Paula Lane is swapping the cobbles for the Dales as she takes on the role of Ella Forster a caring and compassionate character who is set to fall on difficult times.
Ella will meet Mandy Dingle at a Veterinary Ball she is attending with partner Paddy Kirk and will end up losing her job after sticking up for the salon owner.
Not willing to let herself be down for too long, Ella soon finds herself in a chance encounter with Manpreet who offers her an opportunity.

Emmerdale has revealed a first look at former Coronation Street star Paula Lane's debut scenes in the show.
Paula has landed the role of Ella Forster, a compassionate and caring newcomer who'll arrive in the village next week.
In upcoming scenes, Ella crosses paths with Paddy Kirk and Mandy Dingle when the couple attend a vets' social event together. Mandy is excited for the occasion and gets dressed in an extravagant outfit, but her fashion choice is mocked by fellow guest Jules, a loud-mouthed managing director.
Mandy expects back-up from Paddy but is furious when he panders to Jules instead ? even refusing to introduce her to Jules as his girlfriend. Paddy explains himself by admitting that he feels insecure around Jules. Mandy is still hurt, but she agrees to respect his wishes.
Ella makes an appearance when she's revealed to be Jules' personal assistant. Mandy ends up consoling Ella when she sees how badly Jules treats her.
Jules finally pushes his luck too far when he makes more rude comments about Mandy. Ella boldly sticks up for Mandy by pouring a drink over Jules.
The next day, Ella and Mandy catch up at The Hide and Manpreet Sharma overhears their conversation.
Impressed by Ella, impulsive Manpreet decides to offer her a potential job opportunity as a receptionist at the new doctors surgery.
Paula, who previously played Corrie's Kylie Platt, recently commented: "I'm so excited to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I can't wait to start a new chapter playing the role of Ella.
"I've already heard there are big plans for her and I can't wait to see her navigate a new life in the village and hopefully make some friends!?
Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks added: "Ella is a complex and multi-layered character who comes to the village and certainly makes an impact. Ostensibly she's a good, moral character, but is there more to her than meets the eye? We are absolutely thrilled to welcome an actor of Paula's calibre to the show and we can't wait to have her light up our screens."
Paula Lane was on today's This Morning and has said that she is quite a pleasant character.... but she is not one to be messed with!!! So what will be her secret???

Ella does have a past that is going to be revealed," the soap star said. "She does have responsibilities elsewhere outside the village that mean a great deal to her and I'm so looking forward to exploring this further. "
Lane suggested there's a part to Ella viewers are yet to discover and will see her fighting to protect what really matters to her: "When something or someone so important to her is put at risk she will fight so hard to protect that situation. This is a part of her we've yet to see and there is currently a lot at stake and a lot to fight for."

I hope that Tom is going to be banished from Emmerdale rather than being killed off but I sure do not want him to show real remorse and is then forgiven by the Dingles

I watch another soap where all new characters are introduced as over-the-top crazy and then are dialed back with 'redemption' stories. So I guess hiring someone without a sound plan for the character and then shaping them as you go along is a thing. I really miss the days of strong character-based stories.
And like the poster above, I sure don't hope that future stories try to make us understand and sympathize with Tom's background so that we can accept him when he begins to do some nice things around town. He's a monster. He can and should get mental health therapy, but I cannot imagine ever accepting and liking him. However, just killing him off for a quick story of Belle in prison with the officers not believing the self-defense angle, would be way more annoying to me.
