View Full Version : Do hoody's equal thugs?
Its featured on the news a lot about groups of thugs wearing hoodys
hoodys have also been banned from some public places, as people are "uncomfortable" with people wearing them
do you agree?
Do you think that if a group of people are wearing hoody's are automatically thugs?
:)
I think its unfair to sterotype people. I wear jackets with Hoodys, which are teachniqually hoodys, but that doesn't make me a thug. It annoys me when people do that.
Hoddies have been worn for years and years. I wear them and so does my boyfriend and nither of us are thugs. We do call them our ASBO tops though.
I dont think people would look any less intimidating without them, I find large groups of kids hanging aroud the streets intimidating, with or without hoodies they would just wear hats anyway.

me and my mates always wear hoodies!!! and we aint thugs!! so i dont agree with it.
why is it that all these grumpy old men on the tele all stereotype us then? Loads of perfectly ( hmmm :D ) people wear them. They're so irritating
it pee's me off when all these kids/teenagers constantly have these hoods up though even when the suns up.i can totally understand why the elderly etc would feel intimidated by people wearing them but also it is unfair to judge a book by its cover as they say....
blimey connor is a thug!! i love him in hoody tops!

i wear hoodies but im not a thug i think you can suspect people when it is late and there are old people in a shop and teenagers keep looking in the shop window with black hoddies on and smoking thats when you can suspect thugs

yeah i agree. i mean i am a teenager and everything but i dont get why kids where hoods when it aint cold or raining. i think thye think it makes them look harder ect by having them up. i can see why people get intimidated by them but i think it would be the same in what ever they were. its just that they were them so its what they see them in (am i making sense) if they didnt wear them but somethign else people would complaine about them. its not what they're wearing its whoes inside them.
not everyone who wears hoddies are thugs ect. but i agree a lot of them are. i dont think people should sterotype but its hard when so many thugged teens wear them. i can completly see why people are intimidated by them but again why others are annoyed that they are judged for wearng them.

I am no teenager but I do wear hoody's at the weekend when not working. my nieces wear them and they are no thugs but i can understand why some people do get frightened when they see gangs wearing them but i think they would still be scared what ever they where wearing
ti am definatly not a teenager and nor is my 10 yr old son but we both wear hoodys, but i can see where the argument is coming from i get people coming in my shop and you can't see thier faces and i really hate that!!!

I don't wear hoody's much but sometimes people do scare me when they are in a big group with hoody's!!
I can understand where people come from with it, but I feel intimidated by groups of people whether they are wearing hoodies or not - everyone seems soooo much taller than me and that worries me.
I really don't like people who make automatic assumptions about people because of how they look - I suffer with enough of that at the mo, with having the 2 boys, being pregnant and looking a lot younger than I am!!! My eldest is almost 12 and he wears hoodies sometimes, and he is the softest lad going!! He's more like to carry someones bag for them than nick it!! Like others have said though, I do find it weird why they feel they have to wear the hoods up when its really hot, and then walk around staring at the floor aswell so you can't see their face but there still isn't a need to stereotype them...
i wear hoodies, but not with the hood up. when me and my friend went shopping once, there were these security guys following us... WE AREN'T ALL THUGS!!

i wear hoodies and i'm far from a thug!!It is intimidating when there are large groups of guys all with their hoods up but we're not all like that. You get older folks giving you cold stares and stuff just coz of the fact your wearing a black hoodie. Mine usually have band names on them anyway, i dont see why we should get the same treatment if we haven't ( and aren't planning) on doing anything wrong!!
i have green ones, and i still get looked a scance at
They're very handy actually. I was caught out in the rain earlier, so i stuck me hood up. Yeah i looked like an elf, but my hair didn't get wet!!
If it wasnt hoodies, it would be hats!
yeah, they are. topshop do fleecy ones aswell. ah well, i will be a thug for this winter then... i can understand why older people hate large gorups of people with black hoodies on at night, but why at any time

Some hoddies can look nice, But then again they give off the impression that your looking for a reason to hide your face, meaning your looking for trouble.. If i was out and i saw a gang of 'hoodies' i would'nt go their way if you know what i mean..
same here, i wouldn't. the scallies in my area are evil

Its not just the fact that these people wear hoodies that is threatening, it is the way that they wear them and what they do whem they wear them. Banning hoodies won't make any difference - the people you want to avoid will still be about, just wearing different clothes?
blimey connor is a thug!! i love him in hoody tops!
lol.does he go around with the hood up the entire time he has it on though?
the kids around my area all wear baseball caps with hoods on top, that bugs me too.

and there trousers tucked into their socks? we have loads who do that round here, it looks so stupid, why do they need a hood and a baseball cap?

probly cause they think it makes them look cool! lol
Thing is - if people weren't complaining about people wearing hoodies, they be moaning about the way other items of clothing are worn - some people just need something to moan about!

why do they need a hood and a baseball cap?
Lmao good question!! I see some like that and Im like?! What?! :searchme:
I am 40 and I wore a hooded sweatshirt when I was a teenager - they are not new.
I think that in shopping centres and other indoor places people shouldn't wear their hoods up (unless the heating is off and it is freezing!).
I also think it is ridiculous to say that people who wear hooded tops are thug! I have 2 boys, and it is almost impossible to buy cool tops that don't have hoods for them
it pee's me off when all these kids/teenagers constantly have these hoods up though even when the suns up.i can totally understand why the elderly etc would feel intimidated by people wearing them but also it is unfair to judge a book by its cover as they say....

My dad said that thugs and yobs wear hoodies when i was sat there in one. when i pointed it out he was just like "yes well that's different isn't it". He couldn't take it that he was being judgemental.
Saying that it does give people the opportunity to hide their faces from CCTV so i might not be completely at ease if i was on my own at night and there was a young man in a hoodie near me. but would i be happy if he wasn't in a hoodie? i don't know.
ok you can ignore me i'm just arguing with myself!

i sometimes weear my hood up when its sunny! it keeps me cool!!
and it would be no different walking past a man in a hoody or a man without...the man without might be a thug like ya no! clothes have nothing to do with what someone is like inside!! <<< my opinions

i cant stand judgementle people! people crack me up tho they stop there car just to call me "scum" or "grunger" or they sometimes say "get a hair cut" now that cracks me up! i just laugh at them and tell them to go away! well i dont say that but im not aloud to swear on here so guess u can kinda guess what i said lol
I'm 20 10 (code for 30) and a lot of the tops i wear have hoods on them. I think it's basically the way you wear them. Like a lot of you have said, if it's just walking round the streets there's no problem. Meet up with your friends and put the hood up "instant thug" My son wears them when he goes skating because they're big enough to put his pads under. Not everyone who wears a hoodie is out to commit a crime. Stereotyping should be a crime!!
i am about the same age rain and i wear a lot of hooded tops too, but i don't usually put them up as they mess my hair up!!! my son wears loads to as they are nice and warm!! i do worry when he crosses the road though as he does seem blinkered.
i work in a shop and as we are a off licence we don't have a lot of young people in, it doed scare me a bit when you can't see someones face. i don't think we can bung everyone in a catorgory and say oohhh hoody they must be a thug!!
i have a hoodie but i am scared to where it
