i dont think i would have been that bothered about it if my son hadnt of been in the room,i know there are gay couples out there and its going to be shown on tv etc but i just thought it was on rather early thats all.id prefer my children not to see it thats all,as i said if it were a man and women snogging away i would have turned it over too.

personally i think that you should start telling them all about it as soon as they can talk and understand but thats my opinion
oh my son knows about gays,i just dont want him seeing them snogging thats all.i didnt tell him about it out of choice though,he did see two blokes kiss one day and asked me why so i kind of had to explain

i think it is too early at three to be discussing sex, relationships and gay peopel with my son!! when he a few years older maybe. i dont realy want him watching stuff like that on tellly at this age either!! i mean i wouldnt let him watch a straight couple snoggin on abed either!

It was quite early to be showing people kissing on a bed (gay or not), there are ways and means of insuating what went on without actually showing it in full

i think what she means ,well its how i took it anyway was that if they see gays kissing it may inspire them to be gay when they arew older which is fine but i would obviously prefer it if my sons were straight but what will be will be.
came out a bit weird and wrong but im sure i will get corrected but you get the gist of what i mean i hope anyway :)

But the whole point they cant be "inspired" to be gay. It's the way you feel. You dont choose to be gay.

And also (maybe) if you try to explain (and I cant imagen trying to explain to a 3 year old) about relationships and they repeate it to their friends, although you might find that acceptable their friends pearents if they repeate it might not think its acceptable. If that makes any sense at all???????

Must bequite difficult for pearents what age to tell kids things especially if circumstances out of your control dictate otherwise like Emerdale and the other soaps

I don't mean to start ranting lol but here I go (not picking on anyone btw and im speaking generally, aware there are other arguments and exceptions)

It might sound extreme to some people but I think homophobic comments or what can be interpretated as homophobic behaviour is just as bad as racism.

I can understand some of various parents opinions on here - apart from that people can be 'influenced' to be gay, it can easily be argued back we're brainwashed into 'heterosexual norms and values' more easily than the other way. In that respect, some people seem to have a 'passive audience' frame of mind i.e. monkey see monkey do, children will see something on TV and copy it (in which case Eastenders viewers must all be gangsters!)

It seems odd to me that people may complain about two men kissing or something, but being subjected to viewing scenes of violence, bullying, crime etc. is 'less of a taboo'. Take corrie - there was 'more of a hoohaa' over a gay kiss than there was of richard hillman killing a number of people.

I think that when they do sex education in schools they should educate also a bit more about homosexual relationships (because they tend to focus on the emotions of hetero relationships, and girls decisions regarding pregnancy). There was some of my friends who basically thought 'well sex ed is useless to me because how does it apply to me?'. By then many people have some idea of their sexual orientation or experimenting and there are teens out there with v. little support, information etc.

I do agree with what you are saying to a degree, but some people (not necessarily on these boards, but in general) its not about being homophobic, it more down to being ignorant about relationships other than hetrosexual.

I must admit I dont see what the big deal is with a gay kiss, but in tonights Emmerdale it was slightly more, and also shown early in the evening. Alot of people have said if it was a straight couple doing the same sort of thing, they would turn it over if their children are in the room.

you can wrap it up anyway you want, bottom line is i dont want to see two grown men snogging before the water shed.you talking about it being as bad as racism, but its no where near the mark,i dont want my children being educated about it at school, fair enough if you do but imoi dont want my children being taught about it.I dont want it being shown on tv at this time of night for my child to see and go to school and discuss it or kiss his mate thinking its ok to do so.
my son knows right from wrong, that he shouldnt murder someone or do gangster things but when it comes to sexual things the mind can be confused i think.i dont think you have any children im assuming... hope ive made sense and not offended you, just my opinion :)

paul did his thelma louise act and rodney was cringing as he was singing a song about his dad, ivan thought he was winding him up so he fled to the toilets in anger.they had a argument and ivan asked why its so hard for paul to just keep there relationship private etc and can he try to understand, paul still had his mic on and the whole pub heard ivan admit hes gay.ivan shouted at paul that he got what he wanted now,and stormed out, paul ran after him to say sorry but ivan told him to not go near him ever again.

Loving Emmerdale especially the King stuff and Paul and Ivan. Aww Poor Matt and Poor Paul. Ivan needs to face up to the truth he can't call Paul his boyfriend one minute and then freeze him out the next. Ivan needs to decide what is he wants, for both his and Paul's sake.

Matt chose business over love, surely if Saide really was the love of his life he wouldn't of let anything or anyone come between them? Luckily for us he did otherwise Matt would of left with Saide and that wouldn't of been good at all! I love it when he's being a B'd Matt really is at his best then. At the same time I do like seeing the rare soft and fluffy side to his character, not forgetting of course his witty/sarcy comments/digs that he chucks into conversation every now and then.

As much as i am liking the Ivan and Paul storyline, I love the Turner/Steph/Terrence storyline at the moment. It seems very interesting and i can't wait for the story to develop further :)

Richie_lecturer
05-01-2006, 18:54
It's difficult for us oldies not to think about the original Terrence from the Emmerdale Farm days and the lovely clarinet theme tune DAR DAR DEE DARR, DARR DAR.... This is going back about 20 years. I remember Terrence as an Oxbridge student IIRC and had a rather posh accent. I know the original Terrence was only in it for a very brief period during Turner's early days when he was at Home Farm, but it's going to be a bit difficult to get round this new Terrence who has a broader accent and is 10 years older!

Cherryz
05-01-2006, 20:20
I can't stand the character of Turner, he's just so vile and bland and the way he treats Steph etc. - he seems to think he's this great father but I don't think he is; stubborn and thinking he's right all the time etc. just urgh.

As for Ivan and Paul - I felt sorry for them both tonight; Ivan's struggling to accept his feelings and everyone's opinions of him, and Paul wanting things to work out and making all that effort... bless them.

I'm actually beginning to find Kelly less annoying lol.

Richie_lecturer
05-01-2006, 21:25
I still like Turner. Admittedly his best days were early on when he was running Home Farm. However he's still a good ingredient to the mix and all the better for having Steph as a daughter. Can't see him going soon though, as he's one of the few remaining links to the Emmerdale Farm era. I think Richard Thorp's the second longest serving character left after Jack Sugden.

I find Kelly even more annoying week by week. Hope the producers are using her desperation to pull any bloke as a way of writing her out the show, this time for good. :nono:

Babe14

Kelly annoys me but at the same time I like her. I think that she has got better since she got her claws into Rodney, they seem to have an understanding between them.

I like Alan Turner and have known the character since he first appeared in Emmerdale but I don't remember ever seeing Terence though. I find Steph very annoying and boring. This storyline will be interesting though especially when the two come face to face...

I have a feeling that Edna will end up being house keeper for Tom up at Home Farm.

I hae to agree with you on that one. I couldnt stand her when she returned but now I actually find Im enjoying her. Rodney knows what she is so she doesnt have to pretend

I always liked Alan Turner. Cant stand Steph though (the character) Lorraine Chase is a great actress and apart from her accent would have made a supberb Sadie King

I have a feeling that Edna will end up being house keeper for Tom up at Home Farm. Until Zoe returns to reclaim Home Farm

Did Terence abuse Steph or has she made up the story?

Who is Mary?

Where is Cain, he hasn't been seen since Emily took Sarah did he go and look for them?

I think Edna fancys Tom King and may become the housekeeper a homefarm.

Kelly did well by helping Paul and Ivan. I hate Nicola, Simon deserves so much better than her.

I guess the doctors and nurses thought Shardach was the lion from the Wizard of Oz, so dared not go near him in case he got a bit nasty.

Hoorah a new Dingle! Surprised it didn't have a bobble hat on with ginger hair underneath at birth. That is a turn up for the books.

OK episode tonight. :)

that was so funny with the dingles in the pub when they were talking about how many people were disgraced about the family they were marrying into then Zak said but this time were the ones who are disgraced. Enjoying Emmerdale at the mo especially all the stuff with the Kings. Matt is on top form and I just love the way he comes out with things. Loving the Sugden/King feud and I loved the confrontation outside the Woollie between Matt and Jack. I thought that Matt looked really evil in the darkness. Nice to see the Kings and Sugdens in the thick of things again, these two families plus the Dingles are really what makes Emmerdale tick.

I'm glad Chas is back will she be back working in the pub i'd love to see her thump Louise again

i am sure that Katies mom has appeared in emmerdale before she and brian had just split up i am positive. Plus it says that the police have difficulty in contacting her i think she is in france or somewhere.

Loving it at the mo with Matt and Jack at one anothers throatrs and Tom stepping in to stop Matt going for him. I'm also loving the banter between Jimmy and Matt, "get your car out of the way of mine" " Simon clear off!" " Jimmy office now" Love it! Matt K and Matt H are really on form right now. I like the way this storyline is portraying the rivalry and difficulties faced by both the Farmer and The Powerful Business man. It is showing things from the Farmers point of view as well as the Business Mans. I liked it yesterday when Matt tried to end the feud with Jack by more or less telling him that he's had his revenge now, it's time to move on, you go about your business and we'll go about ours. Matt reminded me of Tom there as this is the approach Tom has and would take. Unfortunately as we saw things didn't quite work out that way..

Poor Andy I think he's is yet again in for a bit of a rough ride, but something tells me that this time with that horrible Robert out of the way he will once again find happiness with Katie...let's hope so.

I love Chas and Carl and am looking forward to things to come with regards to these two.

All in all very good viewing with lots of grit/drama and softer storylines running along side. Perrrrfect.

P.S Yes Louise is very annoying

There's hope as well that this talentless nobody will be axed by Emmerdale bosses. Waste of a return. :nono:

When Daz told Andy, Katie was cheating on him last time he didn't believe him and was gonna kick him out. Daz always looks out for Andy ok he sometimes causes trouble in the way he looks out for him and he doesn't want Andy to get hurt again which he thinks Katie will do. Katie really hurt him by going off with his brother Robert omg Max King ended up losing his life over their feud. I think Andy needs to realise that Daz is hurting and feeling betrayed and he needs to be there for him.

Does Matthew only go for blondes, Louise, Sadie and now this new temp?

Good episode tonight. I hope Andy sticks by Katie even though she has hurt him, her mum can't be found and her dad is dead so it would be good if he was there for her. Sadie's return was ok but the storyline with her and Alasdair is just stupid. Does she honestly love him?! She's only known him five minutes  I think she is just trying to make Matthew jealous.

andy is stupid if he gets bakc with katie. yeah maybe he should support her cos she has lost her dad but i hope he doesn't get bakc with her.

They had to bring Katie back because she never actually left she was just on maternity leave they couldnt sack her just so they didnt have to put Andy and Katie back together

So Sadie and Katie are back two awful characters. Jimmy's jumper last night was horrible he seems to be the stupid king family member. Is he and Sadie divorced?

Yeah i am sure that Jimmy and Sadie are divorced because last night she related to Matthew as "her ex brother in law."

Good stuff really enjoying Emmerdale right now.

P.S. I think that Andy and Katie should be together, they are made for each other.

With the hole Katie and Andy thing thats going on and how Daz is never listened to. A good storyline would be if social services came round and took Daz away because he hasn't been to school. But i surpose it is too late as he is nearly 16 years old.

Well Matthew tried to win Sadie back at that dinner party place. What was the hall called again?? I forgot  but she said no and said she is with Alasdair now but Matthew thinks that she is winding him up to make him jealous. We seen Carl with a video-camera. He may have something planned (if you read the spoilers you will know) Alice was surprised over how much publicity she has recieved for the wing walk but she wasn't happy with the newspaper report about her and the wing walk. She wanted it to be based around the charity and not her. Katie told Chas that she han't got hold of her new boyfriend as he doesn't know about the car crash she was involved in because she walked out on him. :) I think that's about it unless i have missed some bits out :)
