Is anyone else getting sick of the constant personality transplants that characters in EastEnders seem to go through and have gone through?
Case one: Johnny Allen
First he was the gangland boss who killed Andy Hunter in cold blood, then he was the domesticated family man, then he was the guy who trapped an old lady's fingers in a door and told his daughter that he would "break her if he had to", then he was the guy who acted as the pathetic wuss, wailing in the street after Ruby, then he was the guy who was pointing a gun at Phil and Grant, then he was the guy who went to a 17 year-old girl's birthday party. No wonder Billy Murray wanted to leave. I would too if I had to put up with Johnny's schizophrenic personality.
Case two: Maureen 'Little Mo' Mitchell
Although the character in question seems to have disappeared (hopefully into a big, black hole), her personality transplant has caused many a viewer to attempt to scratch their own eyes out in order to stop the torture, I know I did. How could a character who stayed so loyal to Trevor, a husband that abused and raped her, decide a few years later that loyalty means nothing, and that it was fine and dandy to have a relationship with her sister's husband. After choosing Freddie over Billy, her own husband, how could family suddenly mean so little to Little Mo?
Case three: Alfie Moon
How did this character get from chirpy, cheeky chappy, to miserable loser who messed two women around? First he wanted Kat, then Mo, then Kat, then Mo, then Kat, but he only realised he wanted Kat after he heard her attempt at singing, whilst drunk, on the back of a truck. I guess that is true love for you, eh?
Case four: Chrissie Watts
Was she evil? Did she feel guilty? Did she like Sharon or did she hate her as "the other woman in Den's life?" Who knows? One minute I'm thinking she hates Sharon for being the only person Den ever really loved, the next I'm thinking she likes Sharon and wants to be her friend. That curly hair of hers must have affected her personality as well.
Case five: Den Watts
Ladies man to dirty pervert who sleeps with his son's girlfriend. Strong love for adopted daugher Sharon in the 1980's turns into incest-like love for adopted daughter Sharon. Chancer and ladies man, who used to treat his women badly, but always loved his kids to man who torments his own son about his past.
I'm sure there are many more examples like the ones above. I really think these constant personality transplants need to be stopped. The best storylines in the world won't work if the character(s) in question keep having monthly, weekly, and sometimes even daily personality transplants.
