The Sun newspaper has apologised to former EastEnders actor Chris Parker for printing allegations that he was sacked from the programme.
"We said that Chris had been sacked when in fact he had left voluntarily," stated the newspaper.

It said sorry for the "embarrassment and distress caused".

The 22-year-old actor, who played Spencer Moon in the soap and was last seen on screen in January, was wished well for the future by the BBC.

The Sun added in Thursday's edition it was "happy now to correct the position".

Their story, published in December, also speculated on circumstances surrounding the actor's private life.

The BBC refused to comment on the details at the time.

Parker joined the soap opera in 2002 with actor Shane Richie, and the pair became popular with viewers.

The character of Spencer Moon is said to have been staying with his cousin Maxwell since his departure earlier this year.

Well, I for one am glad that they have accepted that they were wrong - I wasn't overly keen on Spencer or Chris Parker, but no-one deserves the treatment that he received.

Exactly - this is one reason why I don't get papers or anything anymore. If they want to cause harm to someones career, they print what they like, do the damage and the wait 6 months before apologising - its too late by then, the damage has been done!!

I havent brought a newspaper in 10 years as I got so fed up with all the he said she said stories.they say what they want just to sell papers.Exactly. Although I didn't like Chris Parker, he's only young and didn't deserve to be subjected to what he did. I saw a documentary on how they get the photos for the papers aswell, and its so intrusive, its ridiculous.
