An episode of sitcom Will and Grace has been performed and broadcast live in the US, with no mishaps.
The first episode of the eighth and final series of Will and Grace was performed live twice, for viewers in eastern and western America.

Apart from an attack of the giggles by stars Debra Messing, who plays Grace, and Sean Hayes, who plays Jack, the live show went ahead with no problems.

Episodes of US hospital drama ER and UK soap The Bill have been broadcast live.

Cameo role

Thursday night's Will and Grace episode also saw Eric McCormack, who stars as Will, kiss Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin in a cameo role.

The half-hour show centred on the discovery that the husband of Karen, played by Megan Mullally, was not dead after all.

Actor Hayes spent most of the episode wearing an eye patch, following a mishap on the set of the actor's new US talk show.

"I tripped making my entrance, knocked over the light and caught the set on fire," Hayes said.

In 2003 actress Messing picked up an Emmy award for her role as uptight interior designer Grace, best friend of gay lawyer Will.

The NBC series began in 1998 and is broadcast in the UK on Channel 4.
