Neighbours has released the first official storyline details and pictures for the show's return in January.

The long-running Aussie soap is currently on a two-week break after the recent cliffhanger that saw Sadie Rodwell, Sebastian Metcalfe and Max Ramsay left in peril on Power Road.

Neighbours returns to our screens on Monday, January 6, and the short teaser synopses for the first eight episodes of the year have now been released.

Neighbours is set to reveal the outcome of Max Ramsay's big cliffhanger, which took place in the 2024 finale episode.

The finale saw Max, Byron Stone and Sadie Rodwell caught in an attempted hit and run, with Sebastian Metcalfe presumed to be the target.

The trio were outside Grease Monkeys when a car sped towards Sebastian and Sadie. Max heroically tried to save Sadie but they were both knocked over alongside Sebastian.

In scenes that will air on January 6, viewers will see the aftermath of the attack. Byron and Sadie are grateful for Max's quick thinking as he pushed her out of harm's way.

Despite asking him to leave previously, they invite Max to return to the share house and he happily accepts.

Privately, Max worries that he may have been the real target of the attack, due to the trouble he was in before he moved to Erinsborough. While still in hospital for observation, he sneaks out to see the injured driver, however he doesn't recognise him.

Elsewhere, Krista Sinclair is devastated to hear her friend has been injured in the car attack. She receives confirmation that the driver was found with Sebastian's photograph on his phone.

She also discovers that Sebastian had returned the money she'd given him to pay off the loan sharks. Krista is filled with guilt after forcing him to choose between their friendship or the money.

Later, Krista visits Sebastian and makes an emotional apology. She feels upset that she didn't take the danger he was in seriously. Leo Tanaka also apologises, feeling responsible for revealing Sebastian's whereabouts to his enemies.

Neighbours lines up another change for the share house

Neighbours has lined up another change for the shared house, with one resident considering moving altogether.

In scenes set to air on January 8, Vera cheerfully announces that she is currently interviewing for a housemate in a bungalow at the back of another shared house, with the character reasoning that she wanted to live with somebody closer to her own age.

Despite her words, Sadie, Max and Byron all have a shared sense of guilt as they acknowledge that their hurtful words - in which they remarked that they didn?t consider her a close friend - on Christmas Eve has likely contributed to Vera?s decision.

Vera?s plan doesn?t work out, however, as she is informed that she hasn?t secured the house. Sadie attempts to lift her spirits by giving her a makeover, whilst Max and Byron make a batch of brownies in the hope of sealing the deal.

Once again, Vera is unsuccessful, with the sorrowful trio begging her to stay as they seek to make amends. She?s resolute in her desire to move, however, as she states her commitment to finding new people whilst acknowledging it may take longer than originally planned.

Whilst the drama in the shared house continues, there is also set to be some tension in the lives of Rhett Norman and Aaron Brennan, who had briefly explored a romantic connection despite Aaron?s struggle following the death of his husband, David Tanaka.

A recent trailer for 2025?s scenes showed that the pair could explore their bond, with Liam Maguire - who joined the soap as Rhett earlier this year - explaining how their relationship could progress.

?I think there is probably more that they need to know about each other, to figure out if that stuff is going to work,? he said. ?I think they do have chemistry. There's more facets to Rhett and I think he probably hasn't experienced very much of Aaron either.?
