My hubbie is trying to do his and mine family tree and he is having troubles knowing where to start?

have any of you lovely people done a family tree and if so please can you give us some pointers of where to start, where we can look up things etc

ive started mine and i do it on genes reunited and ive found 2 family members and ive traced it back quite far but you have to pay fo a year

Yeah genes reunited we have used but it not bringing much up for his side of the family

try the local library - electoral and census (sp) rolls

and a census is only done every 10 years

When we were tracing our family tree we went to one of them places where you can get ahold of old census's etc. We got a link, then googled it, and searched on different websites. My great great grandad owned a water company, that sold bottled drinks extra. I think it was a family buisness so it would be the Idris drink company i think. Ever heard of it?!

ive never heard of it and somehow im related to nikki chapman and a singer who was in a group i think it was the honeycombs

At least shes better tehn the great grandaughter of a soft drinks company owner! Actually i heard it was still around today, doing ginger beer or something, but i've never heard of Idris ginger beer myself!

ive gone back to 1804
