Will Thorp, who plays Woody, is leaving Casualty in an explosive storyline at the end of the year.

BBC Publicity confirmed, "Woody's contract hasn't been terminated due to his character being unpopular. As with any long running series, characters come and go and the character of Woody has reached the end of his natural life on the show.'

Will joined the show only last December and his imminent departure promises to be just as dramatic. Publicity said, 'Will's leaving Casualty in explosive style in the Christmas special. He's been a great contributor to the show and has a fantastic exit storyline.'

I think its a shame that they are not letting him stay for the whole series.

He has the potential to be a great character given time to develop, but right now he just seems a little....wooden for want of a better word.
