Can you highlight all the songs on your iPod in iTunes and drag them over to the Computer bit? I do the opposite of that to move them from PC to iPod.

You can definitely do this. My son had all his music on my hubby's computer, but down loaded it from his ipod onto his own computer. Keep trying

Whether its the same for a shuffle or not though, i don't know. I shouldnt think there is too much difference though

it should happen when you plug the usb in and itunes loads up. I think there is an option in the options to do it aswell though

I just spent my birthday money (:D) on an iPod Nano. I'ev never had an iPod before, and i'm totally confused with it. I installed the CD and followed everything on screen, right. iTunes is working perfectly, but it says the iPod isn't connected, when i look at the preferences. Well, it is, because its charging and says not to disconnect it. So why wont iTunes let me put any music onto it? I'm probably being thick, but its totally confused me...

Another thing, when my sister got hers, she had to go onto some part of the Apple website to register it... well i haven't been prompted to do anything like that. Is that what i'm doing wrong? Or dont you do that?

I'm totally confused with this bloody thing now!!

Tori
08-04-2006, 18:28
go to file and update (ipod name) then it will reconnect... had that confusion the other week!

the registration thing came up automatically for me, but it said something about going to the website and doing it that way, unless they already registered it in the shop for you. sorry if i sound confusing

this is the link you need to register :
https://register.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/GlobaliReg.woa

Abi
08-04-2006, 18:33
It wont let me click "update iPod" though.

When i was installing it, i did this form thing, where it asked for the seriel code, your name etc. Is that registering it? I remembered it as being a website form...

God, i'm confused!! Remind me never to buy one of these ruddy things again!!

Tori
08-04-2006, 18:36
yeah thats registering.

is there music in iTunes to transfer? because thats the only reason why i it wouldn;t let you. maybe restart you ipod?

Abi
08-04-2006, 19:48
Well i went back into iTunes, and this message came up saying that the iPod software hadn't been installed properly, so reinstall it. I did that, and it came up saying that the iTunes also needed reinstalling. So i uninstalled it. Now, whenever i put the disk in to install it again, it crashes in about 10-15 seconds, so i can't install it.

Is there any other way i can get music onto my iPod, without using iTunes, because my iPod looks like its all ok...

EDITED TO ADD: I just tried again, and it didn't freeze, but it doesn't want to reinstall i Tunes, it just asks if you want to replace the iPod software. How do i install iTunes, without reinstalling my iPod software? I dont get it!!

Jojo
08-04-2006, 22:14
With my nano, I installed the software disk, then installed iTunes.

Sometimes when I plug in the pod, it doesn't recognise it, but says not to disconnect it also....i use the remove hardware option and then plug it back in again, which seems to work for some wierd reason - i try and make sure iTunes is open when i plug it in....it does act wierd though..

I think NB has an iPod, but I remember he said he didn't use iTunes, might be worth asking him :searchme:

Abi
08-04-2006, 22:17
Thats what i've been doing- just installing the CD, which installs iTunes...

I just double checked its registered, and it was, so thats not the problem. It just doesn't want to work...

Thats true, he said he used a different programme... i might google it....

Jojo
08-04-2006, 22:25
Yeah, I remember we had a conversation about iTunes and he'd said he used a different programme as iTunes annoyed the heck out of him.....I think they are very temperamental..(iTunes/iPod's that is)

Abi
08-04-2006, 22:39
Well i'm just downloading iTunes from the Apple Website, to see if it works if i do it that way, rather then off the CD. My computer is very tempreramental itself, it doesn't like doing things like this (:rotfl:), so it might be that which is mucking up the installation, because the CD drive doesn't always like working (I need a new computer. Like, now.)

If that doesn't work, then i guess i'll have to try and make another programme work... although my computer will probably decide it doesn't want my iPod to work at all. Its like a child- when i doesn't want to do something, it will refuse untill its basically forced :rotfl:

Kim
08-04-2006, 22:43
Try using the most basic edition of I tunes you can, that's what I did with mine.

Abi
09-04-2006, 00:25
I downloaded iTunes off the Apple website, and now its working absolutly fine!! Thanks to Ems, i worked out how you actually get songs onto it, so now i'm deafening myself with Rock Music once again!

I even worked out how this speaker dock that i got for my birthday yesterday works, so i can play it thorugh speakers too. I'm very chuffed!! :rotfl:

Anyway, thanks for all your advice and everything- it really helped :)

Abi

Ok, we have a problem...

I turned my iPod on, and it just comes up with "Disk Mode (a big tick) ok to disconnect". Last time i plugged it into my computer, i took it out how your meant to and all that...

Anyway, i tried plugging it back in, and then seeing if it worked. Well it came up with the big "do not disconnect" thing, then when i stopped it, and unplugged it, it did the same thing. The light doesn't even turn on.

Any advice?

EDIT: Problem sorted. The thing that the website suggested didn't work first time round, but i just tried it again, and its fine now.

Kim

I've got I problem with mine now, well sort of. My computer broke yesterday but we found out that there was a virus in my account and had to delete my account to get the virus out, and we saved a folder with my documents in on the desktop, but it didn't save my I tunes playlist. How do I connect my I pod to the computer without blanking it?

Tori
18-04-2006, 10:28

Can't you also use the iPod as a disk drive? I think it'd be the same in terms of using a usb stick, but it might be worth a try?

Jojo
25-08-2006, 08:25
Your iPod can be used as a removable drive, so you can either drag and drop them as a normal copy file, or when you synchronize your iPod, change the option so it copies the files from your iPod to your computer and it should be fine. I had to do this when I got my new laptop and I haven't lost any of my songs at all, they've all copied across fine.

Tori
12-02-2007, 19:19
Just to bring this up again, I recently had to have a new hard drive in my computer, so i lost everything on my computer and fortunately i had cds for most of the songs, but for some i don't and i was wondering whether i can transfer from ipod to computer, as no programmes appear to let me copy back. i have already tried the suggestions in this thread but it hasn't worked!
any help will be appreciated! :)

Jojo
12-02-2007, 19:34
I seem to remember seeing an option within iTunes about how you synchronise your iPod, whether it be from iPod to comp, comp to iPod or update both. Have a check within your options Vikki. I'll see if my brain will allow me to remember where it is.

Kim
12-02-2007, 19:35
Unfortunately, I don't think there is. I got a new computer, so I just had to loose the songs that I didn't have a CD for.

Jojo
12-02-2007, 19:42
If you use your iPod as a hard drive - thats one way - you can drag and drop the files manually - but that will only work if you un-enable iTunes to automatically open when you plug in your iPod (or at least synchronise) as otherwise you will immediately lose the music files at that point.

Still thinking about the other options though :)

Tori
12-02-2007, 19:48
I have been able to transfer purchases from my ipod to the computer, and i have tried the disk use, but it doesn't appear to be working

Jojo
12-02-2007, 19:54
iTunes 7 reckons you can sync both ways :searchme:

I've never tried to be honest - I always pop everything onto a spare CD-R in case of any problems and then keep it locked away. Have a look through iTunes website though - you might be able to find something in there. Good luck

Abi

Just got a new nano had a mini but it died on me. And having trouble with the connection with the headphones, I took it back today and they gave me another one and it's doing the same again. You have to like twist the headphones around in the connection bit at the bottom to get some sound to come out.
Is anyone else's like this???

Abi
10-03-2007, 16:24
I've had that before. Go to Argos and buy some headphones from there- the ones that come with the iPods have a dodgy connection on them. Mine broke after a few weeks- some of my mates brought them broken, they're that bad.

Tori
10-03-2007, 18:27
i know the calendar and address books are taken from microsoft outlook, as that's where mine have been taken from. you select the option in the ipod bit, and then there is an option about synchronising calendar, address book etc

.:SpIcYsPy:.
10-03-2007, 19:40

So after you type the info. in do you import it the same like you do with your songs?

Is this after I plugged in my iPod and 'Spicy's' Ipod comes up?.. Then I would go to Edit and then Options, am I right?

Get a USB stick or a blank disc, go into the bit where you can get up some of the programmes that you have on your computer, then right click and select send to, and send it to whatever removable device you have. Then just install it on the laptop from there.

it won't let me for some reason, you know on the screen and it shows al the music in black, well mine our in grey and it wont let me click on any of them. I cant seem to figure out why. At the end of the day its my own stupid fault for not backing them up.

Also i have found all my music collection on a back up of windows media player. Is there any way you can transfer from WMP to ITunes because i cant seem to find that out either.

Jojo
29-05-2007, 09:02
I have mine set to automatically open / play in iTunes - you could poss change your settings so the file type (whether mp3 etc) uses iTunes to play rather than Media Player through your folder options menu (I think it is). I know that whenever I've opened through iTunes I've never had this problem and I've changed laptop about 3 times since having my Nano.

Hope that helps a tad hun

Deffo cancel that - it will erase all of your songs otherwise.

You may well have to back them up to cd first and then put them on, although I've never had that happen - is it to do with your settings within iTunes itself, as I know there are a couple of options as to how you sync your pod.

Katy
01-06-2007, 13:38

I have a problem with my ipod nano. About three weeks ago it needed charged so I plugged it into my pc as normal but the ITunes page where it shows my ipod didn't come on and the screen was completely blank. I had it plugged into the computer all weekend and still nothing, I went onto the help page and they suggested moving the hold button backwards and forwards a few times while pressing the menu button. I did this for about 15 minutes but still nothing. A couple of days later I plugged it back into my pc and eureka it came on and started charging as normal. The next day I went to put it on and it was blank again and refusing to come on. I've tried all week to try and charge it without much success but tonight I got it to charge again but I haven't used it for weeks so how can it need charging. Any tips on where I can take it to be fixed or is it knackered.

I got mine for about £10 that was iSound instead of Apple, and it works fine. I just thought there might be a problem getting the iPod to connect to the computer, if it's like that.

After about 3 hours the Ipod is fully charged up again and by some freaky coincedence it's working. I have switched it off and on just to make sure and it's playing tunes. But it did the same thing two weeks ago and when I went to use it the screen was blank and it refused to come on. I'll just have to wait until tomorrow or Monday to see if it decides to go wonly again.

Can you borrow a lead off of someone to connect it to the computer just to check it isn't that before you chuck the iPod, or have you tried another iPod with that lead that worked fine?

I may just buy a charger to see and if that don't work. I'll take the little bugger out to a large field and attached it to some dinamite. and blow it to kingdom come.

I take it it's warranty is up then, and that you don't have insurance or anything on it?

I bought it last august from Argos I will have to look for the waranty. I know there are a some shops in town who fix ipods I will buy a proper charger and see how that goes if it still doesn't work I will take it to a shop to see if they can fix it.

If you can find the warranty I'd take it straight to Argos; won't cost you anything, after all.

i charged my ipod a few weeks ago and then didnt use to til saturday and when i turned it on it said that there was hardly any battery left. when i moaned about it to my dad he said that electronic things can wear down the battery without even using them, so it might have been something to do with that? plus, i was told that using a mains charger was better cos charging it through the computer could damage the ipod/computer (one of the two, cant remember which lol!)

I tried switching it on again yesterday and after holding down the menu and play buttons for a few seconds it did come on again so I plugged it back in my PC to try and put a song on it, again it showed that it needed charged so I had to wait for another hour and a half until it had charged up. Once it was fully charged I turned if off and on a couple of times and this morning it was working fine again. but I'm going to buy a charger just to be safe.
