'Coronation Street' bosses have planned a shocking storyline about underage sex.
Viewers will see teenagers Rosie Webster and Craig Harris - played by Helen Flanagan and Richard Fleeshman - get intimate after Rosie decides she wants to lose her virginity.
After months of dating, the couple will end up between the sheets as Rosie approaches her 15th birthday on Christmas Eve.
Show producers say the sensitive subject will be treated sensitively.
A spokesman for the programme told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "The storyline is being taken very seriously and will be handled responsibly by the team."
A show insider also revealed TV bosses hope the plot won't attract complaints.
The source said: "We're hoping that complaints will be a minimum because the storyline is not sensational - it is very valid. "Many youngsters nowadays do not wait for the official age of consent and this storyline will mirror the real-life situation when teenagers cannot restrain their desires for sex."We'd stress that Rosie and Craig are not promiscuous. They have been boyfriend and girlfriend for ages and they want to take their loving relationship a crucial step further."
