OH MY GOD! I can't believe how many characters are set to leave the square in the coming year.
1.Dennis
2.Johnny
3.Tina
4.Sam
5.Chrissie
6.Alfie
7.Kat
also Sharon is having a break away from the square.
I know they are bringing in new characters but surely they wont make up for this huge loss most of the good characters in the square are leaving. What is everyones opinions on all these departures?

There are rather lot arent there. And most of them are trhe bigger more popular charcaters too like. The only big ones left will be erm.... i dont rreally know, maybe little mo, billy, ian. lol not really sure. must admit glad that Chrissie and alfie are going. hate them both now.

and sharon
I'm not bothered that most of them are leaving. I will miss Chrissie but that is it.
I'm sick of Kalfie and Shannis and I want them all gone. The TV programe in called 'EastEnders' not 'The Kalfie/Shannis Experience' .
Alfie has been totally ruined as a character and is now a depressive moron with a big ego. I'll open a bottle of champagne when he leaves.
Sharon most likely has the local Walford taxi service (I guess that would be Charlie 'I've let me gurls down' Slater) on speed dial, the amount of times she comes and goes on the show. Everytime she leaves, the writers have to keep coming up with yet more reasons why she has to leave. It is stupid and Kate Harwood should either tell her to stay or go. No more long breaks.
Johnny is no great loss either - he also has been ruined. He has turned from the guy that chucked Andy the rubbish gangster off a flyover to a domesticated family man who does naff all. Tina is a waste of space as well, and I will not miss her one bit. I do however hope that Ruby will stay as I like her and she has potential.
There are still loads of good characters left, people may think they are boring characters but they are only boring because the writers never give them anything to do. Kat and Dennis would also be as boring as hell if all they did all day was sit in the cafe or talk about the state of the local hospitals (Sonia).
There are some great characters still there:
- The Millers (Keith, Rosie, Mickey (get well soon, Joe :) , Dawn, Darren, Demi and little Aleesha  , oh and the dog ). The next big family.
- The Mitchells (Peggy, Phil, Billy and Grant). I'll include Grant in this even though he is not long term. Not sure about Phil's status either as he is well past his sell by date. In fact the Mitchells as a whole are past their sell by date, except Billy who needs to get back with Little Mo.
- The Wicks/Butchers (Pat, Deano and Deano's dad). More family members may also arrive. Pat has been totally ignored because of the so-called stars who think they are bigger than EastEnders and should be centre stage in everything.
- The Fowlers (Pauline, Sonia, Martin). Need to be made more interesting but still strong characters.
- The Truemans (Patrick and Yolande). Totally wasted and underused. Patrick is funny and should be used more.
- The Slaters (Charlie, Big Mo, Little Mo, Stacey). Stacey is great but Charlie and Big Mo need to be given more to do. As for Little Mo  , I like her but Molfie is still so fresh in my mind  .
- The Brannings (Jim and Dot). The best couple on EastEnders. Both characters can do funny and serious.
There is also Ian and Jane and his kids, Minty, Garry and the new guy Joe.
So anyway, no character (read Sharon, Dennis, Kat, Alfie) or actor (read Shane Richie, Nigel Harman, Letitia Dean or Jessie Wallace) are bigger than EastEnders. Period.
I must say i have to agree with what florijo has said. Alfie at first was a much loved character, he was a breath of goodness when he first arrived. But after some dreadful, appalling and unappealing storylines he has been ruined.

i think it's really good that all these characters are leaving, it's time for something more fresh and that doesn't drone on and on.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. The script writers should take more notice of boards like these and take a tip or 7 from the scripts our talented memebers make up. Some of the new characters that have been brought into fictitional scripts in our favourite soap streets from our members have been far more interesting than some of the real people on screen now.

Me too. I like the idea of all the new characters coming into it and I'm getting quite excited about the Mitchells and the reinvention of the Watts family. But I still think that Dennis is a valued character in the soap. He is great to have as an opposition to the Mitchells. And along with that he has great acting abillity, and there is so much scope for his character. It would be a shame to have him leave. But as long as they keep the door open for him, there's always chance he could make his come back.
Several actors have said they won't return and do. Leslie Grantham is a prime example. Ross Kemp said never say never, but it seemed unlikely he would come back, but he has 5 years down the line. Mike Reid is coming back for a short stint at Christmas (not unlikely, very repetitive! lol). Never say never, Nigel Harman, you never know when you might need a break.
Jake must leave in some way aswell because otherwise bosses wouldn't kill of a popular character like Nana Moon.

There was a rumor that she was going to hang herself but I don't think it's true.
