I've wanted a laptop for ages and I'm thinking about buying one. My dad's computer is losing the will to live so we're thinking about getting rid of it and using my computer for University work and his work and I'm thinking about buying myself a laptop for all my internet type things. It's got nothing to do with the fact I want to stay in bed and browse the internet!
I don't really know where to start looking though. I've seen a few deals on at the moment for students at PC World and places like that and I've started browsing Dell because my dad said they are quite good. I was just wondering if any other people with laptops had any advice or tips.
Also, am wondering how an internet connection would work with it wireless or otherwise?
The Dell outlet does some good bargains, but if you want it just for websurfing and office work, most high street laptops around the £600-700 mark will do.
There's no point in having a laptop hard wired to your internet connection.you want wireless! Fortunately, most laptops are wireless enabled, so all you would need is a wireless access point.
PM me with any laptops you find and I'll have a look at the spec.

I'm alright with the specs. I just wondered if laptop owners had any advice on what was the best to go for. It'd be mainly for internet based activities. Graphics, DVD's, MSN, E-mail and things like that with the odd bit of Microsoft Word essay thrown in. It'd need quite a bit of memory too. I'm thinking about 40GB and I'm looking at a decent Dell that's in an offer at the moment.
I want wireless internet but I want to stay on the same provider the other two computers in my house are on. I think that's possible!

I (well, my dad) bought a laptop from Dell the other week. Dell are really good when you order them online because you can customize it to the specifications you want; how much memory etc... It does end up being quite expensive though in the end; ours was £719!
try evesham computers, you are given a spec and then you can customise things like memory, processor etc
I've got a laptop - 40gb hard drive and 448mb ram - I've got it connected to my broadband connection wirelessly (thanks to Norms help!! ) and I find this suitable for my needs. The only downside to having a laptop, is that I am on here even more than I used to be because its so much easier!!! :rotfl:

40 gig isn't that much these days tbh. Try 60 gig and make sure it has 512mb ram. Windows XP will chewup 256mb straight away.
Key things I look for are screen size, hard drive speed, connectivity and graphics card. Don't get a shared graphics - you'll regret it. Make sure the screen does more than 1024x768. My laptop goes up to 1400.
Post the link to he laptop you are thinking of buying.
Wireless has nothing to do with your ISP.
