KATIE Holmes will have to suffer in silence while having Tom Cruise’s baby under the weird rules of Scientology.

The Sun can reveal that the controversial organisation believes pregnant women must remain silent during childbirth and shun painkilling drugs.

went onto the website for scientology and found this

What is a “Silent Birth”?

In the book, Dianetics, L. Ron Hubbard writes that for the benefit of the mother and child, silence should be maintained during childbirth. This is because any words spoken are recorded in the reactive mind and can have an aberrative effect on the mother and the child. The same applies to the vicinity of any injured person. To find out why, read Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.

'Silent birth' for Katie Holmes?

John Travolta and Kelly Preston have apparently advised Katie Holmes on how to have her baby.

The couple, who like Holmes' fiance Tom Cruise are members of the 'cult' church of Scientology, have suggested that the Dawson's Creek actress have a 'silent birth', meaning that the child comes into the world without music, background sounds or expressions of pain from the mother.

Theoretically, this method should ensure that the baby can adapt to its surroundings without a fuss.

IMDb.com quote Preston as saying: "It's just because everything in moments of pain is really recorded and you want to have that (the birth) peaceful and clear of sort of suggestions or different words that can then affect them (babies) in their future."

Luna
07-10-2005, 12:10
so that the baby can enter the world and adjust with there being out sounds of pain from the mother!!

i suppose if you really believe you can do it - then maybe you can be silent :searchme:

Angeltigger
07-10-2005, 12:12
But there is no way that you can give birth with out-out pain- that they have gas so that it helps

*vcl*
07-10-2005, 12:15
Does tom think he would be able to go through all that without making a sound ! would like to see him try! good luck to the poor girl wouldnt want to be in hers shoes !

I would not know as i have never have had a child You can give birth without gas and air and drugs, I did it, I wanted a natural birth no drugs, it was painful but I didn't scream out. I can cope with pain, but alot of people can't. The sun article also said that john travola's partner did scream out in the end was allowed minimal amount of drugs to help.

*vcl*

I know she really need to be carefull, dont get me wrong im really happy for them, they do seem to be in love but no cult should tell you when and how to have a aby, surely that should be her choice and her choice alone ! just my opinion

Bad Wolf
07-10-2005, 15:19
this is insane- so she cant even scream when it gets too much or have pain relief?????

total bonkers-ness

she can't express pain while in child birth? Are they being serious? They can't expect her to do that!! And with no dugs?! Oh dear lord, how are they expecting her to do that?!?!

Jojo
08-10-2005, 10:23
I had no pain relief with either of my 2 boys (not by choice mind, I was just too quick!! lol) but i'm pretty sure i did a bit of shouting - every female deserves the choice though - I'd like to see Tom trying to give birth with no "animation" - oh this is sooo the time when you wish men could have children!!!

There is no way that any woman could surely have a silent birth, you have to grunt and scream and tell your other half what you think of them and that they never coming near you again, it is all part of it. To be silent is completey unnatural, must have been a man that made that up!!

Angeltigger
10-10-2005, 11:34
hazey did it quietly

And doesn't it say somewhere that as much as Kelly Preston tried to have a silent birth, she ended up shouting out - the same Kelly Preston who is telling Katie that she has to have a silent birth!!!

Jojo

Angeltigger

No- And i did say that

Jojo
10-10-2005, 11:42
No- And i did say thatlike i said - i wasn't being funny, but if even members of the "church" can't stay silent throughout, and Kelly Preston, who is the one to have advised Katie that she has to stay silent can't and has to shout out, I think its unfair for this sort of pressure to be placed on her - she could end up feeling like a failure before she's even held her newborn!

Angeltigger

i didnt scream i didnt shout loud but i was vocal, lots of humming and grunts and lots of words that cant be put here!!lol - I think I remember saying a certain word quite a bit!!! like you debs, I was vocal, not shouting or screaming, but certainly not silent - everyone deals with the pain in different ways, and if you want to deal with it by shouting and screaming, so be it, especially if they have told her she's not to have pain relief - have they thought about what would happen if she needed a c-section though - is that allowed?!??

Jojo

yeah lol thats a c-section and it's not the belly button it's across the very bottom of your stomach - but she would still need pain relife for that!!!Thats why I was wondering if it would be allowed - she's not allowed pain relief, but if she has a planned c-section she would have an epidural and if emergency then a general :hmm: what a complicated way to have a child  I don't think I would have any if I belonged to Scientology, though I would still like to see Tom Cruise give birth and see how he feels about it all then

Luna
10-10-2005, 12:08
well i dont think they can do anything about it if she does NEED a c-section. Id like to see them try and stop it and risk a baby's life in the process.

Trinity

Why is it good for a child to be borm to a mother repressing her natural instincts? I agree that very many people try to give birth naturally, and some succeed like Hazey. It is the silent aspect that I find bizarre, what about encoragement from the father and reassurance from the midwife? I didn't scream, but I did talk, gasp, grunt and moan. And my husband talked me through the whole thing.
