View Full Version : Soham killer jailed for 40 years
Soham murderer Ian Huntley will spend at least 40 years in prison, a High Court judge has ruled.
Mr Justice Moses, who presided over the former school caretaker's 2003 trial, said the 31-year-old cannot be considered for parole until 2042.
Huntley received two life terms for the 2002 murders of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells, both 10, in Soham, Cambs.
Shouldn't life mean life??? and this guy got two life sentences and he could be out in 40 years...not good enough i dont think

well in 40 years he will be 71
but yea ia agree life should be life for what he has done
people can still commit crimes at 71
i agree luna life is life to me he should rot in prison! hopefully he will die early
yup totally agree i am also of the opinion that if they get more than one life sentence then its the death penalty - i know a lot of people wont agree with me on this but it's what i strongly believe
no i agree with you luna, he commited a horrid croime he needs hanging publicly!
i was thinking more of the injection - but a hanging will do me fine
Just read that because of a ruling that was made a few years back he could be out at 65 as long as he had served 15 -20 years by the time he becomes a pensioner he can apply for parole
This "man" is the sort of person capital punishment should be brought back for - he was in a trusted position at the school and the number of failings that could have prevented these poor girls their fate were disgusting. If someone is sentenced to life, it should mean exactly that, though I would prefer capital punishment for then at least I wouldn't be paying his "hotel" bill through my taxes!!!
Our system isn't hard enough on the people carrying out crimes and the number of re-offenders is ridiculous - something needs to be sorted......

she was no better that girlfriend of his she should be strung up has well
she was no better that girlfriend of his she should be strung up has well
yea she should of been.i bet she knew about his past even though she won't admit it
She had a lot more to do with it - i think anyway
Did you read in the papers that she got permission to visit their graves??
yea but didn't they deny it?
Yeah i think they did - but apparently someone got photo's of her there but thaey cant publish them because of the identy clause
she should never of been given a new ID cause we the taxpayers are paying for it she should be punished just like Ian Huntly.

this is a very long time and if you want my opinion he deserve it

he deserves to rot away
I aso think life should be life..Myra Hindley and braddie never got out, so nor should Huntley. They scraped the hanging law due to a couple of wrong hangings in the 50's,they should have kept it. But allowed 2 appeals then if the sentance stayed they sould have the right hang. After all we now all work to keep these murderers in comfort, as prison is not hard these days. Due to the european laws,we can not bring back hanging. Yet another thing we are being told not to do by others.
Shame they don't have the same laws here as they do in America but on the other hand it would be better that he stays in prison so he can suffer just like he made them suffer

er, hello? life should mean exactly that. Life. Ands whats worse is he got TWO life sentances!! Let him suffer for what he did to those girls. Justice hasn't been done if he's not put away for life

Brady did get out a few years ago i think - Hindley died before the court ruling that would have seen her go free

Well hes got a long time to think about what he has done.
Brady did get out a few years ago i think - Hindley died before the court ruling that would have seen her go freeNope - Brady is still inside - remember he went on that hunger strike a little while back and then got taken into hospital to be force fed - should have let him starve himself -if you ask me, but he is still inside...
Sorry read this wrong
Brady spent 19 years in a mainstream prison (at point befriending serial poisoner and fellow Nazi aficionado Graham Frederick Young) before he was declared insane in 1985 and sent to a mental hospital. He confessed to two more murders in 1987 and has since made it clear that he never wants to be released from prison. The trial judge had recommended that his life sentence should mean life, and successive Home Secretaries have agreed with that decision. The only person to make a different judgement was Lord Chief Justice Lane, who set a 40-year-minimum term in 1982. A House of Lords ruling which stripped the Home Secretary of his power to set tariffs on life sentences could lead to Brady being released in 2006, but he still insists he never wants to be freed and has had to be force fed since going on hunger strike in 1999.
Why force feed him - let him starve after everything he put those poor children through.....
he could still be out by next year though...thats whats scary
It makes me soooo angry  If you take a life you should lose yours simple as...

40 years is such a long time but when that time is up whats to stop him doing it again? its stupid if he gets life then he should be in for life untill he dies, some people liek that though get out on bail and all sorts, like if they behave in prison their time can be cut in half or somehting, whats the point in that when they get out they can do it all over again.
At least this way he can go through the nastyness of being in prison where as if they killed him he wouldnt be suffering. but he should have been lcked up ages ago, straight away and got life fomr then. he should get two life sentences meaning he'll never get out.
I think its wrong that the women (Forget her name is it maxine) got a new id, tax payers have to pay for all of that. the girls familes are paying tax which is going to her to have a normal life so she can be safe! I just cant believe it. ok maybe she didnt do anything not sure if she played a part in killing the girls but what ever she did she wasnt telling the truth or puting a stop to it, she kept it too her self, she could have saved their lives. she doesnt deserve a new id no matter what she did or didnt do she deserves jail for life too in my opionin.
It just makes me so mad that people get away with this sort of thing when innocent people were made to suffer.  like those two boys who took that boy fomr the shopping centre and killed him on the train track years ago, they were too young to go to prision so got new lives and new identitys. WHY
does this mean that Ian has to stay in prison for 40 years or can he come out sooner if he beaves or what ever the rules are. i think he should be in their for life meaning untill he dies a slow and painful death.

I agree with you life should mean life if you take some ones life you get life..
He should not get any kind of luxuries while he is in prison
Somebody who's got nothing to lose, has kids of their own and who doesn't stand a chance of parole will take matters into their own hands. I would buy the man who finished him off a huge drink or 7. Those babies didn't stand a chance and as a mother myself i would kill for mine as i'm sure all the other mums on here would too. He deserves everything he got and here's rasing my glass to the man who decided on 40 years. Can i just say to him though that perhaps it was a typo and he meant 80 years?

when he does put in for parole in 40 years it dosnt mean he will get it, it depends on his mental state at the time
i personally think he will be dead long before then anyway i think he will do what that harold shipman did ...hang himself

I agree that he will probably kill himself then it will save the taxpayers alot of money to look after him.I think that they should give him the death penalty anyway

i know what i would like to do to him,but i don't think i can say it on here

Maybe he could buy some fishing wire and/or rope with it? Hope he doesn't get any - I say they should let him out, and wait until the angry mob of practically everyone in the UK pounces on him, with sharp and rusty knives. Anyone up for that?
He's one of the few people I would bring back the death penatly for - and I'm very very very against it.

oh yeah! the uproar when that happens will be tremendous!! I know he'll get a new identity and whatever but the whole country isn't gonna be very happy about him being let free!!
Life should mean life, lock him up and throw away the key I say.
