Former Coronation Street star Chris Quinten has been charged with the rape of a woman in her 20s.
The actor, 48, who played mechanic Brian Tilsley in the ITV series, will appear at Horseferry Road Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, said police.
The alleged incident took place in a central London nightclub on 25 June.
Mr Quinten, who was in Coronation Street from 1978 to 1989, was first investigated in June and released on bail pending further inquiries.
He was questioned by officers from Scotland Yard's Operation Sapphire, which deals with serious sexual offences.
The actor's further screen credits included film roles in International Velvet (1978) and Robocop 2 (1990), in which he played a reporter.
