The NUS Extra is valid between 01 September 2008 and 30 September 2009 so there’s loads of time to save cash with your card. The website says nothing about applying before September so I suppose you can apply now to get it in time.

I think you can have both cards, you just can't use them at the same time. I had a connexions and a UCAS card at the same time.

i dunno when you can get them from, i think probably when you start 6th form. i think the nus card is £10 and im sure my sis said that her ucas card was free but i think you only get it after applying through ucas but im not sure

NUS, get it when you start school, mine is the NUSassociate one - specific for sixth form students and it cost be £7 - but WELL worth it, saved LOADS.
And my UCAS card was free, just go on the website;
http://www.ucas.com/ucascard/
Register and get it sent to you :) Its good for a freebie - gets you discount on play.com and i got a free orange sim card with mine :)

I don't think i've ever used the UCAS card i got. But the NUS card is fab, i use that all the time.

.:SpIcYsPy:.

I see the NUS everywhere and then when I went out with one of my fam friends she had a UCAS card and it's similar principles but free! She never heard of the NUS card

There's a number on their site to allow you to find out your school's UCAS number :)

i never got a ucas card, not sure if its a recently new thing or not? my sis has only used hers once i think, she tried to use it in superdrug cos they dont accept nus cards and they told her she had to spend over £10 before she could get a discount

NUS cards i think are more accepted than UCAS cards, and NUS cards have pictures so they know its you.
I persume you can apply now :)

I'd recommend getting both :) You are then guarenteed discount!

On that website it says the deadline for Year 12 is 31st August... doesn't that mean those who have just finished AS? Aren't I still classed as Year 11 until 1st September?

Layne
22-08-2008, 16:00
Urm, well i'd class you as Year 12's but i dont know, so maybe you might be better waiting till 1st September ?!
I sent mine off late, so i don't know when you can first start applying!

di marco

i think it would still be ok if you wait til you go back to school, my sis didnt get hers til about the march of yr12

My NUS card is worth it just to get the discounts in Topman, where i spend half my money!

a lot of places just accept your standard security student card as proof of being a student but a few places demand NUS so it's worth paying the tenner for really

How did you get hold of your NUS card Bryan? I went on the NUS extra website link that's further up the page and my school isn't on it.

if your school isnt on the website then when you go back to school ask the head of sixth form if they have a form you can fill out for one and then send it off

i didn't know you could get them for college :searchme: mind you it's been two years now so i cant remember if i had one then or not!

if your school isn't listed then they probably haven't got a student union. just say you're from another college, they dont check up these things so you'll be alright.

Abbie

I must have a different card to you lot
At my college we have an ID card, with our own college ID number that we use to log in on the computers, and then obviously our names and photos, thats the card I use to get discounts

i couldnt get them when i was at school but my sis has had one for her 2yrs of sixth form so i think theyve just started

also, dont write another college down cos they send the card to the college to make sure youre a student so that wouldnt be a good idea!

yeh you can use your own college/uni student card, but the nus card is like a national student card which any student can apply for and its the same for everyone, cos some shops will only accept nus cards rather than individual student cards

Don't bother getting anything untill you go back to college/school. They will get the forms in soon enough. And you need a stamp on it, so theres no point doing it on the internet.

You can get an NUS card at college, because NUS is an external union which you are joining, so it doesn't matter if you have an internal union or not. Just wait till the forms get into your school, get it stamped and fill in your info. Its much easy than jumping the gun doing it early.

I was in republic on Saturday and saw a sign that said they give 10% discount with an NUS card. I didn't see that listed further up so I thought I'd add it in.

Most high street stores offer a discount, you just have to ask. I can't think of one major retailer that has refused me a discount.

i love how topman does, it's worth getting my NUS card just for the sake of the amount i spend, and eventually save from that shop

i'm sure river island doesnt give me discount, as i never show my card in there now, and i'm sure it's becuase they told me they dont give discount

tbf i think everywhere should give student discount by law, the ridiculous prices they charge for everything!
