View Full Version : help squirrels in the attic
I am up at this silly time cos I cant sleep for I have a mother and baby squirrel in the loft. I went up today to chase them out,but they hid under the eaves so I can't get them. Any one got any good ideas how to chase them out,its driving me mad. Rang the council and they want £150 to set traps and no gaurntee. They will set traps for four days,if they don't catch them and have to make more than 2 vists they charge another £150.Money that is needed for other things. Like paying the bills. Any good ideas guys
um.... is there anyway you can secure your loft to stop them from coming in when you have got them out?
Did they not use rattles in corrie to get rid of them?

sprinkle lavender (sp?) oil in the corner of the loft the mother wont recognise the smell and will move her baby away if lavender doesnt work try a different smell but make sure the squirrels can get out lol

Hmm... maybe ask your DIY store.. or research some cheaper people to get them out..
um.... is there anyway you can secure your loft to stop them from coming in when you have got them out? Once out we have to replace the eaves (wooden part under gutter) as they ate that to get in,I watched them leave and my hubby started the repair but they came back and attacked him up the ladder, some 60 foot up not funny, are up there now making a horrible squeeking noise.
My friends family used the rattle things like what they did in Corrie. It does actually work :D

how horrible - everyone thinks that squirrels are really sweet and cute - they are right on the cute part but not on the sweet - a work mate of my hubbys had his kitchen trashed by squirrels - they got in the cat flap ate a bag of coffee beans (so were wired on caffine) and trashed the place - they were still buzzing and jumping around when he got home!

good plan!! let us know how you get on
update on squirrels. I went into the loft did the rattle thing they went mad there was four of them. They ran around and round pulling up all the loft instulation, one jump out a ran down the wall and started attacking my son,who hit it, and it ran along the wall. one escape through the loft hatch and into the house, and started biting my poor dog,but she got hold of it and tossed it, and it around out the house. Hubby on ladder outside and the other two were hissing and making a funny noise, but wouldn't leave, even after a good prod with a stick, So still can't do repair, and while I checked out my son and the dog,the other two came back. It was like something out of a horror movie. we are all stressed out now and the.....are still there. I think its going to be, paying the proffesionals. Dont ever think they are cute they were so visious my son was lucky that he wasnt badly bitten.

that so doesnt seem fair :(
wish that I could suggest something else that would get rid of them -
What about taping the rattling sound and putting the tape player in the attic leave it on for ages to make sure they have left then repairing the hole?

you can buy squirrel traps for about £21 guess that is a cheeper alternative
I have such good news, since the evening of terror. The squirells have abandoned the nest, and can know be seen living in a tree 10 houses away. They have been fightened to come back after our beating. I have my next door neighbour up there now replacing all the wood and then covering the area with metal strips(advise rspca).I am so happy, and I have cancelled the expensive council service. Thank you so much for your advise and for being so caring. Hazey :cheer: :cheer:
