Martin Kemp and Tamzin Outhwaite had EastEnders' fans hooked with their on-off relationship as Mr and Mrs Steve Owen, but since leaving Albert Square, they've proved they each have the screen presence to headline programmes.

ITV recently announced both stars have been signed to appear in major productions.

Outhwaite will reportedly play a mother who, not content with her lot, trains to become a doctor, while Kemp will portray a jealous husband convinced his wife is having an affair.

The latter's thriller will comprise two feature-length editions written by Paul Coates.

However, we'll see more of Kemp's former screen wife as her drama series, which is currently using the working title Vital Signs, will consist of six hour-long episodes.

Outhwaite has won huge acclaim since quitting the Beeb's soap.

The military drama Red Cap saw her investigating all manner of crimes, but it was Out of Control in 2002 which proved her worth.

David Savage's ad-libbed one-off changed the usually glamorous blonde bombshell into a downtrodden single mum struggling to cope with her son's imprisonment and subsequent death.

Her image was altered again in ITV1's Frances Tuesday when she played a gangster's moll who, having given evidence against her partner, had plastic surgery and went into hiding.

More recently she starred alongside Hollywood heavyweight Wesley Snipes in the action movie 7 Seconds.
