The last episode of the current run of Where the Heart Is airs on August 28, and there's a familiar face among the cast.
Jason Merrells joins the regulars as the husband of a woman desperate to have children, but whose illness is a stumbling block in the adoption process.
His on-screen wife Cathy is played by Lisa Hammond, who recently featured in an episode of Holby City.
It's not the first brush with all things medical Merrells has had in his TV career. In 1994 he began a three-year sting in long-running BBC series Casualty, as hunky receptionist Matt Hawley.
His alter ego was the caring face of the A&E department of Holby City Hospital, but it was his on-off romance with nurse Jude (Lisa Coleman) that had viewers on the edge of their seats.
When the latter was stabbed in a brutal attack which left her fighting for life, he flew all the way from Crete to be by her bedside.
Merrells has been busy since quitting the show in 1997. He went on to feature in controversial drama Queer As Folk, before landing another popular role in the drama Clocking Off.
He followed it up with the part of Gavin Ferraday in the hit series Cutting It, in which he starred opposite Sarah Parish.
The actor can next be seen in forthcoming romantic drama The Jealous God, alongside former Coronation Street star Denise Welch.
