View Full Version : Cheapest broadband
UKonline (http://www.ukonline.net) are doing a 512k package for £9.99 which I believe is the cheapest yet.
I remember the good old days when I used to pay £50.00 for that!

I have a bad feeling about them. Do they have some sort of 12 month contract or something? I'm sure if they haven't already got a bandwidth limit, they will impose one when everyone rushes to get the cheap broadband. :/ Prefer to go with an isp who I trust and pay a little bit extra.

I've found one catch, you need to be in certain areas to get the cheap prices. :p

They only have a 12 month contract for the 8mb service.
They are part of the EasyNet group so should be pretty reliable.

BTOpenworld charge about 27.99 but they are soon going to upgrade their broadband speed to 2MB for no extra charge!
I got connected to the 8mb service today. Damn fast!

Biggest doesn't necessarily mean best. Most people I know are on NTL cause its cheap. BT I wouldn't touch - go for another company that essentially resells the BT package but with better customer service.

BT are far from being the best! I think theres a forum somewhere dedicated to how crap BT is, and the rubbish service you get. I was with BT dial up a few years back, and the service I got was terrible, they moved me onto some other number, because I was apparently a "high user" and I could hardly connect most of the time. They also had the cheek to suggest I move to broadband! Broadband wasn't even available in the area I was in at that time!!!!
I stick to pipex, because they are stable and I get good service from them. An 8mb service would be wonderful , but I'm never sure if I'm going to stay in one place for more than 12 months. My line is meant to be upgraded to a 1mb line soon, I pay 23.44 a month, Im sure there are cheaper, but I dont get any limits and have a reliable service.

I don't live in a cabled area - what is the cheapest broadband? Do you have to have a phone line if you aren't cabled?

There's generally four kinds of broadband:
Cable
ADSL
Satellite
WAN Wireless
Most people are in the first two. If you have a BT landline you can get almost certainly get broadband unless your exchange is too far away (generally not a prob). If you have cable, then you need to phone your cable company up and request a broadband package.
Do you have a BT phoneline?

I'm about to move house and i didn't want to have a BT phoneline, but the area isn't cabled so i think I might have to so that I can access the internet - is that right?
You're in the same boat as me. Our area isn't cabled either, so we are stuck with BT. But the ADSL service is good - just don't go with BT for the broadband

But the ADSL service is good - just don't go with BT for the broadband why not what is wrong with BT broad band its not cheap as I have the dearest package, but there are three of us using it,all at the same time,it is fast, downloads are quick and have no problems with the service, or am I the lucky one ?
BT are notorious for their customer service, blocking of ports etc.
i use pipex- 2mbps for £17.99 a month can't see better
My boyf pays for ours (blue yonder) so its free for me!! not sure how much it is though, but we have telewest phone and cable so I think they do a deal. But the three for £30 is only for new customes:angry:

I don't know if its to do with the area, but my friend had Tiscali and they eventually got rid of it because it wouldn't connect most of the time.
pipex is great never a problem.. touchwood!
