Sun Hill welcomes back Adam Okaro (Cyril Nri) as Superintedent who concentrates on looking after the troops who are still reeling from the events that occurred during the Sun Hill siege the week before.
Adam asks DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) to look into a press photo that has been printed of Lesley Palmer, (Pauline Quirke) a notorious child killer who has just been released from prison after 20 years. Jo tries to persuade Lesley to leave the Canley area but is furious to learn that her old cell mate, Fiona (Lisa Hogg), has been staying with her despite Jo’s previous warning.
Meanwhile, a mob gathers and it emerges that Fiona has leaked Lesley's whereabouts to the press for cash. The mother of one of Lesley and ex partner Stewart Jenson's (Renny Krupinski) victims berates her (as her sons body was never found) and the police on Lesley's doorstep. Lesley flees leaving Jo and Adam worrying for her safety…
Also, Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and PC Laura Bryant (Melanie Kilburn) continue to question, who the real Gabriel Kent is? Is it their colleague or the unconscious man in hospital? And what is his relationship to Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin)?

Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and PC Laura Bryant’s (Melanie Kilburn) suspicions that the unidentified man in hospital might be Sergeant June Ackland’s (Trudie Goodwin) son are confirmed when they escort her to the hospital to see him.
She says that he is the real Gabriel Kent and the man they’ve been working with, has stolen his identity. They decide to keep quiet for the sake of June’s career as she’s known PC Kent’s (Todd Carty) deep dark secret all along.
DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) and DS Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) continue to hunt for missing Lesley Palmer (Pauline Quirke) and as the trail runs cold, Jo tracks down Fiona Dodds (Lisa Hogg), Lesley's cell mate who shopped her to the press.
When Lesley’s ex-boyfriend, Stewart Jenson (Renny Krupinski), also disappears, the team wonder if the two are in fact getting together again. With help from the mother of one of the victims, Jo and Sam track Lesley down to Oxfordshire where she has stabbed Stewart. Lesley threatens to kill him unless he reveals where he left the body. Stewart finally confesses and the body is retrieved much to the distraught mother’s relief.
DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) and DS Phil Hunter (Scott Maslen) investigate a sudden death but soon find they are also investigating a burglary. The burglar, a prostitute, needs saving from a pimp and Terry and Phil gather evidence to convict the pimp and rescue the young girl. The sudden death turns out to be murder and is passed to MIT.
