DC Zain Nadir (TJ Ramini) and DS Sam Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) are anxious to convince nervous witness, Chez Williams (Justin Pickett), to testify in court in a high profile drug case. The defendant, Damon Kerr (Neal Barry), is the last member of a drugs gang to face prison following an undercover operation involving Zain. Chez eventually agrees to give evidence but when the presiding judge (Daniel Hill), is arrested by Superintendent Adam Okaro (Cyril Nri) for drink driving, the case is placed in jeopardy. Things take a further turn for the worse when Chez is shot down in the street outside the court. It’s clear that Chez’s shooter is linked to Damon Kerr, so Zain makes it his mission to find the gunman. But how far will he go to secure a conviction?

PC’s Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Honey Harman (Kim Tiddy) work together on a scam involving stolen cars and a dodgy valet car park. Will persuades Honey to bend the rules a little and with the help of security guard, Dave Thomas (Terry Alderton), they get their result.

Meanwhile, PC Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) is troubled when his sister calls and says she can no longer cope with caring for their father. She asks Tony to break the news to him that he has to go into a care home. When he visits his dad, Norman (John Woodvine), in hospital, Tony gets a frosty reception but his father eventually agrees to go into a home. Tony makes a promise to find him a nice one but how will he come up with the cash?

It’s Christmas Eve and PC Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) plays a trick on PC Dan Casper (Chris Jarvis). He tells Dan that, at the request of Inspector Gina Gold (Roberta Taylor), he has to start a charity collection dressed up as Santa. But the prank backfires when Gina hears about it – she gets her own back and Tony ends up the butt of the festive joke.

DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) is preparing to collect his brother, Ben (Joe Caffrey), who is being released from prison later that day. But Terry’s annoyed when he discovers that his sister-in-law, Lucy (Lisa Stevenson), hasn’t told Bradley (Dane Carter) about his father’s release and insists that they break the news to him. However, Bradley reacts badly, angry that he is not allowed to see his father until his counselling sessions are complete and he blames himself for putting him inside.

Meanwhile, PC Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and PC Honey Harman (Kim Tiddy) become involved in a case of a homeless man, Lenny Bartle (Joe Armstrong), who has been kicked out of all the local shelters for being disruptive. Soft-hearted Will takes pity on him and he goes out of his way to try and get him off the streets for Christmas. While attempting to trace his family, Will and Honey discover that Lenny is a former soldier who served in Iraq - he also has a wife who has reported him missing. Determined to reunite Lenny with his family, Will must first discover why he is so reluctant to go home…

Elsewhere, Terry investigates what appears to be a straight-forward assault when an office dispute gets out of hand. The perpetrator, Gavin Murray (Blake Ritson), admits to the attack but he claims he was the victim of an assault himself – a sexual assault and the person he’s accusing is his female boss, Nicci Villers (Clare Calbraith).

In the pub, at the end of the shift, PC Yvonne Hemmingway (Michele Austin) quizzes Honey about Will and asks if she is interested in him as he seems to be her type. Will, meanwhile, tells PC Dan Casper (Chris Jarvis) that Honey turned him down for a drink. But Honey’s lack of interest is soon explained when Dan fills Will in on her past.

And DCI Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) is shocked when his drug-dealing son, Benjamin, is given a harsher sentence than expected. And Terry is surprised when a panicked Lucy turns up at the pub with bad news about Bradley…

DS Ramani De Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) and DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) frantically hunt for his missing nephew, Bradley (Dane Carter). They get the worse kind of lead when he is spotted on CCTV with a known pimp and crack dealer, Marshall Mackenzie (Rasmus Hardiker). They arrest Marshall but the trail runs cold when he tells them that Bradley has already run off. Their search eventually takes them to an ice-rink where Bradley is spotted with his dad, Ben (Joe Caffrey). But Terry soon has to face up to the consequences of his relationship with his sister-in-law, Lucy (Lisa Stevenson), when Bradley reveals to Ben that Terry has been sleeping with his mother. Terry’s love-life is further complicated when he starts to realise he has feelings for Ramani…

Meanwhile, DS Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) is given details about a big delivery of Ecstasy by one of his informants, Brian Soames (Peter Temple). The drug consignment is due to be made by a known ecstasy wholesaler in time for the New Year revellers and Phil persuades DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) to work with him over Christmas on the case. However, the bust doesn’t go to plan when armed robbers steal the drugs from the flat they were delivered to and it turns out that one of the perpetrators is Brian’s nephew…

Elsewhere, Superintendent Adam Okaro (Cyril Nri) is dealing with his first Christmas without his family and PC Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart) investigates the case of the missing Three Wise Men when a thief steals from the nativity display at the local church.
