https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a45898435/emmerdale-spoilers-major-tragedy-january-2024/
Emmerdale has shared the first teasers of a huge January 2024 storyline, which has been tipped to change lives in the village forever.
Show producer Laura Shaw (pictured below) shared the news with Digital Spy and other media at an Emmerdale press event this week, warning that tragedy will strike in the New Year.
Details of the characters involved are currently being kept under wraps, but the high-stakes plot will see some popular villagers take centre stage.
Shaw told us: "There's going to be tragedy in the village in January that's going to affect two of our most-loved families.
"It's ultimately going to tear friendships apart and change the dynamics of one of those families forever."
While fans will have to stay tuned to find out more, talk of a "tragedy" is bound to spark speculation about whether another Emmerdale death is on the cards.
2023 has seen Rishi Sharma lose his life on the day of his son Jai's wedding to Laurel Thomas, while Charles Anderson was rocked by the sudden death of his dad Victor weeks later.
Elsewhere, stalker Lloyd Sawyer passed away from injuries sustained when Dan Spencer punched him, evil Craig Reed was left to die after a violent incident involving Kim Tate's horse, and Lucy Malcoms tragically died in childbirth.
Meanwhile, Chloe Harris, Mackenzie Boyd and Charity Dingle all narrowly escaped death when they were involved in the Super Soap Week car crash.
Mack chose to save Charity when faced with a tough decision between the two women in his life. Chloe miraculously pulled through despite falling from a cliff while trapped inside the vehicle.

Emmerdale has announced plans for Belle Dingle and Tom King to have a major Valentine's Day storyline.
The couple will set a date of February 14 for their wedding after a surprise proposal in the coming weeks.
News of Belle and Tom growing closer is sure to concern Emmerdale fans, after an upsetting flashback saw their relationship take a dark turn last month.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at an Emmerdale press event this week, show producer Laura Shaw explained: "Belle and Tom are going to move on in their relationship.
"I think we've already hinted a little bit that there may be more going on in their relationship, but what we will see is them building their relationship.
"Wedding bells come in on Valentine's Day, of course, because we're a soap so we have to do weddings on Valentine's Day.
"But is it going to be their happy ever after? We'll have to see."
Last month's flashback saw Tom become irrational and angry when Belle rejected his marriage proposal.
The scenes culminated in Tom shockingly pushing Belle to the ground, which left her bleeding as she hit her head.
When Tom apologised, Belle chose not to tell her family what had happened between them.
The couple agreed to move on and forget the nasty incident, although Emmerdale viewers have speculated that the scenes marked the beginning of an important issue-based storyline.
the tragedy might not be death
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a45918851/emmerdale-mystery-character-return-january-2024/
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has confirmed that a mystery character will be returning to the soap in the new year.
The boss spoke to Digital Spy and other media at a press event for the ITV soap, teasing that a familiar face will make their way back to the Dales in January.
?We?ve got a familiar face returning in the new year,? Shaw teased.
"This person comes back to help one of our villagers who?s in a little bit of trouble. We?ll leave you to guess who the familiar face might be coming back in January..."
There are some theories floating around about exactly who the returning star could be, with both Michelle Hardwick and Laura Norton due to reprise their roles as Vanessa Woodfield and Kerry Wyatt respectively after going on maternity leave.
But while we'll have to wait and see who's coming back, Shaw teased plenty more action in the Dales in the upcoming weeks.
As we know, Chas Dingle is set to be at the heart of the drama over the festive season and into 2024.
?There?s a huge story coming up for Chas in the new year that?s going to be shocking for all her family and friends and villagers around her,? teased the producer, who joined the soap in 2018.
?We know that her and Aaron have got quite a strained relationship at the moment and he's really pushing his mum away. This could be the story that maybe brings those two back together and bonds mother and son again.
"That?s all for us to find out in the new year.?

Emmerdale has now confirmed that Angelica is the one who has been deceiving everyone over the past few days.
An official synopsis released by Emmerdale reads: "In the graveyard, Angel's overwhelmed with guilt. Will she finally confess that she was driving the car the day Heath died?"
It's also sure to have repercussions for Nicola and Jimmy King, who currently believe in Angelica's innocence. Will Angelica confess to her parents?

Emmerdale has kicked off 2024 with some big changes to the village ? from the arrival of Ruby Fox-Miligan and Ella Forster, to the tragic death of Heath Hope.
So, what's next? Well, recent press announcements and producer interviews have already provided various spoilers and tidbits teasing what to expect across the next few months.
As you'd expect, many of these storylines have already been announced right here on Digital Spy, but just in case you're losing track, here's a handy recap with the key details all in one place.
What is Ella hiding?
Emmerdale bosses recently introduced Ella Forster, played by former Coronation Street star Paula Lane.
The compassionate and caring character found herself out of a job when she stood up for Mandy Dingle at a veterinary ball.
Fortunately, a chance encounter with Manpreet Sharma opened up a new opportunity for Ella and this saw her become a permanent fixture in the village as she started work at the doctors surgery.
Ella has also caught the eye of local doctor Liam Cavanagh and their connection will be further explored in the coming weeks.
While Ella hasn't shown any signs of a dark secret or hidden agenda so far, the initial press release for her arrival suggested that this could ultimately become the case.
Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks said last year: "Ella is a complex and multi-layered character who comes to the village and certainly makes an impact. Ostensibly she's a good, moral character, but is there more to her than meets the eye?
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome an actor of Paula's calibre to the show and we can't wait to have her light up our screens."
Long-term consequences for the King family
Emmerdale teenager Angelica King is sentenced to eight months at a Secure Children's Home next month as a punishment for her role in Heath's death.
Although this is on the shorter end of potential sentences, Angelica's loved ones struggle as she's sent away to Bristol, which limits their opportunities to visit her.
Nicola Wheeler, who plays Angelica's mum Nicola King, recently spoke about how Angelica's sentencing will affect the family in the longer-term.
She said: "At first it feels like a lifetime. But as the story goes on, [Nicola and Jimmy] realise that they're being ridiculous because it is only eight months. But when you're not there for your daughter, and you can't go and visit every day, it's hell on earth isn't it?
"I don't think they'll cope well, but they do have Carl and Elliot to consider ? they do have two other children. Initially Nicola starts to lash out because she can't cope but Jimmy gives her a stern talking-to and says: 'This is what it is. We have to deal with it'.
"It's also a relief when Bob holds out an olive branch ? and that sense of relief sets them on a different path."
On the inevitable drama when Angelica is released in a few months' time, Nicola added: "Looking to the future, I would just say: 'What is to come?' Because what is Angel going to be like when she leaves the place? That is the big question, isn't it? For eight months of her life, Nicola and Jimmy don't have any control or influence over her at all.
"I think that's quite crushing for any parent who has been in this situation. It's the fact that they are literally handing their child over."
Rhona's story continues
Rhona faces more drama as 2024 continues, as she's determined to keep up the fight for baby Ivy.
The village vet recently discovered that her ex-husband Gus was trying to trick her when he proposed a deal to get them both out of trouble with the police. He planned to do a runner with Ivy once Rhona had followed his wishes.
Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, recently admitted that she still hasn't been told exactly how this story will pan out in the long-term.
Appearing on ITV's This Morning, she said: "I actually don't know. We know a little in advance, but not too much."
Amit targets Eric
Eric Pollard becomes embroiled in Amit Sharma's sinister storyline this spring, as the new villain lines him up as a new target.
Amit becomes intrigued by Eric when he learns that the former B&B boss is one of the richest residents of the village.
He approaches Eric with a deal that seems too good to be true ? will Eric be fooled?
Aaron, Cain and Caleb receive their test results
Aaron Dingle, Cain Dingle and Caleb Miligan are due to receive some significant test results in the coming weeks.
All three characters have agreed to undergo gene testing to see if they have the faulty BRCA2 gene, which can be passed down among family members. Chas recently discovered that her breast cancer was caused by the faulty gene and she encouraged her son Aaron and brothers Cain and Caleb to get tested.
BRCA1 and BRCA2 are examples of genes which can raise a person's cancer risk if they become altered, increasing the chance of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer.
The Aaron, Cain and Caleb scenes form just one part of Chas' ongoing storyline, which will continue in the coming months.
Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks recently explained: "When this story was first pitched, we were acutely aware how important it was to explore this. With Chas's family history of breast cancer and Chas being such a strong character, and in many ways the bedrock of the Dingles, we wanted to show the impact on not just her, but her immediate family.
"With Lucy Pargeter's innate ability to showcase Chas's vulnerabilities beneath her hardened exterior, we knew she was absolutely the right character to play this with."
Tom's abuse of Belle gets worse
Emmerdale recently announced the long-term plan for Tom and Belle King's domestic abuse storyline following recent concerning scenes involving the newlyweds.
In upcoming scenes, the plot continues to explore coercive control, physical abuse and mental abuse.
Emmerdale is also planning to explore the growing issue of tech abuse, where controlling partners use trackers and hidden cameras as part of their sinister methods.
Show producer Laura Shaw recently said: "Soaps are in the extraordinary position of being able to highlight what happens behind the public face of an abusive relationship, over a longer period of time.
"The audience knows these characters so well, sometimes as well as they might know their own friends and family and they care deeply about them. As harrowing as it can be to watch this type of storyline play out, it's imperative that we use our platform to shine a light on domestic abuse, and help give a voice to people who have so often been silenced."
Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle, also told TV Times: "Tom always has a reason for his behaviour. He'll do something horrific and instantly turn it on her. So then Belle's like, 'I'm so sorry, it's my fault.' She feels like she is a burden to him, and she has long suffered with mental health issues, so that is a way he can make her feel extra vulnerable."
"The charities we've worked with have said that tech control is massively on the rise."
Matty and Amy's wedding
Matty Barton and Amy Wyatt's wedding is now booked in for April 17, as revealed by the couple in a recent episode.
With Amy's mum Kerry back in the village and causing chaos, will there be trouble ahead of the big day?
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a60433656/emmerdale-spoilers-possible-accident-death/
Emmerdale has confirmed that another major accident will rock the village.
The life of one resident will hang in the balance this spring, marking the beginning of a big storyline for two families.
Show producer Laura Shaw (pictured below) announced the news to Digital Spy and other media at an Emmerdale press event this week, although the identities of those involved are being kept secret for now.
Shaw explained: "We're going to see an accident happen that's going to affect two big family groups.
"It's going to connect those two family groups together, and we're going to see somebody in very serious medical jeopardy."
She continued: "Whether they live or die, we will have to see.
"What I can tell you is that the ripples and repercussions from that accident will be very long-lasting and life-changing for a number of our villagers."
Emmerdale has already aired one tragic accident this year, as Heath Hope was killed off in a dramatic New Year car crash plot.
That storyline saw the Hope and King families take centre stage following the eventual revelation that Nicola and Jimmy's daughter Angelica was driving at the time of the crash.
Angelica recently took a break from screens, as she was sentenced to eight months in a Secure Children's Home.
With the new accident plot likely to focus on different families, Emmerdale fans will have to stay tuned for more details on who's involved and who will be in danger.
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a61483512/emmerdale-spoilers-dramatic-stunt-week-2024/
Emmerdale's new producer Sophie Roper has announced plans for some dramatic stunts later this year.
The ITV soap will be upping the ante with an action-packed week of episodes, which is already being filmed by cast and crew.
Roper shared the news at her first Emmerdale press conference since being appointed to the role of producer.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Roper explained: "We've got a lot of stunts coming up ? some we're actually filming this week.
"I'm not going to tell you too much, I'd get in trouble with the press team at my first press conference! But what I can tell you is there will be fire engines involved, so take from that what you will."
She added: "It's going to be a really explosive week of Emmerdale."
No further details have been revealed at this stage, although the scenes seem likely to feature Cain Dingle.
Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona Goskirk, recently told The Sun that her real-life husband Jeff Hordley has got "a massive stunt in two weeks involving fire and I think someone will get quite badly injured in that".
The show traditionally films scenes six to eight weeks in advance, which means the stunt scenes are likely to hit our screens in late August or early September.
So far, 2024 has been a quieter year for stunts on Emmerdale as many of the show's most dramatic events have taken place off-camera.
The New Year car crash which killed Heath Hope didn't take place on screen in January, with the show focusing on the emotional aftermath rather than the stunt itself.
A similar approach was taken with Nicky Miligan and Ethan Anderson's car crash in May, as well as Ruby Fox-Miligan vengefully knocking over Ethan in the soap's recent 10,000th episode.
Roper is co-producer of Emmerdale alongside Laura Shaw. She was promoted last month after Kate Brooks moved over to lead fellow ITV soap Coronation Street.
Speaking yesterday, Roper commented: "I've been at Emmerdale for eight years now. I'm a former story producer here, so I've lived and breathed the show for a fair old while now.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to produce and see that vision from the very start of [story] ideas, all the way through to what makes it to screen as well.
"We've got some brilliant storylines hitting at the moment. There's lots of drama in the Dales that you're watching on screen, which we're continuing to see as we go through the summer into the New Year ? very much keeping Emmerdale on top form."

Emmerdale has confirmed the details of Ella Forster's upcoming return, with Ella due to be caught up in a dramatic car crash as she arrives back in the village.
In new scenes to air on the soap, Manpreet Sharma urges a downbeat Liam to give things with his ex Chas Dingle another go, after he shares his fears that he'll be single forever.
The next day, Liam doesn't realise that a mysterious person is watching him...
Later, Mandy Dingle discovers an intruder and quickly realises that it's Ella. Clearly in distress, Ella explains that she's just come back to collect the rest of her belongings. As Ella heads off, Mandy is left unsure of what to do.

At least two Emmerdale favourites will be left fighting for their life in a dramatic barn fire this autumn.
Emmerdale are lining up a huge stunt for autumn and have revealed that feuding sisters-in-law Moira Dingle and Ruby Fox Milligan will be left fighting for their lives.
New producer Sophie Roper recently teased the big stunt and promised it would be explosive. ?As much as we?ve got the hard-hitting story there, we?ve got a lot of stunts coming up.?
?So we?re actually filming this week. I?m not going to tell you too much, but what i can tell you is there will be fire engines involved.?
?So take from that what you will. And it?s going to be a really explosive week of Emmerdale.?
Now filming pictures have revealed the dramatic fire as a host of other characters fight to save the women.
It is the first look at former Coronation Street star Oliver Farnworth joining the soap as the mysterious John Sugden.
An onlooker said: ?It looks very dramatic. You could see Oliver?s character, John rush into the fire and emerge from the smoke carrying a limp body.
?The soap is pushing the boat out with the big scenes but it looks like at least two huge characters are facing death. Moira and Ruby?s feud has taken a back seat to other huge drama these last few months but it looks like it could all ramp up again and potentially be devastating for both women and their families.?
?And with Emmerdale there?s always a twist so even more could be in true peril. There?s a real danger and any one of them could be about to meet their maker.?
Fire engines were on set for the huge stunt.
Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley, Chas Dingle star, Lucy Pargeter, Will Taylor actor, Dean Andrews and Caleb Milligan star William Ash were all pictured alongside Oliver filming the dramatic scenes.

Thanks, @Perdita, this sounds really exciting, with two of my favorite characters. I sometimes wonder whether Ruby gets away with as much as she does because of her incredible beauty, and if that is marred in any way, if she is badly burned and scarred, will they see her differently and will she see herself differently, making her rethink some of what she does?

Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has revealed the soap's Christmas 2024 storylines.
While speaking backstage at the National Television Awards on Wednesday (September 11), the executive producer teased that this could be one of the most "exciting" Christmases in the soap's history.
"This Christmas, there is a huge surprise arrival on Christmas Day," he said.
"As well as some life or death jeopardy on Christmas Day ? but obviously there will be festive brilliance as we do every year ? but I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year!"
MacLeod went on to confirm that filming on the festive episodes are set to begin soon, and teased that lots more "drama" is expected to continue into the new year.
"Christmas in soap is a difficult one as you want it to be dramatic and exciting but you also want it to have that humorous, warmth and festive soapy flavour and I think the balance is bang on here," he explained.
"But into 2025, what we have planned so far is the usual degree of spectacle and drama and heightened kind of filming stuff. We also have incredibly heartbreaking family drama with plenty of Dingle action.
"There is also some classic gothic antics at Home Farm ? some skullduggery! It is going to be a really exciting 2025 with lots more to come."
Emmerdale took home the Serial Drama prize at this year's NTAs, regaining its crown after being beaten by EastEnders last year. The ITV soap previously won the award every year between 2017 and 2020, and also in 2022.
Ahead of its festive episodes, Emmerdale fans have lots of drama to sink their teeth into. Earlier this week, the soap aired an explosive cliffhanger following a violent showdown in the barn between Moira Dingle and Ruby Fox-Miligan.
After the explosion, Moira had a seizure and underwent a scan at the hospital. She later received the sad news that doctors had discovered a mass on her brain.
Emmerdale has since confirmed a brain tumour storyline for Moira, with the character set to be diagnosed with a non-cancerous meningioma during tonight's (September 13) episode.

Emmerdale has confirmed it will conclude Belle Dingle and Tom King's coercive control storyline with a special episode.
Throughout this year, viewers have watched Belle desperately trying to escape from her cruel husband's emotional and physical abuse.
Belle has recently taken a break from the village to seek mental health treatment at the same time as more of the Emmerdale villagers suspect Tom may be lying about his innocence.
The soap has now confirmed that a one-hour episode airing this December will wrap up the storyline, following Belle's decision to report Tom to the police.
Shaw promised fans that Belle would get "some sort of closure" in this gripping hour since the "Emmerdale audience always look forward to our villains getting their comeuppance".
"We don't want to spoil the outcome of this story and reveal what will happen to Tom, but needless to say, Belle's going to be in a much better place by this Christmas," Shaw said.

Emmerdale has confirmed three big guest stars who will be involved in the conclusion of Tom and Belle King's abuse storyline.
The ITV soap recently confirmed that it will conclude their dark storyline with a special episode next month, following Belle's decision to report Tom to the police for emotional and physical abuse.
According to Metro, Loose Women panellist Denise Welch, Casualty's Charles Dale and Coronation Street's Jack Ellis will all guest star in the episode.
Welch is reportedly taking on the role of a jury member, while Ellis and Dale's characters are currently undisclosed.
This will add to Welch's already-long list of soap acting credits, with the star having previously had roles in Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Holby City.
Dale is known for his role as Big Mac on Casualty, while Ellis played Harry Mason on Corrie in 2007 and 2008.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw previously confirmed that the soap will break from its usual format in the special episode by sharing the real stories of domestic abuse victims and survivors.
"When we first embarked on this journey we knew we wanted to show domestic abuse, coercive control and manipulation in all its guises," she said.
"The privilege we have on a drama such as Emmerdale is being able to show the reality of a situation like Belle's over a longer period of time to authentically reflect what so many people go through in real life on a daily basis."
She also promised fans that Belle would get "some sort of closure" since the "Emmerdale audience always look forward to our villains getting their comeuppance".

Emmerdale hints at a possible Christmas wedding for Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard next week.
The ITV soap suggests that a festive ceremony could be on the cards as Eric aims to show Brenda how committed he is to their relationship.
The happy couple are spending time at The Woolpack together when Eric shares his plans for them to tie the knot at Christmas.
Brenda is shocked but impressed by Eric's idea, which comes completely out of the blue.
The following day, it's full steam ahead as Eric presents Brenda with an engagement ring.
He explains that he bought the piece of jewellery at an auction as Brenda seems delighted with his choice. But will Eric and Brenda really get their happily-ever-after?
Last week, it was revealed that Lesley Dunlop ? who plays Brenda ? is leaving Emmerdale after 16 years on the show.
Reports have suggested that the character of Brenda is being written out as part of efforts to slightly reduce cast numbers on the ITV soap.
So far, Emmerdale bosses haven't commented on the revelations as the show has an established policy of not discussing cast contracts.
The news creates some uncertainty over whether the wedding will go ahead or whether the couple are heading for trouble before the planned ceremony.
News of a possible wedding is among the first teasers we've had over December on Emmerdale this year.
Speaking to press at the National Television Awards in September, Emmerdale's executive producer Iain MacLeod commented: "This Christmas, there is a huge surprise arrival on Christmas Day.
"As well as some life or death jeopardy on Christmas Day ? but obviously there will be festive brilliance as we do every year ? but I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year."

"I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year."
I must have missed them all. How many Christmases have they had this year?

Emmerdale has episodes slotted in for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
As with last year, the Christmas Day episode only runs for 30 minutes rather than an hour-long special.

At the weekend, new spoilers revealed that Will is about to take Kim by surprise as he suggests they should renew their wedding vows on Christmas Day.
Kim is overjoyed, unaware that Will is still plotting against her alongside her financial advisor Peter and a mysterious third party.
Emmerdale bosses have also promised a happier Christmas for Belle Dingle following her traumatic year with evil Tom King.
Speaking at the National Television Awards earlier this year, executive producer Iain MacLeod commented: "This Christmas, there is a huge surprise arrival on Christmas Day. PIPER?????
"As well as some life or death jeopardy on Christmas Day ? but obviously there will be festive brilliance as we do every year ? but I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year!"
