Des Lynam nervous about over "Countdown"

Des Lynam has admitted that he is nervous about the possibility of taking over as the presenter of Countdown.

The former Match of the Day host faces a live audition this week, with comic Paul Merton also being considered.

Long-standing host Richard Whiteley died in June at the age of 61, after undergoing heart surgery.

"Richard is a hard act to follow," Lynam told The Mirror. "I phoned Carol [Vorderman] to see how she felt about it and she said: 'Go for it'."

Will Carol still be doing it, even with a new presenter? I read it in the sun that Carol said she would continue with countdown, if they got the right presenter, she said no one could replace Richard, but a good presenter could keep the show going.
