EastEnders actor Joe Swash is recovering at home from a potentially life-threatening brain virus, according to his agent.
The 23-year-old was diagnosed with viral meningoencephalitis, which attacks the linings of the brain. Swash, who plays Mickey Miller in the BBC soap, collapsed at his mother's home last week and was rushed to hospital. Luckily he had only a mild form of the virus and was discharged at the weekend.
His agent said: "Joe Swash returned home over the weekend following a brief spell in hospital.
"He was taken ill last week and subsequently diagnosed with mild viral meningoencephalitis.
"Doctors report he is on his way to a complete recovery with no lasting effects from the illness but requires further rest. He is expected back at work in time for Christmas."
She added: "Joe wants to thank everyone for their support during the last few days. He has asked that he be given some time and privacy to relax and recover before he gets back to work."
