I was just wondering what age you had your first alcoholic drink, I was 14, but my son who said he would never drink, was encouraged to try yesterday,he had 4 archers with 2 shots in each,1 glass of wine,2 southern comforts, and 4 glasses of champagne, at his bosses funeral, got headache today. He waited till he was 21. So what age were you.

oK.. not going to believe this but I was drunk at 5 years old.. My mum and Dad got champagne for christmas when I was younger and been a child I got my hands of a glass of it and you can guess the rest..

My mum and dad were ok about us drinking in the house as teenagers, they said it was better then us drinking on the street, at least if we were going to try alcohol, we might as well be in a safe place..

I dunno if I want to admit to this!!!

Basically, I was brought up that alcohol was no big think and every xmas i would have a 4 pack of babycham bought for me - as soon as it was gone, that was that, so I learnt to be pretty sensible from a young age - I was probably about 13/14 but couldn't tell you for definite. It did stop me from going out and being completely stupid when I was a bit older (except for 2 or 3 times, which is still vividly remember!!)

I am currently using the same tactic with my eldest - if he wants to try some wine with his sunday meal, i will allow him, but most of the time, he says its disgusting and doesn't want any. He doesn't want beer or anything else either (though I am sure he will when he gets a bit older!!)

my parents were the same... it made us drink very sensibly most of the time (everyone has there moments)... I think, like you, I would let my kids try it a home when they are older.. better than drinking in a field or on the streets where anything could happen

i was about 10, my son is the same age now and i always let him try a bit of whatever i am drinking. i try not to make it a tabboo subject so he does not go mad, my mum did the same for me and it worked.

I cant really remember so i said 14. But thinking about it i think i was younger than that. My mum doesnt mind us drinking under age, as long as were sensible. She'd rather us drinking in the house where she can keep an eye on us and there's less chance of them ebing spiked and mixed and getting totaly drunk and doing all sorts of things than drinking on the streets and getting into trouble. I think ive only beend drunk a couple of times and they have been at partys not just roming the streets or sat at home. If i do have a drink i dont go over board or anything i just have the odd one everynow and again unless im at partys and things then i have to admit i might get a bit carried away. (But who doesnt!) I remeber last new year my dad and his mate were actually encouraging me to drink more and i was already drunk! (So were they) lol

But i think i was actually about 13 maybe younger. Not sure :hmm:

I said 16 when i got really really drunk i couldnt remember anything, and was really sick the next day. It wasnt pleasent now i have small amounts whenever i go out, i never want to get so drunk that i throw up again, i have decided i need to learn how to drink in moderation.

i think i tried wine when i was about 14 with the roast on sunday.only ever frank a great amount once and got drunk and i was about 18 i think and never again! its a waste of money and pointless,i didnt enjoy myself anymore it just up selt me and other people as i spoke the truth to everyone that night and told them what i really thought of them.id never do it again as i dont see the point,i can have a good time without the drink.

I was probably about 16 when I first remember drinking (strongbow ugh).

Now I quite happily go out for a few drinks without getting drunk, just a social thing.

I dont ever set out to go out and get drunk, its more of a social thing and if I end up having a few too many wine's then so be it!

i cant remember when i first had alcohol, i was quite young. my mum used to let me have some at home on special occassions, my mum and dad dont really drink so thats the only time theres ever alcohol in the house, like xmas. my mums auntie always has parties for some anniversary or another and so i have some up there, nearly everyone else was always drunk anyway so no one minded, wedding swere always the best though when i was younger, so much alcohol lol and everyone being drunk and wanting to have a good time!

i agree with you chance- people at school only think you can have fun with a drink, but i think you have a hell of a lot more fun without being drunk- and you can remember what happened aswell!

I am surprised by how many 13 and under drinkers there are, my son certainly has left it late to try alcohol, at 21. I drank alot years age when I was 15, but dont bother now, I can enjoy myself just as much with out and no hang over.

good on you , it is always good to be strong enough not to do what others expect you to do.
i had my first drink around 16, with college friends but dont drink now and certainly dont miss it.

I think as the older or should I say more mature you get, the less alcohol actually bothers you and you realise getting drunk every weekend, isn't all its cracked up to be. I treat myself to a glass every fortnight, the same as I always have, but its very rare (when I am not pregnant) that I go overboard and get drunk...

i dont like going out and getting drunk every weekend, my mates are always skint cos of it and ive got better things to do! i dont like pubs and sitting on a street corner in the cold and wet isnt my idea of fun! if im at a party its ok depending on what sort of party, parties in halls arent too bad, but if its a party at someones house i dont really get drunk, theres been some things that have happened at mates parties that i dont want to happen

I was 15 because it was my works christmas do and I was the only boy there (the other 2 men were quite old) and the girls I was sitting with were challenging me to drinking competitions.

clubs arent that bad, i just dont like the atmosphere and stuff in pubs, some of my mates used to go down the pubs on friday nights and i just didnt bother. and i also dont see the point of getting drunk every week, im skint enough as it is, i dont want to be permanently skint cos ive spent all my money on drink. as i said, i dont mind drinking at parties and stuff but depending where i am, will depend on how much i drink, as situations at some places have happened before that i dont want to happen again, and things have happened to my friends that i dont want to happen to me
