Simon Cowell has declared that the upcoming second series of The X Factor will be his last, The Sun reports today.

Although the music mogul anticipates that the show - produced by his own TV company, Syco - will continue to a third installment in 2006, he intends to to step down from the judging panel.

Asked if there would be a third series, Cowell replied: "Probably yes, but not with me on it."

Fellow judge Sharon Osbourne is apparently following suit, taking two years off from next year.

Cowell has previously hinted that he is considering quitting TV altogether over fears that the public are tiring of him.

If he aint going to be a judge, then they might as well not bother doing any more. It would be rubbish without him. I mean come on, Louis or whatever his name is, is never going to be even a gram as good and funny as Simon

I think its coming to the end of its life span and without Simon, it should do. It won't be the same and lets think - who are Will Young, Gareth Gates and other previous winners - with music tastes changing all of the time, it makes it difficult for the winner to stay on top and must be pretty soul destroying for the winner to sell less than the second placed (Steve B and G4) IMO

The only people that have done any good from a reality music show are Girls Aloud, and Liberty X i guess. Looking at how many there have been, 2 isn't that good

And Girls Aloud only release covers and Liberty X was the losers - I would only class Liberty X as the good ones out of all of them and they're the only ones not to be managed by any of the X Factor bods (Nathan Moore managed them, don't know if he still does though)

If he's quitting then they should get Nigel Lythgoe to do it, the one that did the original Popstars. He's the original Mr Nasty.

I liked Nigel. They should sack Lewis, and replace him with Nigel, then watch the fireworks between him and Simon comense
