Tom Cruise has reportedly splashed out on his own ultrasound machine - so he can watch his baby with Katie Holmes growing in the womb.

The Hollywood heavyweight is said to regularly scan Katie's tummy so the smitten pair can see their first child developing.

The 43-year-old actor - who has two adopted children with first wife Nicole Kidman - told US talk show host Barbara Walters: "I bought a sonogram machine. I am going to donate it to a hospital when we are done"

The 'War of the Worlds' star also insisted he and Katie - who plan to tie the knot next year - don't know their baby's sex.

He said: "I don't know. I just see a baby"

Meanwhile, the couple have allegedly decided their baby will be the ring-bearer at their nuptials. The couple allegedly postponed their wedding because they are desperate for the tot to be involved in their special day.

A source is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "There's no way he's letting his first biological child miss his wedding. It will be a celebration not only of their love, but of their new family And knowing Tom, it'll be a big celebration"

Oh dear me - I know its exciting for everyone, but isn't this taking it a bit too far, and getting slightly obsessive......

I think it's cool and if he can afford it then it must be great to be able to see his baby developing without having to go to the hospital!

True, but its not fully understood on how the scans may affect the unborn child, hence why you don't have very many - just the absolute necessary. Great if you can afford it, and if you are donating it, as he is, but does this all work in line with his scientology beliefs?? But hey, each to their own (though I still think its a tad on the wierd side :D )

That's sweet him wanting to see the baby that much but that is just so wrong buying a machine. I would say a little bit to far.
