View Full Version : Surrogacy & edd donation
Would you do it?
Have you done it?
My sister has been trying for a baby for 5 years IVF has failed and they are currently going through the long process of adotption.
I have offered to donate eggs but she's not sure about it.
I dont think i could do the surrogacy thing until i've had kids myself.
this is a hard one,id like to think i would do it and think its great how people do, do it but it needs a lot of thought goin in to it before you make a desision cus you dont know how you will feel afterwards.

I agree with chance, I think it needs a great deal of thought! It depends on the person too - I wouldn't do it for money for strangers.
i'd definatley give it some serious thought if it were a family member, idont thinkid be able to carry the baby for them and hand it over after though,it would be devastating.
i have thought about egg donation before but have never done it, the only person i would even consider carrying a baby for would be my sister but even that would take a lot of thought

I couldn't be a surrogate mother for family or a stranger as there would be no way that i could carry a child and then just hand it over but I would without hesitation donate my eggs
I would donate my eggs with no problem, def for a family member and possibly for others too - surrogacy is a very difficult one, I don't think I would be able to carry the child and then hand it over, but if it was a family member and it was their eggs etc, then maybe - its a hard one...
She hasn't said it to me - but i think she worried that if the egg donation works i would think of the baby as my own.
Which i dont think i will if i havent carried the baby i wouldn't feel that link
mm not sure about this, I've not got any close female relatives except my mum and well she aint gonna need them.
There are quite afew risks involved medically and also i've not had any kids of my own, so may feel differently if/when I do.

Which i dont think i will if i havent carried the baby i wouldn't feel that linkFrom what I have heard, egg donation can be "uncomfortable" for the donor - I think you and your sister would need to sit and talk about it and think about it - is it a problem with your sister actually producing eggs? I would be happier about egg donation than surrogacy as like you say, you won't be feeling the movements etc of the baby. You have to be 110% sure of it, but this would certainly be something I would consider more so than surrogacy :D

i would like to think i would be a surrogate but i really dont think id be able to give the baby up, not after carryying it for 9 months!
We are having trouble conceiving due to my medical problems and i always thought i would find a surrogate, if i didnt concieve but after thinking it about it i really dont think i could knowing that it was daves baby but not really mine!
i would probably donate eggs if i could, after evreything im going through at the moment id like to give other people a chance ata baby

You could still have a baby thats both of yours through surrogacy(if your problems were not due to producing eggs), the surrogate does it via IVF. I really admire people that are able to do it

True but she will still have carried it and to me it wouldnt be the same, when i was pregnant with connor being pregnant was so great, me and dave would cuddle and he would stroke my belly and then the first kick and actually seeing the your belly grow it just help you prepare
I think if you have experienced pregnancy, then it would be much more difficult to have someone act as a surrogate for you, as you know what you should be feeling etc, but if you have never been pregnant then it would be quite so heart rendering, knowing that they are feeling what you should be - if that makes sense?!

yeah that makes sense having gone through it once i woudl always be thinking hmm that should be me feeling that first kick, me feeling sick, me with the strange cravings and me with the growing bump for dave to feel!
id much rather adopt,

this is so weird!!!
One of the reasons I have been AWOL for the last littel while is I am concidering offering to egg donate to a friend of ours. Although I dont think that I will end up doing it for a few reasons - I would like to have another baby and they cant wait until that happens for us (she is 42)
So yes I would concider it

Surrogacy there is a blast from the past! We had loads of problems getting pregnant with our kids and had spoken at legnth with a friend who was thinking about being a surogate for us - it wasnt an easy thing to think about - but it was easier than the thought of never having a little person

Egg collection (which would be the same procedure as donation) is normally not too bad - you would have to give yourself nightly injections for 10-14 days and have numerous internal ultrasounds which is not bad - imbasrasing the first time but you get over that, the actual collection is done normally under sedation and they use a speculum which is the instrument they use during smear tests afterwards a few stomach cramps but nothing more than a heavy period
As you can probably tell I have been there done that - my kids were IVF babies
