Members of the EastEnders cast are being kept in the dark about how some of the year's biggest storylines will conclude, by having to film different endings and keep them secret.

The BBC soap's producers have decided that no one will know whether Kat and Alfie get back together before leaving Albert Square, or if newlyweds Sharon and Dennis Rickman will split.

To that end, cast and crew have been given censored scripts that mean they are only allowed to read the scenes that they will be working on, and even then they have been told to keep things top secret.

An EastEnders insider told The Sun "Producers want it to be Fort Knox at Elstree, the scripts are blacked out.

"Three big stars are leaving, Jessie Wallace, Shane Ritchie, Nigel Harman, and a fourth, Letitia Dean, is taking a break."

As a result, both happy and sad endings will be filmed, with BBC1 boses deciding which versions to show for their Christmas and New Year episodes at the last minute.
