is, i choose the subjects with the least amount of exams :cheer:

Tori
15-12-2005, 16:55
omg i can't believe it.... i got a C in sociology.... how the heck did i manage that??? i'm still in shock and i found out at 12pm today!

Abi
15-12-2005, 17:01
Well done :cheer:

I haven't had any of my grades back yet, i wont get them unitll janurary, so hopefully if this thread is still open i'll be able to tell you what i got too!!

Have you had any other grades back yet?

Tori
15-12-2005, 17:05
thanks :) are you on study leave till the end of term?

i think we should be because people arn't bothering to come in- there were 7 of us in 1 lesson today and we are only watching dvds or looking at our results

Katy
15-12-2005, 17:13
E in Geography. Woooo.

I really need to Revise.

Abi
15-12-2005, 17:21
lol, revision is the worst part about school IMO

I dont have to go back to school untill monday, when i have my incredibly long (10 minute lol) german speaking exam. Apart from that, i'm finally done!!!

Katy
15-12-2005, 17:24
German speaking i remember it well, just dont be distracted and spend the whole time looking out the window like me and yourll be fine. Are you doing higher or Foundation Abi?

Abi
15-12-2005, 17:29
Higher. And i've failed the listening already. The reading and writing i did ok on i think, but because i've failed hte listening, everything is riding on the speaking, which isn't good. A two minute speach on the enviroment isn't something that comes easily in German!!! I'm finding higher ok though, i've done practise foundation papers, and they're pretty easy. The higher paper is more of a challenge, but hopefully i'll do ok. It listening i can't do though :rotfl:

Katy
15-12-2005, 17:33
i had the same problem in the end i decided to do foundation i got a C overall. I did my Presentation on healthy eating. What let me down was the listening to i could never pick out what was being said, especially when a long passage was read and like one word was the answer. I used to always add English words in the middle of Questions which wasnt very helpful.

Abi
15-12-2005, 17:41
lol, tell me about it! A C is really good, well done!!

good luck in your speaking. i had mine today and once you got into it, it goes well. just don't do what i did.... learn one topic and not revise the others... i got an A but i kept stalling which isn't good!

Abi
16-12-2005, 16:28
lol, i'll try and revise them all, but it's a bit hard!!

Tori
16-12-2005, 16:29
lol!! how many have you had to learn?

di marco

Tori
16-12-2005, 20:25

 50 topics???

Tori
16-12-2005, 20:29

di marco

no, 50 questions. its 5 topics per language

oh lol! i meant we had about 6 topics, so about 60 questions i think, some topics had more questions than others though

Tori
16-12-2005, 20:36
ah right. we have an average of 8 per topic but you only have to learn 4 mins worth

di marco
16-12-2005, 20:39
ah right. we have an average of 8 per topic but you only have to learn 4 mins worth

yeh we had to learn about 5mins worth but they only asked you about 2/3 topics but you didnt know which ones so you had to learn them all which was annoying!

Tori
16-12-2005, 20:40
same here.... i don't find it annoying.... just slightly frustrating if you try really hard with one set and they don't come up

Abi
16-12-2005, 20:40
We have about 10 topics, and each of them have about 5 questions. But basically, you get better marks if they dont have to keep asking you questions, so i have to think of a little speech that i can adapt for each of them, that i can adapt for whatever the question is

Tori
16-12-2005, 20:41
ah right. thats different to us. they separate them up to make it sound like a discussion

Abi
16-12-2005, 20:44
Well we were told that if we can sustain an arguement and the answer to a quesion, then you'll get the marks. If they have to promt you with questions, so that you know what to say next, then you get less. Thats just our exam board though.

Tori
17-12-2005, 10:04
who are you with again?

Kim
17-12-2005, 12:39
Yeah, i'm lucky. If i'd choosen Art or Music, then nearly all my study leave would be taken. As it is, i choose the subjects with the least amount of exams :cheer:

In my school, most of it is exams. To get subjects high in coursework, you have to take things like dt, art, photography, which i am rubbish at.

Abi
17-12-2005, 12:41

erm.... exexcel i think....

Tori
17-12-2005, 20:18

Abi

Well i got some exams back today. They're ok i guess, not the best in the world, but they'll do for me i guess.

I got a C in chemistry, which is bad for me, but i got a B in biology. All the sciences grades are put togtehr, so hopefulle if i do wellk in Physics, then i wont fail completly.

I got my english exam back as well. I haven't worked out my overall grade yet, but i;ve got 4 B's, 2 C's and a D so far. I have one more media to get, then i add all those marks togther with coursework and speaking and listening, to give my final grade.

anyways, i still have loooooads to get. not looking forwards to it!

welldone Abi. I cried in my law mock today i have no chance in the real thing next week. It was so hard. Dreading the results.

Tori
06-01-2006, 16:53
awww, i'm sure you'll do fine. think positive!

Katy
06-01-2006, 16:56
think positive it will be a miracle if i pass. I was told to day by a mate in upper sixth that if the worst comes to the worst i can do the Aquinas motto -- RESIT. i hope i dont but its always a backup.

Tori
06-01-2006, 16:58
are you at aquinas then? what is it really like because everyone says its bad!

well good luck!

Katy
06-01-2006, 17:02
bad!!! its the best college ever i love it. It is so much better than my old school. I dont think its that bad as people queue for days to get in. they had to change it though, to a phone in. The teachers are dead nice and i met loads of great friends.

I really hope i do well because it would be so dissapointing to have to resit it.

Tori
06-01-2006, 17:03
i'm too late to get my application in and i've already said yes to cheadle so thats where i'm going. but i agree it must be good... ambrose taught my mum years ago and she hates him! also, aquinas is too far away from my house!

Katy
06-01-2006, 17:06
Ambrose was out with his megaphone today as the corridor was geting a bit to busy. Cheadles a good college, i wa going to go to the ridge if i didnt get my GCSEs but i did much better than expected so i got into aquinas. I would have gone to the Marple campus though.

Tori
06-01-2006, 17:18
marple is far, but i gotta go up there for german next year. maybe i should have gone to aquinas.

how many mocks have you got left?
