Emmerdale is gearing up to air a high-pressure episode focusing on one character away from the village.
Set to premiere next year, a special episode of the ITV soap will follow Jacob Gallagher as he starts his job placement in a busy hospital A&E department.
In the hour-long special, Jacob will have to face the reality of working in a stressful medical environment that may take a toll on him. Meanwhile, Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper teased that the medical student will cross paths with some of the villagers at the hospital.
"When Jacob first embarked on his aspirations of having a medical degree we knew at some point we wanted to show a day in his life," Roper said.
"In this episode, we step away from our usual environs of the village and head to the hospital. This episode takes place entirely on our purpose-built hospital set."
The producer added: "Accident and Emergency is a place many of our characters end up in, but seldom by choice. As the episode unfolds, Jacob will encounter some challenging situations that also affect some of our Emmerdale villagers, pushing Jacob to his limits both professionally and personally."
Jacob actor Joe Warren Plant shared that he was a bit hesitant and honoured when he first heard about the storyline and was determined to next year portray it as accurately as he could.
"When I met with our producer Sophie, she told me about this hourlong episode dedicated to Jacob's first day of placement in A&E. I was hit with all these emotions," he said.
"Knowing how many people have this high-pressure job for real gave me the pressure to really knuckle down and get it right.
"Tackling this storyline scared me at first, but I feel honoured to know they trusted me enough to tell it. That means such a lot and I feel very honoured."

Emmerdale is reportedly planning a huge stunt for 2025, one which will see multiple characters fighting for their lives.
The Sun claims that the ITV soap has been filming scenes last week at a lake, which the crew made look frozen through the use of candle wax.
Three characters will be in major peril as a car goes careening into the lake, and while all three characters haven't been named, one of them is Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).
Interestingly, the same publication stated back in October that Shahidi would be leaving Emmerdale after 16 years. Could this be her exit plot?
The storyline hasn't been officially announced yet, but Digital Spy has reached out to ITV for further comment.
Looking at a more imminent storyline, the soap is bringing back a villain from the past this week, seeking a little bit of Christmas Day revenge against Kim Tate.
While Kim has a list of enemies as long as her arm, today's episode is already available on ITVX, and saw Will Taylor share his theory that it's Kim's son Jamie.
"Shall we just drop the cloak and dagger malarkey? I know damn well who the boss is. It's Jamie Tate," Will told his co-planner Peter.
"It doesn't take a lot of thinking about, does it? There's only one other person who wants to bring Kim down as much as I do. That bitter and twisted son of hers."
Is Will's naming of Jamie essentially confirmation that the mystery villain won't be him, or are we being tricked into thinking that it won't be?

Emmerdale has released further details of the soap's big new storyline focusing on the disappearance of April Windsor.
The ITV soap's Christmas Day episode featured a nasty surprise for Marlon Dingle as he discovered that his teenage daughter had gone missing.
April ran away from home following a difficult few weeks, which had left her feeling alienated from her family.
At the start of the month, April was kidnapped by Ross Barton's enemy Jade. Ross later told April the full devastating story behind the death of her mum Donna in 2014.
Struggling to process the revelations, April started to rebel against her family and Marlon inadvertently made matters worse by encouraging Ross to cut all contact with her.
Emmerdale has now confirmed that future episodes will see Marlon uncover the various reasons why his troubled daughter chose to go missing.
As new revelations come to light, Marlon realises that April was leading a life that he was completely unaware of.
Marlon and his wife Rhona Goskirk receive plenty of support from the villagers, as the community clings to the hope that April will be found alive.
Tragically, as the story progresses, Marlon and Rhona start to face the very real possibility that they may never see April again.
Emmerdale has been working on this storyline with help from the Missing People charity.
Show producer Laura Shaw commented: "Marlon has recently been struggling with his relationship with April but never imagined he would be in such a heartbreaking situation this Christmas.
"In the coming weeks, as the search for April intensifies, we explore the emotional turmoil a family faces when a young person goes missing. We are so grateful to the charity Missing People for their invaluable help and support with this storyline."
Kate Graham, Head of Communications at Missing People, added: "It has been an amazing experience to work with Emmerdale on this important storyline. The researchers were clear from the start that they wanted to ground the storyline in reality and in no way glamorise it.
"Everyone at Emmerdale, including the actors, have impressed us with their understanding of a very difficult subject matter, meeting with our team of experts, asking very relevant questions and really immersing themselves in the experience of both being missing and homeless, and also being the parents of a missing teenager.
"We hope that as viewers watch this story unfold, they are able to gain some understanding of what families with a missing loved one go through and why our charity exists to support those families, as well as anyone thinking of being missing, or anyone already away from home."

Emmerdale has officially confirmed its 2025 disaster plots.
This New Year's Eve (December 31), the soap will feature five jaw-dropping flashforward scenes that will give viewers a flavour of what's to come in 2025.
"The flash-forwards will tease several storylines that will reveal a sneak peek of what's to come across 2025," the show's producer Laura Shaw said.
"As our villagers toast the New Year, a glimpse into each of their futures will be revealed. As the fate of those depicted hangs in the balance, the only thing for certain is it's going to be an explosive year in Emmerdale."
The cryptic scenes will feature several characters whose storylines are currently front and centre of the village.
They include Ruby Fox-Miligan, her husband Caleb Miligan, their daughter Steph Miligan, and Ruby's father Anthony Fox.
In the wake of April Windsor's disappearance, Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk will also feature in the episodes, as well as Kim Tate, Joe Tate and Dawn Fletcher.
The upcoming scenes will see Ruby try to make a fresh start with her daughter Steph, but she struggles to live a normal life alongside her abusive father Anthony.
Anthony knows that Ruby slept with Cain while Moira was undergoing brain surgery in November, adding an extra layer of tension to the story.
Ruby reveals to Chas that Caleb may not be Steph's biological father, before making a big decision to gain control of the situation. However, her secrets won't stay quiet for long, and as a result, her whole life begins to implode.
Elsewhere, Marlon, Rhona and April's family and friends will be devastated to begin the New Year not knowing where she is. Marlon continues to blame himself for his daughter's disappearance.
When a secret is revealed, Marlon and Rhona find it difficult to pull together to support each other at a time when they need each other more than ever.
Meanwhile, Dawn is grieving her father Will ? who died in the soap's Boxing Day (December 26) episode after having a heart attack.
After an eye-opening conversation with her husband Billy, Dawn is suspicious of Joe's sudden arrival, but soon makes a discovery that turns her suspicions towards her step-mother Kim. Is grief clouding Dawn's judgement, or is she onto something?
It's not long before Dawn takes matters into her own hands, making a series of decisions that could ruin her life.
The winter nights are long, dark and cold, but a fun night out quickly ends in a devastating disaster that will change life in the village forever.

How lovely that the pedophile gets to give the New Year's toast.
I bet you're right. Caleb goes to save them, but I do believe that they'll bring him back after he codes.
If Emmerdale goes the way soaps normally do, he'll learn about Ruby and Cain before the accident and then after he's revived, he will not remember it.

On another note, I could understand Caleb putting up with Ruby's discomfort because he also wants the relationship with Steph, but how can Steph not see how deeply upset her mother is whenever Anthony is around.
It makes me wonder whether he began to also rape Steph when she was home from boarding school until she 'aged out' and now he's on to fresh younger girls. Yet she is brainwashed to not realize that it's not normal.

My mother is a firm believer in hot and sour soup for stuffy noses. She always says if it doesn't cure you, it will kill you.
Feel better soon.

Thank you very much. Two bowls of soup and my sinuses are a little bit better already, your mother is a wise woman :)

Emmerdale has a chilling story ahead for the Dales residents, as multiple lives will be hanging in the balance in a terrifying accident.
Anticipated by a flashforward, a stunt-based storyline airing in February will involve a car crash and a frozen lake.
In the preview, a hand can be seen through the icy lake, desperately grasping for survival. But whose hand is it? And will they be rescued?
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw remained tight-lipped about the storyline, which was filmed over night shoots in the lead up to Christmas.
"With winter nights having drawn in, our audience are enjoying cosy nights indoors whilst our fantastic team at Emmerdale have been recording gripping drama to bring to their screens," Shaw said in a statement, promising a thrilling, multi-episode story.
"The stunning backdrop of the village, from its rugged woodland to its wilder landscapes, set the perfect stage for what's to come.
"I'm thrilled for our audience to experience these episodes as they unfold, taking them on a chilling?quite literally?and perilous journey across the frozen ice."
The soap has just begun a storyline involving Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate.
Following Dawn's dad Will's death, she's having a hard time coping and was convinced Kim was somehow responsible for his heart attack.
In recent scenes, Dawn drugged Kim to get her to talk but regretted her decision when she had a seizure and to be rushed to the hospital. Luckily, Kim made a full recovery but Dawn's plan didn't sit well with her husband Billy, who worried his wife had turned to drugs once again.
The pair have been going through a hard patch as of late, which may have contributed to Dawn kissing Joe as he was comforting her.

It looks like Emmerdale will be reducing its hour episode to 30 min next year. How disappointing.

Interesting theory about Dylan possibly being Eli Dingle's son, and April's cousin.
