Zoe’s been attacked with a knife and is hysterical. Both Flynn and Peter race down to the Boat Wharf to find a scene of complete pandemonium. Zoe is alive but her arm is bleeding from from where she defended herself against a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava. Over at the Diner, Colleen’s mirroring the thoughts of most of the town with a hysterical rant about what the Stalker has done this time. Sally has to calm her down. Meanwhile, Hayley does her best to get out of her dinner with Lisa and Scott. She’s totally uncomfortable with the whole situation. She heads over to the Diner and off-loads to Sally the shocking news that Lisa appears to be married with kids. Sally doesn’t think Hayley should say anything until she’s sure, but Hayley is determined to warn Scott. Lisa has sensed that maybe Hayley left early because she doesn’t like her. But Scott reassures her that Hayley loves her as much as everyone else…if not more. Over at the police station, Zoe has come in (post-bandaging) adamant that the attacker was Marc. Not only did he threaten her at Josie’s house, he’s now carried through with his threat. Peter’s not so sure, but when he goes around to Marc’s house to question him, he’s done a runner! It sets off a furious manhunt. Josie’s furious when she finds out what’s happened. She thinks Peter’s let Marc slip through his fingers again. Jesse is worried about Josie’s state of mind. Later that night he makes a surprise visit to her apartment and says he’ll sleep on her couch as safety. Josie’s hoping it will turn into something more. Hayley confronts Lisa about her husband Alan. Lisa has to come clean. But her story is surprisingly convincing. She says they’ve been separated for a year but Alan won’t take the hint. He’s even abused her in the past. Hayley believes her and feels like a complete idiot. But when Lisa takes a phone call from Alan later on, it’s obvious that not only does she have kids, she is still with Alan! She played Hayley for a fool and is lying to Scott! Just as Peter seems to be running out of motives for Marc to be the Stalker, a call comes through with information that shows Marc and Sarah Lewis went to the same uni together, and in the same year! It’s a start. Suddenly the call comes through that Marc’s car has been found. The police race out to find Marc having a surf at the beach– totally startled to see them. When they search his car, they find a bag in the boot which contains a balaclava, a black outfit, a tick tock card and the red day-pack. Marc protests his innocence but Peter pulls out the cuffs and arrests him. Has Peter caught the Summer Bay Stalker?
Tues 30th Aug 2005
Marc is furious about being taken in for questioning, but Peter thinks he’s got his man. Marc has alibis for everything and they all check out. He doesn’t know Sarah Lewis and claims that Josie is setting him up. He’s never seen the gear that was found in his trunk and thinks it was planted. Marc shuts down and refuses to say anything without a solicitor. Josie comes to the police station at the behest of Peter, and Marc sees her and threatens to let out the 1989 secret. She realises she’s in big trouble. Dan’s son Ryan is coming from the US today and Dan and Leah are both nervous about the meeting (and telling him they’re getting married). After some advice from Beth, Leah buys a brand new boogie board to try to win Ryan over. Dan heads off to pick him up. The kids are doing beach skills today and it looks like there’s going to be trouble between Henry and Ric, which leaves Beth a little worried. Hyde and Sally have to take over when the PE teacher calls in sick. Ric and Henry are at each other’s throats, and the situation is made worse when Hyde puts them into the same team together. They work against each other and finally Hyde punishes them with running and push ups. As Ric and Henry are running together they see a swimmer in trouble and race out and save him – illustrating an ability to work together. Hyde says that they can save themselves from failing if they work together on one last exercise and finish it in time. They are successful and both of them pass. While they’re still not the best of friends, it’s clear the ice is beginning to thaw. Peter asks Marc about the ‘secret’ he’s holding about Josie, but Marc prevaricates until finally the evidence mounts against him and he realises the last thing he’ll have is to tell Peter everything – even if it means revealing his own nasty secret. He allows Peter to go search his house for a file that contains everything. Only problem is that Josie has already broken in to remove the evidence. But just after she finds the file and is about to leave, she hears someone approaching the house. Thinking it’s the police, she rushes into hiding as the intruder moves around the house. Josie holds her breath – will she be sprung?

It looks like Josie will be discovered by the intruder as she hides in Marc’s house, but at the last minute, the intruder leaves. As Josie makes her own getaway, she sees the police car pull up. She can’t stop wondering if the intruder was the Stalker… Leah finally meets Ryan when Dan brings him back from the airport. The meeting is awkward at first, but the new boogie board smooths things over. Ryan is left reeling after the revelation that Dan and Leah are getting married. It’s obvious he still harboured hopes of Dan getting back with Amanda. Dan tells Leah not to worry, it will take a while for Ryan to get used to. Josie is about to destroy the 1989 file when she’s interrupted by Zoe and Kim who insist on celebrating the news about Marc with her. The destruction will have to wait. The police turn over Marc’s place in a search for the 1989 file (which Josie has taken), but instead they find something more sinister in some drawers…a blood-stained knife! It’s enough for Peter to charge Marc with the attack on Zoe. But a stunned Marc is still blaming Josie for setting him up. If he had left the file at his house, he would hardly have been stupid enough to leave the knife there! Peter tells everyone that Marc has been charged, and there’s relief all around. He tries to question Josie more about the 1989 file but she is quick to cover. The news that the knife was found in a drawers is troubling to her though, because she looked in those drawers minutes before the intruder and there was nothing there. She decides to talk to Morag about it. She thinks Marc might be being framed. But the fact is if she says anything to Peter, she will incriminate herself. Morag tells her to forget it. There are a lot of explanations for why the knife was there. The madman is behind bars. Be happy. More evidence comes in that Marc had a previous charge of dealing in false license plates. Peter is sure. And Josie is slowly becoming surer… Dan makes an excuse to get Ryan away to the beach for some alone-time. He tells Ryan that he will always be in his life, but he also loves Leah and he wants him to give her a chance. Ryan agrees, but we can see he’s a long way from accepting Leah. Dan takes Ryan to the Diner to introduce around. Peter turns up and quickly falls into an easy familiarity with Ryan. Dan is obviously taken aback by the strength and ease of the relationship between the two. Leah reminds him that that’s what this trip is about – to establish a bond. But later Leah is not so sure about Ryan when he deliberately spills a drink over her and she has to cover for him to Dan. And then later on at home, when Leah tries to speak to Ryan, he goes off! Says he’ll do anything to stop her marrying Dan! Peter asks Marc for a final time to tell him his motive for terrorising Summer Bay. Marc refuses – he’s innocent. As for Josie’s 1989 secret. She’s beaten him. He won’t reveal it. Over at Josie’s house she’s setting fire to the file, destroying forever the secret that allowed Marc to cause her so much heartache.
