View Full Version : he's back
TV tough guy Ross Kemp is to rejoin EastEnders, the Mirror can reveal.
The Albert Square favourite - who plays hardman Grant Mitchell - is returning to the crisis-hit BBC soap after six years in exile on ITV. Beeb executives are finalising a hefty new contract with Ross, 40, and will make an official announcement shortly.
An insider said: "We're just tidying up the fine print on the deal, but we're good to go.
"Ross created one of the most powerful television characters ever and viewers have been wanting him back since the day he left. We're delighted and very excited."
Ross will be reunited in the autumn with his screen brother Phil, actor Steve McFadden - who appeared back in the Square last night for the first time in 18 months.
Their TV mum Peggy - Barbara Windsor, 67 - will rejoin the cast in August.
BBC chiefs predict the Mitchells' reunion will revive the ailing soap's fortunes.
"The Mitchell brothers go together like bacon and eggs," added the insider. "To have them back again is pure TV gold."
Ross quit EastEnders in 1999 after 10 years and defected to ITV in a "golden handcuffs" deal worth more than £1million.
He exited Walford in dramatic style - surviving a high-speed car crash into the river Thames.
Ross hinted last year that the lure of Albert Square was still a temptation. "You never say never in the job I do because you never know what's around the corner."

I am glad he is back, Phil we could do without but whats going to happen with them, are we back again to "hey Brov", the hardmen of Walford, I'm sorry but I cant see bringing the Mitchells as being the saving of Eastenders. The writers seem to be contstantly going back to old storylines, Sonia/Chloe, The Mitchells and no new ones.
yes but its more realisitc covering old storylines theres only so much you can do with a character to make them believeable give them to many different storylines and it just becomes unrealistic and plus weve got to see if phil will forgive grant for sleeping with kathy because they never got to sort it out properly

He won't... I dont' think he has feelings from Sharon anymore.. that is all in the past and he was married to Tiffany before he left...

Sharon was the love of Grants life.
Anyway... I'll wait for official confirmation, but I do hope it's true.

it has not been confirmed that grant is returning, nothing has been signed or sealed.this is a rumour at this moment in time.in all the press, they have offered ross kemp a contract but it hasnt been signed yet.this topic is still speculation, all the papers and mags say nothing has been signed, and if or when they confirm it,this post is just another rumour
He's been out of Eastenders too long. Things have changed and this will not improve the soap at all. When the Mitchells were in it people were getting fed up of them and wanted them out, I'm not saying everyone felt like this, at the end of the day we all have our fav characters and I respect this fact. I just feel that Eastenders are now getting very desperate, still time will tell. Of course the main area of fault lies with the producers and writers.
Just for the record I used to be a fan of the Mitchells then I just got fed up with them, making everyones life a misery. Just hope they wil be different.
It will be great to have him back. He is a great character. Sharon was indeed the love of Grant's life. All the others didn't come close. I don't want a sharongate repeat though. However, I think they will always hold a torch to one another. It will be intresting to see how Sharon and Grant react around each other and how Dennis will feel to have her ex-husband back in the square. What ever the outcome though, it's Dennis that I want Sharon to be with. :)
As for Phil/Grant/Dennis - I think they will bang heads with him. However I don't feel that this will scare Dennis or put him off. He can certainly handle himself and give as good as he gets.
All we need now is confirmation.
its good dat theyre back and it will be more excitment in the square ,when is kat and beppi coming back

Is Beppi supposed to be returning then?. :hmm:
I think that it will be inevitable for Dennis and Grant cause conflict. Grant will hold some resentment towards Dennis for Sharon loving him as well as the fact that he helped set Phil up. I also feel that they are both alike in many ways -hot tempered, talk with their fists, womanisers and have/had a love for Sharon.
If this is true, it's only a matter of time before Grant finds out that Sharon aborted his baby, unless of course he already knows. :hmm:

I doubt it. EE were going to give Michael Greco a better exit but he left early and they had no choice to give him a quick exit at the back of a cab with a lame excuse. He wasn't that big of a credit to the show anyway. I found him rather wooden.

By bringing back old characters like Grant,Peggy,Phil etc I feel Eastenders is going backwards instead of trying new, fresh characters and stories. I think there will be more violence probably most of the time with all these gangsters about ie Jonny and when Dennis returns, to me it just sounds boring but thats just my opinion.

Personally, I'm well excited that Grant may be coming back. I think that Ross Kemp is fantastic-I like the Mitchell bros togther but Grant was always my personal favourite. I'd really like to see Chrissie and Grant together and some tension between Sharon and the mitchell bros. But I hat Peggy and I wish she wasnt coming back, although if she reinstates Alfie as head of Queen Vic I'll be happy.
I agree, Eastenders needs some new exciting characters too-but I think the Moons and the Allens are great and just wat stenders needs.
Yay to Grant!

yeah i don't think it is true because the mirror paper tells quite alot of lies
people must remember it has not been confirmed and i agree with debbie that bringing back old characters is not as good as finding new fresh faces. they hiped up dirty den coming back and look what we got!!!!!! a dirty old man who was past it!!!!

couldn't agree more alisha. i think if the watts v mitchell feud reappears sharon will very much be the centre of it, with grant and dennis holding some power over her.
HOWEVER at the end of the day i think after all they've been through sharon and dennis should stick together. while sharon may be the love of grant's life, dennis is the love of her's
i think that it would far too repetitive to do yet ANOTHER love triangle. far better to show the platonic connection that sharon and grant share as a result of their past (and perhaps a bit of jealousy/awkwardness on dennis' part) which will add another dimension to the feud. it will certainly be interesting to see everything in EE to develop- im looking forward to it.
i wonder when it will be confirmed

Absolutely:
Although Sharon did love Grant her love for Dennis simply out weighs it. She did after all confirm to Den that Dennis was the one person that’s made her happier than she ever thought she could be -that goes beyond, Grant, Phil, Tom etc. Having watched Sharon will various partners over the years I honestly feel that she has found her soulmate in Dennis and he is in fact the love of her life. Sharon has gotton under Dennis's skin like no other and their intensity of their feeling are as deep as it goes. While I do think that Sharon and Grants relationship was the most explosive, Sharon and Dennis's are by far the most passionate. I really did like the Sharongate story -it was brilliant, made great viewing and will be remembered for years to come but I like to remember it how it was. To have it dragged up now (whether that be Grant/Sharon/Phil or Grant/Sharon/Dennis) would taint it and it's just another way off ee trying to re-live their glory years. Anyway, after we had Zoe/Dennis/Sharon last year I'm hoping that ee will move away from that now.
I don't mind seeing jealousy on both Dennis and Grants part (subconsciously or not) but that’s as far as it should go. The Watts and Mitchell’s feud will always persist, Grants comeback (if he is) will take it to another level and I feel that this has more promise than a predictable love triangle. Grant could help Phil re-build their empire and learning about Sharon’s abortion as well as being the father to Michelle’s father sounds far superior.

indeed it does. there are many other routes to go down with all these characters and i really think it would be a waste of a very good opportunity to go down the most repetitive and predictable.
as much as every soap needs a good love triangle, EE's had too many of late and needs to focus on the family stuff once again. this is by far EE's strongest asset and with its great characters coming back, its something it should exploit fully. im looking back to it going back to the brilliance of the old days without resorting to the storylines of the old days! :cheer:

Wooooooooooooooo I Met Him In True Life!!!! He Was Filming For Itv And He Shook My Hand And Had A Joke With Us . He Is Real Nice
Me too. I think it may just be a rumour at this satge. Once it's announced on the EE website them I'll believe it.
I hope it's true - I think Grant was really exciting character, just what EE needs.
Uuh this thread is one reason not to believe next to nothing in the newspapers! :D
This thread has gone a little off topic I think! :nono:

ok thanks rach
Good maybe he can put a spanner in the works for Sharon and Dennis
Really looking forward to seeing Grant back. Hopefully they wont try to rehash the same storylines and give him something new - I do think, like others, there will be tension between him and Dennis, as its been said, Sharon was the love of his life and even if there is no going back for them, he still wont be that cheery towards Dennis!

Bring Back Danny Moon Instead He@s So Much Better
The Mitchells are probably the only thing that could save EE now! Hope they all come back, can't wait to see them all re-united again - Peggy, Phil, Grant, Sam, Billy...maybe even Kate or Lisa & Lou!

REMEMBER they can't come back as if JAKE and DANNY MOON are classed as GANGSTERS then so it the Mitchell clan, they've been invovled in more dodgy scams/deals and with the police then anyone else in the square put together.
and plus they're a crap family, Sam's leaving in november, and what are the Mitchell's with out a home or business? what they guna do move in to Tina's old flat? haha THAT I WOULD TUNED IN TOO SEE
That is the best news.
Can't wait :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Yeh nothing has been confirmed although i'd love this to happen. The source seems to be the mirror but if it does happen the sun are far more likely to run the correct story as ross' wife efits the sun.
I really can't imagine Grant back in the square!! So much has changed since he was there...
Wonder what age Courteney is now? :hmm:
I think she was born in 1997 but I'm not sure so that will make her about eight ish I think
