Is anyone else getting sick of the constant personality transplants that characters in EastEnders seem to go through and have gone through?

Case one: Johnny Allen

First he was the gangland boss who killed Andy Hunter in cold blood, then he was the domesticated family man, then he was the guy who trapped an old lady's fingers in a door and told his daughter that he would "break her if he had to", then he was the guy who acted as the pathetic wuss, wailing in the street after Ruby, then he was the guy who was pointing a gun at Phil and Grant, then he was the guy who went to a 17 year-old girl's birthday party. No wonder Billy Murray wanted to leave. I would too if I had to put up with Johnny's schizophrenic personality.

Case two: Maureen 'Little Mo' Mitchell

Although the character in question seems to have disappeared (hopefully into a big, black hole), her personality transplant has caused many a viewer to attempt to scratch their own eyes out in order to stop the torture, I know I did. How could a character who stayed so loyal to Trevor, a husband that abused and raped her, decide a few years later that loyalty means nothing, and that it was fine and dandy to have a relationship with her sister's husband. After choosing Freddie over Billy, her own husband, how could family suddenly mean so little to Little Mo?

Case three: Alfie Moon

How did this character get from chirpy, cheeky chappy, to miserable loser who messed two women around? First he wanted Kat, then Mo, then Kat, then Mo, then Kat, but he only realised he wanted Kat after he heard her attempt at singing, whilst drunk, on the back of a truck. I guess that is true love for you, eh?

Case four: Chrissie Watts

Was she evil? Did she feel guilty? Did she like Sharon or did she hate her as "the other woman in Den's life?" Who knows? One minute I'm thinking she hates Sharon for being the only person Den ever really loved, the next I'm thinking she likes Sharon and wants to be her friend. That curly hair of hers must have affected her personality as well.

Case five: Den Watts

Ladies man to dirty pervert who sleeps with his son's girlfriend. Strong love for adopted daugher Sharon in the 1980's turns into incest-like love for adopted daughter Sharon. Chancer and ladies man, who used to treat his women badly, but always loved his kids to man who torments his own son about his past.

I'm sure there are many more examples like the ones above. I really think these constant personality transplants need to be stopped. The best storylines in the world won't work if the character(s) in question keep having monthly, weekly, and sometimes even daily personality transplants.

I 100% Agree about Jonny Allen, it's getting ridiculous! what the hell are they playing at with this character, i wish they'd make their mind up. Maybe theyre trying to give the character different layers but it's not working at all,This domestic stuff with ruby etc undermines him being a proper gangster/villain or whatever he's meant to be. He was brilliant a couple weeks ago i thought though :(

I guess little mo's character had to evolve after the whole trevor thing, and the graham. Maybe they wanted to show a stronger side to Mo but I don't feel it worked.

Also I agree about alfie, it's kinda sad what's happened to him. He was so much more fun when he first came he had a bit of an edge but now he's a coward who never has the guts to tell anybody anything and spends all his time with nana.

I think Chrissie is a 3 dimensional character. She probly does feel guilty about everything and regrets what happened but at the same time she's cunning out for herself and desperately didn't want to be caught and face up to what she did.

I think part of resents sharon for being the only person that Den loved but I don't think theres a deep hatred for her and I don't think Chrissie ever intended to or took any pleasure in hurting sharon. I think Chrissie genuinely liked being a part of Dens family when they were all together sharon, dennis, vicky and maybe misses that.

I don't know what Den was really like before he returned.

yes i totaly agree with you,i think ee decide to turn us against certain charectors,so we wont complain when they go,or turn nasty charectors into saints,ee have allways done this but they used to do it slowly so you didn't notice unless you happenn to watch an old episode, whereas now they think we've got the memory of a budgie and change personalitys on a monthly basis, this problems got worse in the lasy 12 months

I do agree that they are trying to give Johnny different layers, to give him more depth, but you are right, _lil_hunni, it is just not working. To me, if just feels like they change him to suit the current storyline i.e the Mitchells coming back. I think you are right callummc, I have no doubts that Johnny will be turned evil again in the months leading to his exit, in the hope that viewers will be glad he is leaving. Well, not this viewer. I don't have the memory of a budgie, as you put it, I remember the Johnny we saw when he first arrived and he should have stayed that way.

I agree that they may have wanted to show a stronger side of Little Mo but they made her into a lying, cheating cow. Characters can be strong without being made bitchy. Little Mo lost all her morals in those months of the dreaded storyline, and I found myself wondering where the real Little Mo was. Anyway, we already knew she was strong when she stood up to Trevor, reported Graham and kept Freddie.

email this lot to the writers and producers of EE, since it has more changes than a baby with dirty nappies.
about time they went back to the tried and trusted way of changing characters over time rather than more times than the Mitchells have had arguements.

It always been the same with ee they introduce all these new supposingly gangsters to the show and they don't keep it up they turn them into wimps and good guys after they have been in the programme a while. They did it with grunt, phil and billy it's pathetic. The only bad guy in ee who has remained evil is nick cotton

Johnny Allen has just become a joke, if you ask me EE made the biggest mistake when they allowed him to have a lover and a daughter, if he had been a single buisnessman then it would have been fine but with a daughter he's got to come across as nice some of the time. The scene's he shares with Ruby are laughable, one minute she hates him then she loves him, make your mind up, why can't Johnny Allen just be evil throughout?

I am hoping that Jonny Allen will go back to being a nasty character

They also did it with Barry, who turned from a bit of a thug with underworld connections in to a buffoon and Minty, who was also a bit of a thug in to a loveable cuddly character.

Trevor also remained a bad guy as well as Nick.

Yeah, Trevor and Nick were both pretty consistent. Billy's personality transplant can be explained in some way as we did learn about why he was like he was (i.e what happened to him in the care home etc), and it was done over many years. Phil and Grant were never Johnny Allen-type gangsters. Phil's personality change came about when Grant left, as the writers took some of Grants personality and put it in Phil.

If they were going to have Johnny ALlen with a daughter, then they should've had the 'home' life person who was nice when she was around. THen the hard business man who kept his associates on their toes, not flit him from one side too the other like a ping pong ball.
Like he was when he first came, hard but knew what he wanted without having to use too much force. The use of force was for those who crossed him, or tried pushing him around like wannabe Andy.

Another personality transplant patient was Laura Beale. She used to be a nice girl, then she turned into the wife from hell and a right bitch.

Also Jim used to be a racist (he did not like Carol marrying Alan) and now he is best friends with Patrick.

Lisa Shaw is another one. She was independent and fiesty and then she was turned into a miserable wreck.

Ian made her that way... he slept with a Janine and degraded Laura a lot

Again a man did this to her, she got involved with Tricky Dicky and then off all people Phil Mitchell
