A FRIEND SENT THIS TO ME I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT IT SO THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR IT,, GOOD PEOPLE HERE TO SHARE IT WITH
My Life is Gone

In the blink of an eye,
Through hurricane force winds,
In the earth's shuddering sigh
In the eyes of my twins.

I stand upon the edge
Of destruction, ruin, chaos
Looking down from the ledge
As water swirls by.

My home now is sticks,
Jumbled, tattered and torn.
Treasured memories gone
The scene so forlorn.

Everything we held dear
Now scattered and gone
I am filled with such fear
At the rise of the dawn.

I do not want to see
Not one picture more
My heart aches and bleeds
At the devastation galore.

My first thought is to hide
That it is all a bad dream
That the news team has lied
Things can't be so extreme.

But I wake and I rise,
See devastation far and wide.
So begin I to apprise
To deny and decide.

For time marches on,
No matter our plight,
New hope on each dawn,
Relief is in sight.

So I put on a smile,
My best "mommy" face
My children awake in awhile
My tears must leave no trace.

For it is me that they turn to,
So scared so unsure,
To help them survive,
To help them get through.

The South will rise again,
Of this I am certain.
New heights to attain,
But the depth still uncertain.

My Southern grace and composure,
Taught upon my mama's knee,
Keeps my pain from disclosure,
My eyes only to see.

The life I built now is gone,
But my life has been spared.
So in my heart is a song,
Although frightened and scared.

A chance to start over,
From ruins we will begin.
