Neighbours has confirmed the exit of a fan favourite ahead of the show's ending, just as two characters make their return.
Back in February, Neighbours confirmed that it had been axed again after failing to secure a renewal deal from Amazon.
The Australian soap first received the axe in 2022, before it was revived in a surprise move by Amazon's ad-supported service Freevee.
In upcoming scenes that are set to air on Monday 1 September, Aaron Brennan leaves the Street, bowing out with his new boyfriend Rhett Norman after recently choosing him over Colton Keys.
Matt Wilson, who plays Aaron, left before the end of the show but he was on set for the final few days so it looks like he will make a guest appearance during the finale in December.
Also in upcoming scenes, Elle Robinson (now played by Elise Jansen) returns to Ramsay Street and Terese Willis is immediately wary of her.
Last month the soap announced that it was bringing back the classic character 16 years after she first left and just in time for the grand finale.
Taking to Instagram, Neighbours revealed that Paul Robinson's daughter Elle was returning to Ramsay Street, with Jansen taking over the role from Pippa Black.
They captioned the post: "Elle Robinson returns! Now played by Elise Jansen, Paul's daughter will soon be arriving on Ramsay Street, but what's brought her back after all this time?
"Elle's dramatic storyline is set to take us right up to our nail biting finale?"
Finally, Sam Kratz, played by Richard Grieve, returns to Ramsay Street and clashes with ex-wife Annalise Hartman. When Annalise recently returned, she confirmed that she and Sam had broken up.
Previously speaking about the last ever episode of the Aussie soap, which is set to air in December, boss Jason Herbison told The Age: "I am ending it in a way that sets up future chapters."
Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach Comedy.

1. Nell and JJ break up
Neighbours splits up Nell Rebecchi and JJ Varga-Murphy next week, leading to high emotion all round.
The young couple go their separate ways after Nell bites the bullet and tells JJ that she doesn't want to be with him anymore.
Nell's bombshell comes after her recent struggle to be around JJ, who seems far more committed to the relationship than she does.
Feeling pressured by everyone viewing them as a golden couple, Nell recently freaked out during a date with JJ and walked out on him.
Next week, Nell arrives back in town with her dad Toadie after a few days spent away in Colac.
"JJ is delighted to see Nell and assumes they can pick up where they left off," our Neighbours insider explains.
"It soon becomes clear that this may not be possible, as Nell seems strangely reserved and Toadie clearly knows more than he's letting on."
Toadie discreetly supports Nell as she processes the realisation that she doesn't want to keep seeing JJ.
An oblivious JJ remains as sweet and supportive towards Nell as ever, but this only pushes her over the edge.
"In a moment of brutal honesty, Nell tells JJ that she can't keep stringing him along," our source adds.
"Nell announces that they have to break up ? leaving JJ stunned."
Will JJ get any answers over how things went so wrong?
2. Holly makes a promise to Aaron
Wendy Rodwell interrupts a tense conversation between her husband Andrew, Holly Hoyland and Aaron Brennan. Aaron knows this is his main chance to expose Andrew and Holly's affair, but he decides that it's best to keep quiet.
The next morning, Aaron's final day in Erinsborough arrives but he still isn't sure whether he did the right thing.
He seeks out Holly for a final chat and she assures him that she won't do anything unwise where the Rodwells are concerned. Is this a promise that Holly can keep?
3. Aaron issues a warning
Aaron still isn't sure that he's done enough to protect his friends, so he also initiates a quiet chat with Karl Kennedy about his wayward daughter.
Saying as much as he dares to, Aaron tells Karl that he fears Holly is addicted to drama and someone needs to keep an eye on her.
4. Aaron says his goodbyes
As his final day continues, Aaron enjoys some emotional moments alone with many of the people who've meant so much to him during his time in Erinsborough ? including Paul Robinson, Leo Tanaka and Nicolette Stone.
It's particularly emotional as Paul makes a heartfelt speech, declaring that Aaron is another son to him.
Later, the time arrives for Aaron to drive off to Adelaide with his boyfriend Rhett Norman.
5. News from Elle shocks Paul
As Paul starts to feel sentimental about his family, he tries to reconcile with Krista Sinclair after their recent tensions over Lassiters.
Paul soon gets distracted by a text from his daughter Elle, who lets him know that she's quit her job and has decided to come back to Erinsborough.
6. Nicolette gets jealous
Jane Harris is confused when she spots her daughter Nicolette snapping at Cara Varga-Murphy during Aaron's leaving party.
She doesn't understand why Nicolette would be pushing Cara away after how close they've been recently. All becomes clear when Jane realises that Nicolette is jealous over the progress that Cara is making with her estranged wife Remi. Does Nicolette have feelings for Cara?

1. Terese accuses Elle of lying
Elle Robinson's Neighbours return gets off to a rocky start next week, as Terese Willis calls her out for telling lies to her dad Paul.
As Elle (now played by Elise Jansen) spins a tall tale over why she's back in town after 16 years away, it doesn't take Terese long to find out that she isn't being honest.
Next week's episodes see Elle get in touch with Paul to announce that she's coming back home after quitting her job in New York.
Paul accepts this at face value, but Terese and Krista Sinclair both suspect there's much more to it.
"Terese is very reluctant to trust anything that Elle says," our Neighbours source explains.
"She hasn't forgotten that Elle was the mastermind behind Paul's ex-wives coming back into his life, just before he was due to marry Terese in 2019.
"Paul has put this incident well and truly behind him, especially as Elle claimed that she was testing him rather than trying to break them up. But Terese can't help feeling wary?"
Terese and Krista get Leo Tanaka on board with their theories, asking him to consult a well-placed contact in New York about what's really happening with Elle.
Leo's friend reports back that Elle didn't really quit the job she loved ? instead, she was fired amid a scandal at work.
"Terese quickly confronts Elle and warns that she has some explaining to do," our insider adds. "How will Elle deal with this curveball?"
2. Nicolette tries to distract herself from Cara
Nicolette Stone tries to distract herself from her feelings for Cara Varga-Murphy by arranging a quick date with Maddy Murphy ? Cara's cousin.
Jane Harris questions her daughter's motives but receives a frosty response for meddling.
In the cold light of day after spending the night with Maddy, Nicolette starts to realise that Jane was right to be sceptical about her impulsive behaviour...
3. Nell feels isolated
Nell insists that she wants to stay friends with the Varga-Murphy boys after breaking up with JJ. Dex dismisses this, insisting that his loyalty lies with JJ. He refuses to see Nell until JJ is feeling better about the heartbreaking situation.
Nell also struggles back at home at Number 22, with Elle's arrival throwing the status quo into chaos.

1. Colton returns and drops a bombshell
Neighbours airs a surprise return for Colton Keys next week ? but he's unlikely to win many friends as he reveals a shocking plan to oust Susan Kennedy from Eirini Rising.
Colton, who had a brief stint as a love interest for Aaron Brennan a few weeks ago, makes his unexpected comeback after arranging a meeting with Terese Willis.
It turns out that Colton has moved on quickly from his temporary job at Eirini, as he's now working for the Sunset Retirement Group.
The top bosses at the Sunset group have their eyes on Eirini, which is currently in a financial crisis after facing various disasters ever since it opened.
"Colton lays a very tempting offer out to Terese," our Neighbours insider explains. "The Sunset group is willing to buy Eirini, which would solve Terese's financial issues once and for all.
"Sadly, it's not all good news ? there's a strict condition attached that Susan would lose her job as part of the changeover."
Terese shares this dilemma with her partner Paul Robinson, unaware that his daughter Elle is eavesdropping on the conversation.
The timing couldn't be worse for Terese. Earlier on, she'd exposed Elle for lying about why she returned to Erinsborough. This forced Elle to confess that she was fired from her job in New York amid a workplace scandal, rather than bowing out of her own accord like she'd originally claimed.
Irritated with Terese for meddling, Elle decides to use her new-found knowledge as payback?
2. Elle exposes the truth
Susan is still on a mission to increase occupancy rates at Eirini Rising and boost revenues that way. She meets a potential buyer, Monte Jones, who turns out to be a celebrity ? best known for starring in a coffee advertisement in the '80s.
When Monte signs a contract, Susan is pleased that her efforts went so well ? but she's brought back down to earth when Elle tells her that Eirini looks set to be sold and she'll lose her job in the process.
3. Taye tries to get closer to Sadie
Sadie Rodwell remains firm in her stance that she doesn't want to get too close to Taye Obasi. Taye seems to have other ideas, as he books himself a treatment at the Lassiters spa to spend time with her.
Sadie knows exactly what Taye is up to and finds a way to turn the tables on him. Despite the bickering, the casual lovers seem closer than ever...

1. Susan's future at Eirini Rising is confirmed
Neighbours legend Susan Kennedy faces a life-changing decision next week after uncovering a shock plan to axe her from Eirini Rising.
Susan must choose whether to step aside for the greater good of the business after some important discussions take place behind her back.
In upcoming scenes, Colton Keys returns to Erinsborough for a secret meeting with Susan's business partner Terese Willis.
Now representing the Sunset Retirement Group, Colton reveals that his bosses want to buy Eirini Rising ? but a strict condition in the takeover agreement would see Susan lose her job.
"Susan finds out what's going on when Elle Robinson lets the news slip after eavesdropping on Terese," our Neighbours insider explains. "Susan goes straight to Terese to find out whether it's true.
"Clearly on the back foot, Terese verifies Colton's demand but makes it clear that she has no intention of selling to the Sunset Group."
Susan isn't reassured for long, however, as she starts to wonder whether it'd be best for everyone if she stepped aside. She urges Terese to give Colton's offer some serious consideration rather than hastily dismissing it.
Later, Susan regrets her generous words as the tough reality dawns on her. She's not ready to retire again after her previous experience saying goodbye to Erinsborough High before she was ready.
"Toadie, who's back in town for a visit, soon steps in and urges Susan to be more honest with Terese," our source adds.
"The two friends finally realise that they're better off sticking together as a dream team to turn around the fortunes of Eirini Rising, but can they manage it?"
2. Terese and Elle thrash out their differences
Terese is livid when she finds out that Elle stirred up trouble by telling Susan that her job was at risk. Elle hides her true intentions by claiming that she overheard Terese talking to Paul about Colton's offer and presumed it was common knowledge.
Although Terese doesn't believe a word of it, she suggests to Elle that they should call a truce for Paul's sake. Elle agrees, but is it a promise she can stick to?
3. Andrew and Holly's affair is back on
After a brief period of trying to keep away from each other, Andrew Rodwell and Holly Hoyland are drawn back together.
Andrew seeks out Holly after struggling to perform in the bedroom with his wife Wendy. It's interesting timing, as Holly is struggling to keep up the fa?ade of being loved-up with her boyfriend Max Ramsay.
When Andrew visits Holly at the Kennedy house, they give into their feelings once again...

DEX has definitely been given the short straw in the reboot! He was a far better match with NELL then JJ. Kid just used as a fill in really.
